70 Sport Satellite build

Here we are today. The primer looks white in the pics, but it's light grey. The bodywork looked fine in the wet primer, so it should block out fine.:giggedy:

Ain't nothing sexier on a '70 Plymouth B than body-colored wheels and dog dish hubcaps, sans trim rings. Period. Maximum effect using factory parts means using M-body 15x7 wheels (which it looks like he's got) unless you luck into a set of 15x8 Ramcharger wheels, which have the entire extra inch of width to the outside.

If you so desire, Stockton Wheel (and plenty of others) can knock the centers out of your factory wheels and reinstall them in an 8" rim, with any offset you desire.

Thanks for the pics, TC! That's exactly what I have in mind, just with more bright trim. As far as the wheels, my bud has a set of widened steelies on his 63 Belvedere, and is going to do me a part trade for a set that take the early cap that he can have widened. I also think Wheel Vintiques is making a nice reproduction wheel in 8 wide. I decided to keep the Roadrunner hood and the Torque Thrusts, so I can totally change the look of the car in an hour. However, instead of the black hood stripe, I'm going to try it in argent. With the argent on the tail panel and the grille surround, it should tie in nicely. I dunno, do you think it'll look natural, or like ass? Personally, I think it'll work with the understated theme of the car.

Minor sticking point on the hood stripe: it extends to the windshield. So, if you're gonna swap hoods now and again, they'd better both be striped. It'll look goofy to have a striped hood against a plain white cowl.

How about using only the center portion of the stripe, leaving off the two outrigger stripes? At that point, you could use the rear of the hood bulge as a break point and not have to continue the stripe onto the cowl?

As far as the argent stripe: to my eye, a pale silver like that doesn't show well on white paint without some kind of break: in the case of the grille and taillamp panel, you have the chrome trim and I think it'll look quite good. As a stripe, I have my doubts--I realize your looking for subtlety here but with the way the light plays on horizontal surfaces it'll end up being kind of blurry or muddy rather than subtle. I would probably define it some more with a ridiculously-thin (1/16") pinstripe outline in either black or preferably a darker argent (something like what was used on the '72 Road Runner grille). It still doesn't scream "blackout stripe" but it eases the eyes' transition from white to reflective silver. Done that way, I think it would be more appealing than the factory-style blackout, which doesn't excite me on that body style in white.

Simply my own two cents' worth. Shoot a test panel (junkyard hood, door, etc.) and see what you think.

Great ideas Jass!! :2thumbs:

And I agree with the Doc, I think light argent would look a little washed out on a white hood. But a dark pinstripe would definetly help define the area.

No pics, but I did finally get around to blocking the roof and most of the driver's side. The car looks nice. It'll need to be primed & blocked again. Considering it's been a few years since I did a complete, I'd forgot how friggin' time consuming fine blocking can be. Oh well, such is the price of a straight car.

But your painting it white.....So it don't need to be that straight....right.........:p

Now that I'm finally moved into the house and settled, I'm putting some time and money into the car again. Today, my repro steelies arrived, 15X8 with 4.5 backspace. These are going to look really good with the 15X6's up front. I also got my Edelbrock DP4B intake cleaned up, a new Holley 750 dual feed vacuum secondary carb, and a Goodmark fuel tank and sending unit, which have yet to arrive. It will live again!:giggedy:

The tank is here, and damn, it's nice. Made in Canada, too. I put the intake on today, and I still need to do some modification to the throttle cable bracket so it'll clear the kickdown cable bracket, but that's little stuff. Yeah, the engine's still sorta' dirty, but perfect will come later. This year, it's about driving.

Well it looks better then DCF's "Diamond in an ashtray"....:shifty::toot:

But looking good, get out and enjoy the car...the finer details can come later...;)

The tank is in, and the fuel gauge works! Out of curiosity, I took out the old sending unit. The photo should speak for itself. When I took out the old tank, I could hear the rust sediment sloshing around. The trunk floor looks great from the bottom, too. I took the car out for a road test with a new filter and clean lines, and it runs superb.

Since I've been trying to get the tv show off the ground, the Sport Satellite has been totally neglected. I had this weekend completely to myself, so I got motivated, and shot the car matte black, then put all the trim back on. As I stated in another thread, I'm way out of practice. I never really got my air pressure where I wanted it, since my gun pulls air faster than the compressor works, therefore, there's a bit of striping in the paint. Oh well, it's protected. PICT1432.JPGPICT1433.JPGPICT1434.JPGYeah, I wanted to pull the engine and paint it white, but the reality is that I don't have the time or means at the moment, and the car drives too nice to let it sit. Now all I need is registration and tires, and it's on the road. Looks kinda' mean with the matte color and the bright trim. Let it now be called Dr. Evil.:shifty:

I agree...the flat back with the bright trim looks good. Are you going to run black steelies with dog dish caps as well?

Yes! Tear it apart when it cools off, then follow my lead and let it languish for 6½ years!

:D
