Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Once I fill it up with butts & ashes no one will see the covered rust areas in the bottom!
;)

Lock set arrived, they look correct, still waiting on my door handle, but at least I can freeze while I try & get the trunk lid/latch assembly on. 20221209_114220.jpg

Dang I could use these things, too bad it looks like my pull handles are 2 of one side, can't seem to locate the other ?
They looked pretty good so I shot the satin clear on. 20221209_131508.jpg

Boy nothing goes easy with this project, so all I wanted to do was get the car down on jackstands so I can remove the tarp on the tent before the big snows come, not knowing how much we will get I wasn't sure the rotis could handle a couple a thousand pounds of snow?
Does hydraulic fluid freeze? couldn't get my jacks to come down, ended up heating them with a torch20221214_133130.jpg
Got the front to work but the back wouldn't budge, the main upright that slides down looked cocked a bit, raised the front a ton till that looked straight, even with that when I lowered both ends the back was still in the air buy about an inch, had to lower the top section a lot to finally get it on the stands! 20221214_135618.jpg
She's finally down, padded my stands to hope to save the paint on the rails. 20221214_135600.jpg

Looks like I'm done in the garage till I get some hi 40's or 50's, the coil froze on the heat pump & doesn't thaw over night in this weather! I guess the defrost cycle is busted on the ole girl, it's about 40 years old!

I have a heat pump and a hang-from-the-ceiling 220v barn heater in my garage. That barn heater turned out to be a good buy. The heat pump kind of sucks but it circulates a lot of air so it can only help the cause.

I wouldn't expect hydraulic fluid to freeze unless it had some water in it.

Mines detached & uninsuylated, takes a lot to warm it up, I have a 110v radiator type & a little 220 electric blower type, but in this weather it's like blowing in the wind .
Now I have to get the tarp off before the ice storm hits later tomorrow!
I have no idea why it wouldn't come down when I opened the ports,

Oh yea more bad news my engine builder jumped to 7K from 4, after putting me off for months, I think he just doesn't want to do it???
I may play a bit myelf & take a look in there this spring, have no idea what I'm looking for but what the hay!

I was only looking for a as close to stock as possible rebuild, no looking to go racing just want a reliable engine to cruise around a bit before they take my license away!
I have no idea what has already been messed with on this motor, so I'd have to work from there?
Just did a quick check at summit. mid 3's for a reg long block, but no delivery time , they do say if I double the price I can get the souped up one !

Yeah it sounds like you're better off to just do as little as possible to the numbers block to get it going. Until you have it checked you don't know what you can get away with or what it really needs. It could turn into a simple hone, rings, bearings job.

Has your rotisserie seen much water? The main shaft seals on them never seem to keep all the water out, I change the fluid on Sno-Ball's plow system every year and it amazes me how much water gets in from sitting...and we don't get a ton of rain here.

I'm guessing it could also be from the cold, the fluid is thick and heavy and the internal seals are probably sub par and allowing fluid to push by and not building pressure?

It went up just fine, when the rear finally decided to let go I had the valve pretty far open & it dropped a good 6" in one fell swoop!

My mechanic uses a machine shop about 30 mins. from me, I'm just afraid of being royally screwed not know enough myself , they could tell me anything & I have no way to know if it's good info or just their way to jack up the profits?

winterizing day! the tarp came down without a fight, no wind helped a lot.
got the soft cover on first to hopefully protect my paint.................20221215_135017.jpg
this top tarp is actually half of the tarp I lost to the snow last year, tied it off pretty tight, see how long it takes for the weight of the snow to start pulling it down into the open engine bay & shred the tarp?
double tarped the engine, tranny & rear end...................... 20221215_140907.jpg

Do the homeowner rules prevent you from putting a roof over that? I've got a neighbor with a pretty big one that's not much more than that same metal work with a roof on it. It probably doubles up on the number of "wall studs" and rafters, but maybe not. It's stood for as long as I can remember. Pretty sure it's set in the ground though :D

I've thought about putting one up myself. But I'm lazy.
