Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

That's why I wrote a big long check to reserve a place at the resto shop for my road runner. It's 3-4 steps forward, then a big kick in the nuts. I'm too old for that anymore. Probably I always was.

I'm a tad older myself, but maybe not any wiser , I think if I add up the money I sand off that car I could pay a pro to do it, but what fun would that be.

So after the hood fiasco I decided to wet sand the fender to see If I have one more panel I can use or if I screw it up I can paint it again when I redo the doors & hood, I'm a glutton for punishment!

I took it up to 2000 (twice) on the side of the fender, still seeing some peel, so afraid I'm gonna burn through, wish I knew exactly how much peel buffing will take out?
Want to get the side done so I can reposition it to do the top, that I don't want to screw up especially if the side comes out good!

I'm almost there, might actually have a piece I can use, sanded quite a bit more 1000 up to 2000 to take out more peel, buffed it twice with regular compound, still picking up a tiny bit of peel here & there & a few light sanding scratches, haven't burnt thru YET??? maybe 1 more compound & then move on to swirl remover.
then I have to hope I don't screw up the top part. 20220715_141451.jpg

No buffing today, I woke up with a very sore wrist (left side) , have no idea how I hurt it, but I can't close my hand or even grab anything with my thumb & fingers let alone bend at the wrist?
After the hood fiasco there was no way I was chancing that on an almost done fender, so I started sanding down the hood, which I was trying to put off for a while, another 1000 hours of sanding to get back to square one!

I woke up back around December 1 and couldn't put any weight on my left foot. It was the new year before I could walk on it and it still hurts and I've got a now permanent limp. AFAICT it's arthritis. I hope your wrist clears up soon.

Hand is good fender no so!
Burnt thru on the body line between the top & the sides, started a touch up with the blue but already looks like it's not gonna fly, will try a little edge sanding before I clear &see if I get lucky, I was sooooooo close!

Spent the day prepping for the next shoot, got the hood vertical & sanded the edges of the blue touch up on the fender, will wait till I have the other parts ready to shoot, then if the clear doesn't blend the patch I can shoot a coat of blue over the wet clear & then clear the whole fender???20220719_131929.jpg
Reinforced my cross tie, will hang one door on that & use the engine hoist to hang the other door, those I'll have to wait for help to hang.20220719_144304.jpg

Back to square 2 with the hood & the doors, shot the seal coat & just one coat of high build figuring these panels better be pretty straight by now! Guide coat is on too.
Now I have to get em back down on the tables to block em out.
Funny I can handle the hood myself (at least on & off the table) but the doors I have to recruit a helper. 20220721_124141 (2).jpg20220721_124159 (2).jpg

My wings aren't wide enough to pick up a hood. I'm unsure how I'm going to deal with the lift off hood on my A12. I won't be any stronger in a year when it's back from body and paint.

Oh I can't lift it alone, I walked it around on those legs, slid it to edge of table & then stood it up, hopefully it will go back on the same way, I'll know tomorrow. if I don't post tomorrow night I may be wedged under it in the garage!

Somehow managed to get the doors & the hood down myself, started the sanding on the hood, probably a few more days of sanding ( AGAIN ) before I can prep for another what has become the dreaded paint shoot!
I used to like painting, was never much into the sanding which I seem to create so much extra of!

Also decided before I try to sand out & buff the body I'm gonna shoot a couple more coats of clear on after burning through on a couple of panels so quick.

One of the problems that arises when you're trying to sand out heavy peel or dry finishes...

Maybe those light coats I was trying to impress you with were just too light, need to find a happy medium between this & nasty drips & runs!

Half a hood is better than none, got 1/2 done in 400, pretty clean a few tiny black guide coat drops left, see what the 600 will take out, looking like a session or 2 to finish off the hood & maybe I can do a door in one session ( I hope) so 3 or 4 more days of sanding.
Remember I only do 3 or 4 hours a day.20220722_151628.jpg

Me no likey heat either, been hiding in the garage with the A/C blasting till this heat wave is over.

Senior moment, guess being retired has it's draw backs!
Around 2 today I decided to hit the paint shop just in case I was ready to paint monday, get there & the door is locked, I'm like what's going on, so I google em (that said closed) but I got the phone # & called, as I'm listening to the hours it finally dawns on me IT'S SATURDAY!!!! & the close early on Sat.
Half the time I have no idea what day of the week it is. These days there pretty much all the same for me.

Oh yea, got the first half of the hood done in 600 & worked the 400 on the other half.

That's the only good thing about work. Unless you work 7 days a week or a swing shift. I've got my pill caddy with the days of the week on it to rely on too.
