Yaris's are fun. Always loved driving and working on smaller cars. How hard is it to make coin as an independent Amazon driver?
its spunky light and fun....what can i say ive fallen for the lil car, reminds me of a lightly modernized 70s corrola wagon with added spunk!...at times we both wish it were the 5spd....its what she wanted as well as the rs package..but that would have been a 6month wait she couldnt afford.......it doesnt even have power windows or AC..YET

since mom past in sep, ALL bills save for someone paying our mortgage payment 1 month ahead have been able to be covered, for the most part anyway...i sold an alfa off to give us a cushion, but every time we cut into it we make it up, prior to moms passing we had ZERO savings at any given time, right now were sitting on a nice cushion that "if" something happens were covered for 2-3 months of ZERO work

admittedly were kinda lucky since the house payment is a lil over 800 a month and that includes prop tax

many times even this week where we have pulled 200$ in 5-6 hour day as we often finish early and can grab another run...mind you were doing logistics ONLY none of that prime now or fresh BS

wife took a nasty fall last week, typicaly i nav, sort and prep everything, she drives and hustles packages, since the app nav is GARBAGE and..i know the areas as ive lived in em my whole life..so i can shortcut cross cut and re-route on the fly, often times running the routes in my own order, with her semi down shes driving and im doing all of the rest of it....a couple times weve even taken the car and the truck down at the same time grabbed a double load came home re-sort load n go..those were huge surged runs we couldnt resist 300+ in what should be 8 hours done in 7

when we get deep into the hills and woods it starts feeling like a ralley driver/co pilot situation as i can tell her how hard the corner is what banking etc before i can even see it, so in some cases we can and do drive pretty hard for the fun of it

everyone screams wear n tear on on the car but honestly....for some reason the lil yaris gets neerly 41mpg i assume the gearing or tune is different due to it being a canadian model 5dr hatch...the milage on it is still stupid low..and honestly the only real wear its seeing is in the seats....the typical day is 50ish miles round trip for a double..with out max being 81 to date...i know ppl who commute daily who do 60-70 miles round trip just to work in an office for 8 hours

best of all were actualy having fun doing it..even on the rainy pissy foggy black days its still fun, most of the mods to the car have simply made life better...the vent visors were for my wife fogging up the car since shes a furnace, the lights so she can se better fogs for cutting the crap 4 usb ports for chargeing devices, since we found that "idealy" you need 1 device to "work" 1 to hotspot wifi, and for taxes we have another running bakcountry nav recording our milage and "tracks"....early on without hotspotting wifi made the "working" device slow, so slow youd get to a stop and wait a few mins for it to "catch up" then fight with it especialy if your up in the hils or in a shitty cell spot...now everythings blisteringly fast with very VERY few hicups(aside from the nav which is shit)

bonus points for a brand new warehouse being put up 10-15 mins away, with the most friendly staff who recognize us when we get there, and they try and pull us off "small" loads or double loads going in the same directions, another one a couple nights ago was a 4.5 hour for 150ish, 4 packages way way way out in the sticks, did it in 2.5 WITH getting home, without speeding

My first thought is far too much product in too short a time... I get the heat gun damage, but those long shrinkage cracks makes me say the heat gun accelerated the cure-through time, usually pointing to too much millage in low spots and valleys.
I've had paint pull on plastic as it dries and cures, but never like that.
Sucks.

actualy your right in this case..i just didnt explaine it..i hit it with the heat to pull the edges back out....they were hitting the body and it couldnt be mounted..so out came the gun to re-form it and i wasnt exactly gentle about it since i didnt expect the paint to stretch in the valley as much as i needed it to..i had to rip those apart to the tune of 1/8inch+ per side and i knew 1 of them took on filler as there were huge imperfections id found in it prior to paint so i knew all to well the paint wasnt going to just stretch out for it, so i gave it the beans hard focused the heat so that it only deformed specfic spots all UNDER the part where it can pretty much never be seen instead of risking slow heat and deforming more of the unit as a whole..as this thing is THIN
 
I'd be sanding it and dusting on a few light coats of satin black from a spray bomb, at this point. ;)
 
finished it, it still put up a hell of a fight, in the end, 3 HEAVY epoxy primer coats, 3 HEAVY high build, all sanded to perfection, then shot with silver in a few coats to further refine any last bits and to give me a stable base color for the blue to go on then topped with clear

also did got her new chins fitted, made some adapter plates out of some thick ABS, as they didnt fit right, im useualy not for that kind of stuff, but after having it out for some runs, its amazing how much better it handles, the chins have actualy stopped the air flow from under the car, it feels like someone slapped on stickier tires, im quite impressed actualy

with everything fitted i spent time washing, waxing mounting, detailing, slick smooth shiny .....im still tying to find out what vintage the wheels are from since ive had em since the early 90s

it always got some attention with the wheels, now it gets even more LOL

1953 2n Ford repairs. Changing the leaking rear wheel seals and replacing the brake linings while im in there. Replacing all fluids and the wire harness, plugs, wires. Cap, rotor, and points. Rebuilding the carb, cleaning the fuel tank and lines, replacing the exhaust manifold and intake gaskets, and fixing engine oil leaks. i love those ole fords, always wanted to make a street rod out of one, how is it your managing to restrain yourself from cleaning and painting everything as you go?...id have one hell of a time not making her pretty, funny enough i could even be perswaded to leave the dents

Easy. It's not mine. A buddy if mine let my use it all last summer. I'm doing the maintenance before I return it. He asked me to do the rest while I'm there. I thought it was a fair trade.
 
I'm heading out to my garage for some much needed stress relief. I have a few projects I'm working on. One is a new oak shelf for my living room and I think I'm going to get my charger up on stands to start my summer prep work. I'll post some pics when I come back in.

Lately I've been tinkering on my latest acquisition. 03 Hummer I got for towing the Bandit to the dragstrip. This thing is a tank! I'm really enjoying it, price of gas be damned. 😁

That young girl is growing into a beautiful young woman. It's a good thing that you have the stature to scare off the lot of suitors. The cars are nice too.
 
You guys have such cool projects. I spent the other day doing a 4 wheel brake job on my daily commuter Civic. Pads and rotors all around, fairly routine brake job, other than the Electronic Parking Brake slowing me down, but got it sorted. Wife was mad I spent 6 hours in the garage. I neglected to tell her most of that time was spent finding tools and listening to music/avoiding her.

Took Goldmember for a drive today, dropped off some donations at the thrift store, and found a late 70's wooden/bamboo tennis racquet with Bjorn Borg's name on it for six bucks. In nice shape, will probably hang it on the wall.

Haven't been around much, busy with the 3 year old and 6 week old daughters. People keep asking if we're going for a third since I need a son... No, two is enough, and girls are the sweetest. I'm teaching the oldest how to play tennis. She says: "I'm going to be a Racquet star!"
 
1913 Maxwell. Engine and transmission rebuild.

I took it apart about a year ago. My buddy sent it off to have the bearings re babbitted, new pistons and valves had to be made and one of the jugs was cracked requiring some welding. The engine block and transmission are one aluminum casting. Yes, aluminum in 1913!


I primed and painted it today. My goal was to paint and then set the engine in the frame by the end of the weekend. I achieved that goal.

the fact that its cast aluminum is cool..but weird as hell the trans and block are all one cast..id imagine thats rather complex in the machining required for bearings etc
am i wrong or does the crank get inserted from the TOP and it doesnt have an oil "pan"


i spent 12 hours on a rush job yesterday on the hotest day of the year to make a new bumper for the neighbors travel trailer.....body not square, rails nope not square spacing nope not centered not square..everything was offset off spaced just ...OFF, basicly had to find center of the body then measure out for everything, and then build it on stands in the shop from scratch in an attempt to skirt the sun and some heat, shoot it and drill n mount it all the same day.....wanted a reciever and a longer poop shoot holder all in one...as the old bumper was a 2 piece deal cut to be around the door...pics later
 
The transmission parts and engine crankshaft load from the top. There is no oil pan. There is side panels that bolt on to the engine to access the rods and mains.

They should be visible in these two pictures.

if you look close the bolt on panels for the transmission can be seen as well.
