Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

I'll check out corker see what's up there.
I saved the best pair of headlight buckets for this car, same with the grille, I picked up a used one that looked brand new for 500 when they were going for 1200ish, but that's before they had a repop, but at least the texture will be right.

On another part, I need a gas tank, have seen them from 89 bucks all the way up to 5 or 6 hundred, is there a brand I should hunt down so I don't get a piece of crap?

For my Duster I just bought a tank from e-bay. It was not the cheapest or the most expensive. My goal was/is different from yours though. I just wanted the stupid car back on the road.

I'm looking to make a reliable driver I can enjoy tooling around in, but I prefer decent stuff that's not gonna fail in 2 years.

So I was putting my water hoses away for winter, & found my trim rings, I'll pull them out tomorrow & check how bad they are, also found the center caps those look good to go,
rainy tomorrow so I'll dig out the other 2 rims & see where they are at.

Today I Gave the 1st rim one more round, can try my paint experiment tomorrow it's supposed to be rainy so I'm stuck in the garage.20221115_154855.jpg
Got a good start on rim #2 , then I realized I have to do another for the spare, dang it! 20221115_154133.jpg

Spray bomb primer shoot today, got the back side of the trim & rim 1st.............20221116_140913.jpg20221116_140926.jpg
Heat shields look better than expected, not even sure I will use them, new exhaust won't have the resonators back there?
front side......................20221116_143532.jpg
Front of the rim not too terrible & the trim rings cover most of the pitted areas............... 20221116_143549.jpg
Got a coat on the leaf springs.............20221116_143522.jpg
Eastwoods stainless steel looks close to the right color, just hoping a light coat in the center will hide my overdose in there? 20221116_143609.jpg

Got lucky the 2 "dry" rims also had trim rings, out of the 6, 2 are pretty beat, the other 4 are a little beat.
but at least if the budget goes wild I can save a grand or so & use the 14's wish they were 15's like my original 'Cuda back in the day, but not the end of the world. 20221116_130801.jpgNow that I see the center caps have black in there my black rim idea my be too much, I thought the whole thing was polished metal?
2 "dry" rims, threw in my center caps................20221116_131038.jpg

Shot some black today, springs will pass................20221117_143551.jpg
Got 2 coats on the front of the trim, some of it's still wet so a bit shinier than it will be (semi gloss) & matt clear will be last.20221117_143608.jpg
Did not want to waste a lot of paint but when I looked at the rims all I had to paint for the test was the middle section, but with the black center caps might be too much, what do you think, was trying to match the hood scoops & tail panel to off set all the blue?
Again shinier then it will end up if done in black. Bottom is the argent ,original color.20221117_144531.jpg

Shit, your car's beautiful. Mine's as reliable as it can be, that's the simple part. You're making art there IMO.

You know how I painted my leaf springs? With a brush. LOL. I'm surprised you didn't disassemble yours, TBH. When they flex, they're likely to show rust. (Mine do)

Now that I see the center caps have black in there my black rim idea my be too much, I thought the whole thing was polished metal?
The part on those where it's black should be light argent.

I might have several good ones but I'd have to look to be sure. I bought an aircleaner and cop wheels from an old guy, and hauling all the other junk out of his garage was part of the deal. It seems like there were several of those in the package.

I did some rusty metal rustolium out of a quart with a brush. When I did spray some of it I had to thin it A LOT to shoot with the paint gun?.
If you find em shoot a pic for me maybe I'll buy em, I think the repops I saw were all polished metal?

So I started up the heater in the garage & then went out back & did a couple of rounds of blasting on that rim, still not quite to "good enough" yet, still one more to go.
then I moved inside & tested out the clears, matt on the heat shields, almost looks like flat black.20221118_153016.jpg
Tried the satin on the springs, a little shine, might go with that on the inside trim? back spring did that alligator thing , wish I knew what causes that to do it on one & not the other is weird!20221118_153028.jpg

I used to use polyester primer on deeply-pitted rims. Two or three coats, sand till the pits are gone, and then a coat of sealer had them ready for paint.
I never bothered with areas that were covered by trim rings or center caps, simply masking those spots off before laying on the poly.
It was sometimes hard going, getting into where the rim pieces met, but usually never more than an hour per rim.

$.02

I didn't find any caps worth shipping. I took a few photos to show the color and noticed there are two different BBP versions.

I think this is earlier model because the SBP pair that I have are smilar

And there's this version

They were all what I would call light gray organisol, they have a rough texture

Thanks for lookin, the one's on line (repops) looked like all polished metal, but I can's say for sure?
Now that I'm going argent on the rims, my black centers should be fine.

Today I started the heater up early, went out a little later & had the temp on the bench up to 62 , so I took the heat gun & worked the leaf spring first & then laid it down across all the other parts, at one point it had my thermometer up to 215* moved that away & started cleaning the parts.
warmed up the satin clear & very gingerly started on one piece of the trim, waited a while & then shot another, so far no blisters, yea!
Touched up the black on the spring, then finished off the trim, another small victory, no blistering on the front side, then hit the spring, no problem, so the trim cept for a little touch up on that back one & the springs are done, now I have to figure out how to pack & store them till install?20221122_153833.jpg
That didn't take all that long spent the rest of my day going through almost every box trying to locate one new door handle I had, you would know it was in the LAST box!
Still can't locate the pass side that came with the car for the key section?
Now I have to find a pass side only, they are mostly sold in pairs? & my key piece?
Moved the key section over to the new one, at least one door is close to ready to go on. 20221122_155136.jpg
The pass on on the right is off the old car & had a note on it that it wouldn't open the door!

I got lucky almost all the pitting will be under the trim rings, the argent area that shows was pretty clean.

So far on the gas tank classic industries has one that shows the 4 vent lines up front but it's like 360 bucks.
parts geek shows 4 different brands, all around 150 or 60 , but the guy on chat questions couldn't confire the vent lines, just say stock replacemeny (TRQ brand) , he did give me a # to call that maybe they can check it out?

Wow nobody knows what there selling!
Answer was I have to send in make model engine size & vin to get an answer.
On the other car I hooked it all up back to the front & then just capped off the return line in the eng. bay, with the different carb there was nothing to hook up to?
