72 Challenger R/T/A

News Flash: According to my latest labratory study on the rare "grease monkey" , carb cleaner absorbed through the skin or directly through the nasal cavity goes straight to the liver and produces an un ending supply of energy while reducing apetite and the need for sleep. Hence the body tries to capture all fumes storing them in the hairs of the nasal cavity for future use. The grease monkey can work seemingly endless hours without the need for oxygen. However if he showers or cleares his nasal cavity he may collapse. He may be revived by eating a combination of mixed nuts, popcorn, cheese, Ice cream or cold pizza.

Where'd you find my G.M. care and feeding manual? I've been looking everywhere for that. I must have forgot to pack it. :p

Last post for this trip.:(

In the morning I was getting everything ready to leave for the airport this afternoon when I checked my voice mail on my cell phone. My flight that was supposed to fly out this evening was cancelled. I had to reschedule the flight for tomorrow afternoon. Oh well, nothing better to do now than get in a little more work on the Chally.;)

I wanted to get some more bolt holes drilled for the fenders so they dont crack from only being held on in a few spots. Since everything was already lined up it was pretty easy. I got under the inner fenders and drilled some small pilot holes up through the nut clips. Then from the top I redrilled the holes larger to accomodate the bolts. Add bolts and body washers and then tighten.:2thumbs: While I was at it I also drilled out the holes over the radiator support and bolted them up as well. For the pass side bottom edge I had to relocate the clips to make them line up suitably. That required redrilling the lower edge of the body closer to the bottom edge to allow the fender lines to get close to matching the body lines. It's all solid now but it will still require some fine tuning to get everything lined up straight.

After that I pulled the safety catch off the R/T hood and cleaned and primed it. Then it got attached to the T/A hood and checked for fit. the bracket holes will need to be ovaled out to slide the whole latch assy forward about 1/4". As it sits now it wants to hold the hood open a bit when you try to close it. Should be easy to do but I was out of time and had to pack everything up to move the car.

Any more driveway dust clouds like that last one and I'll have to get some Dixie horns.:vroom: :bwuhaha:

I was thinking about possibly picking the Chally up in December while I'm in transit to my new duty station. That got me to thinking. If I want to have any chance of driving the car around PA in December I had better do something about the busted heater core. Soooo, Egag to the rescue! I found this one after some hunting around and used the BIN and PP to get it sent off to Mark.

It's been about 15 years since I last changed a heater core in a Chally. I can't for the life of me even remember any of the details of the job other than I DID change one out. Does anyone know of any things/parts I should look for, or have on hand, before starting in on it? I don't want to get there and find I need a simple piece to make the new one work and not be able to get it there in time to finish the job before I have to take off.

BTW, I'm looking to buy a truck in or around PA and then rent a U-haul trailer to get the Chally back to TX. Anyone that has, or knows of anyone that has, a 1990's Dodge Ram 2500 or 3500 regular cab IC'd turbo diesel 4x4 for sale near PA please let me know. I'm not picky about AT or MT but I would prefer a dually. My price range is no more than $7500 for one in good shape. They can be had for that price after looking on Ebay so I am hoping I can find one for less with a private sale. I'll be looking to buy it around December. Anyone that knows about these trucks feel free to clue me in on what to look for when shopping for a diesel.

Myy be heading up to Vigrina for some safety stining in Aprli. I'll be triyng to get over to PA and work on the car on eddknds an drag it back to TX wiht me when I leave. Yay!

I'll be driving up in the rnw truck and buting a trailre in PA to put the car on for the trip back. Yeah baby. Gots me some a dems also...they certainly work. ;)

Good to see you are continuing on with your car! I had to take flexeril once and it knocked my twig in the dirt, strong med for such a little pill. I could not imagine it along with other muscle relaxers or pain meds

Today I went to see another doc for my back. They're going to start trying epidurals on me next... Whatever, I just want it fixed already :(

Anyway, I'm out of the Safety Office and now I'm working in the Machine Shop. As a result, the Safety training in April is not going to happen. Soooo, I'm going to try to make it up to PA at the end of June - first week of July. I was thinking of this time frame so I can make it to the Chryslers in Carlisle this year. I'll fill ya all in when I get some details ironed out.

PS: Brett, I lost your number when I switched phones a while back. Give me a call sometime and we'll see if we can meet up sometime somewhere.

I got my leave approved so the trip is on for sure. I plan on leaving after work on the 29th of June or the next morning at the latest. Hopefully everything goes smooth heading up there. I'll be towing the front wheel dolly behind the diesel on the way up there. I hope that thing don't bounce around too bad out back with no load on it.

BTW: Hey XL, any chance of making this thread a sticky? I keep having to hunt it down. I promise to post more often if you do...:toot:

Two more days to go before the road trip starts.:wall::shifty: :2thumbs:

BTW: My back's been doing pretty good for at least a month now. I just hope it stays that way for a while.:helpme:

EDIT: I just re-read some of my post from January...[smilie=2::eek::bwuhaha: I don't ever want to have to mess with those meds ever again if I can help it.:dgt:

Well I'm sure you already know this but don't over do anything that might screw up your back while you're bringing it home. Hope it's a nice trip and I'm sure you'll be glad to have the car in a place where you can work on it anytime you choose. :) Good luck with everything! :helpme::bravo:

I just got a Cannon Power Shot A530 a week or so ago. I plan on taking a bunch of pics on this trip.

Well, I made it here ok. It only took about 27 hours of driving time to go 1790 miles over two days.

Anyway, I started out by getting a look at where I stood with all the parts and the car. I had to air up both the front tires, charged the battery and then had to give it a small shot of ether to get it to start. Once running, the engine ran fine once it warmed up a bit.

The throttle cable is very stiff and needs some serious lubrication. If I can't find any, I'll just use some silly lubrication to get by for now.:p

The neutral safety switch needs to be adjusted as well. I had to move the shifter down to first and then back up to park to get it to restart.

My goal for the car is to get it safe and stable enough to make the trip to TX on the dolly without incident. I decided to tackle the front end first. The two rear tires will be moved to the front and I'm putting two new tires on the rims going on the rear. I got some 195/60/14's so I can put them on Tam's Neon which needs two back tires. Oops, I guess I forgot to mention the recent Mopar addition to the family, huh? I'll fill ya'll in later bout that. I dont want to hi-jack my own thread.;)

I started fitting the fiberglass front valance to tie the forward lower edge of the fenders together. The new valance didn't give me much to work with as far as the size of the mounting tabs to attach the valance to the fender tabs. I'll have to figure something out for that. The three center mounting brackets I cut of the rotted original and then had to rebuild the lower edges of them because of the rust. I added some large tabs so I can bond the middle brackets to the valance with some of that space age bonding glue. I got the fabrication done for the new metal on the brackets and Mark welded them up for me. Then I ground the excess weld down to smooth the brackets and then painted them with a rust converter paint.

BTW: I don't have my own computer with me and I don't have a way to upload the pics here. In the mean time I'm storing these pics on my camera's memory card (1GB) and I'll add them to all these posts after I get back to Texas.
