72 Challenger R/T/A

Looking at the calendar today I was putting together a rough schedule for the things to come.

June:
- Catch up on my body shop bill. (I'm sure Nodda can relate:doubt: )
- Ship the new seats to PA from PR. I have them installed in the beater car right now.:toot:
- Get parts sent to PA: disk kit for rear, rebuild parts for front disks, new aluminum MC, MC adapter plate,TF904 master rebuild kit, shift kit and torque converter (converter suggestions welcomed here).

July:
- Fly to PA for a week somewhere between 11-25 July.
- Pick up a JY 904 tranny.
- Install rebuild kit, shift kit, torque converter and replace original damaged trans.
- Install and bleed brakes.
- Install electrical kit and new guages.

August:
- Fly to PA either late on the 6th or early on the 7th. Stay for about 2 weeks till 21-24 Aug.
- Weld in remaining structural pieces: Spring relocation kit, Subframe connectors and Torque boxes.
- Get picked up by the 340 Bro's on the way to the Mopar Nats. Then head over to XL's place for the Moparnuts Nats 12 Aug. Then head back to PA and get back to work on the R/T/A.
- Hang the fenders and install the hood and front valance.
- Paint the car (Gunmetal Grey).
- Re-dye and install interior. (Light Grey)
- Replace windshield.
- DRIVE THE DAMN THING!!!:giggedy:

When the new guages go in and work ok, I'll post the Rally guages in the parts for sale section at that time. I'll probably set a minimum post count restriction to make sure it goes to a worthy Moparnut.:bravo: Rusty and BB71 are on top of the list of guys I'd really like to see have it. Thing is, I only have one set so...

You mean we gotta bring you back too.....[smilie=p:

How much time in do you have so far? I wish I had stuck with it but with a court marshall in your 201 file promotions dont happen very often even though I was found not guilty.

Don't know zactly. I'm not keeping track of the time or the funds if I can help it. I'd have to think twice about it if I started doing that... :bwuhaha:

OHHH, You mean in the military? Right about 16.5 years at the moment. My next enlistment will be my last and have me retiring at 38 years old with 20 years in. If I make it to Chief, I'll do 4 more and stretch it out to 24 years.

@#!$%@#%&$%&(&%#!@$#$!!!!

I just got one of those "Good News/Bad News" type emails from Mark.

Paul I have some fairly good news and some fairly bad news. The good first. There is a guy who brought a hood to paint who says that he has a 318 with an auto trans with 55,000 miles on them that he wants to get rid of. They were out of a challenger that is being made into a muscle car. Any way he said make an offer. I think they would go cheep. The bad news is that your transmission is bad. It kinda made it part way out of the shop, then I hooked a chain on it to pull it the rest of the way, and can you believe it, then the chain slipped and it coasted back down and through the garage door. It took out the bottom 3 panels and bent your center bracket and put a bow in the radiator, which still holds water. It wasn't a profitable day. Blessings, Mark

I'm going to have to rethink my planned schedule based on the outcome of this mishap.:(

O man thats fucked up news Paul :( What 3 panels is he talking about? The garage door panels? It bent the radiator support? man that blows, sorry to hear this

Yea, the garage doors were shut to keep the cool air in the barn when the chain came off. The car had about a full car legnth of a head start before it made contact with the garage door. He was pretty mad at himself so he just pulled it back out and parked it in the upper part of the barn with out really taking a too close of a look at it. with the help of a friend, he was able to straighten the garage doors to be able to open and close it again... sort of.:shifty:

That really sucks, but it could have been much worse had the chain held out for another minute and a half. If I recall, the doors on the barn are not the securest things, and they gave in pretty easily. Imagine that e-mail had they been heavy steel or solid wood doors....

Maybe Mark will get it straightened out before you get back here...:helpme:

I'm not going to let this set me back too much if I can help it. I can use the radiator support off the parts car, get new repop inner fenders and I found an aluminum radiator on Ebag for around $160. If the strut bars are bent, I already have new ones with the front end parts I already got from Mancini.

Now I just need to find a '70 hood latch plate and related grill/valance mounting pieces. Anybody got any idea where to look for the pieces in front of the radiator support?

I have a bid in on a front hood plate and grill brace on Ebag ATM. There's another on in there too but it is going for quite a bit more.

Can anyone tell me if there's a difference between the 70 and 72-74 hood catch plates and grill mounting brackets?

I just won the bid for the hood latch plate pieces. I hope they are all the same from 70-74 but if not, I'll just modify it to make it work.

The guy with the engine and trans for sale said he wanted $200 for the tranny and $200 for the 318. Since I don't need another stock 318 I told Mark to go ahead and just pick up the tranny for me. I'm not sure if it's a 904 or a 727 but it doesn't really matter to me. A 904 would be a simple R&R job, but a 727 would require shortening the driveshaft. I already have a BB 727 for the 512 so this trans just needs to keep the car drivable until I get the big engine finished and ready to go in.

I definately won't be able to go to PA in July. I need to pay Mark for the body work labor from the last trip, the tranny kinda takes top priority after that and then I need to get a rear brake disk conversion kit and stock front disk rebuild kit. Those parts should get the car drivable after I put them on, but will set the whole schedule back further than I would have liked. The August trip is still a go, but there will be no chance of getting the R/T/A roadworthy in time for the Nats.

On a different note: I just recieved my transfer orders. I'll be getting stationed in south Texas around December - January timeframe. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the body and get the car put together enough to make the roadtrip from PA to TX. If not, I'll have to look into getting it shipped. If I can drive it, I'll probably srtip every nut and bolt off the parts car except the shell, put all of it on a trailer and drag it all with me down to TX.

So much for being an optimist huh?:doubt:

She will run just fine in primer- nice and warm in texas in the winter monthes too, just right for driveway maintenace. But if theres an on post EM craft shop like we had at Ft lost in the woods you are in like flynn.:helpme:
