What are you working on?

I was in the mood to work this weekend and I was in my garage by 5:30 A.M. both yesterday and today. I got a lot done although the progress isn't easily seen. This work requires a lot and I do mean A LOT of assemble, disassemble, reassemble, sand, cut, assemble, and so on. I got the left side sill fit to the hinge pillar. I also got the door frames final fit to the door skins, and the gaps square and even. I got the Right side hinges mounted but the door binds part way through its swing so I get to re do that again. Yes, I said again. :D

finnaly sent the pig home with its owners(an 82 long box chev thats HER truck lifted n roudy to boot)...after WAY WAY WAY too many hours into fixing a "reputable" shops fuckerys...how dumb do you have to be to butcher a painless wireing kit and be unable to install it...worse yet..how stupid to you have be to be "unnable" to loacate parts for a chevy 350 crate motor swap when the old motor is also a 350?..on an 82 truck?...yeah...either way good fundages, and netted me more work on it later and another project for them as well

finnaly a lil time to catch up on shit..maintinance on the exploder....a few weeks back i had a quick chance to toss a 4inch lift on it while fixing rear springs waiting to snap from oversag..80s f150 single springs added to the oem main...handles beautifuly and looks descent to boot

anyway..had a friend coming down with a 02 ex police vic to do brakes on needed to rotate tires on the explorer sport..so down came the gtv out came the lift up went the explorer down it went up went the vic down it went back neer the shop so i could bike maintinance all in the same day

The bucket would be full of bad gas and caliper effluvium.. Not sure I want to wash with it. The gas line I'd thought of, but because my "shop" is spread out between my basement and my my "garage", the table will be moving around.. I've got compressors in both, so I'll just drag the closest air hose up to it. That decision is usually made by weather and proximity to this little guyView attachment 18987Those scales tip depending on the season.

Order from Rockauto once in a while do yah? :D

I'm not judging. I currently have 9 of my own. I absolutely LOVE the magnets.
It's sad, really.. I got into the business working with real parts guys. I was a driver for Yates auto parts before the chain stores had a delivery service. I have a commercial account with Advance. Have for over a decade. The parts chick in Richmond was sweet on me, so she gave me platinum status.. Or whatever the top tier is.. I moved here six years ago, and my parts guy is decent, but hindered by his company and stock. Dawn, (Richmond parts lady.. Where are you?) could get anything in a day. Now, I have to wait a week at times for anything 40 years or older. I get it. It's not his fault, because there's way less demand for those things, also, I'm less forgiving because he doesn't smile and have a flirtatious personality and boobs. Rock auto it is.. Just beware of the off brand stuff from China, and never buy Mevotech

dippy whats firghtening about that?..wish ida got a shot of the vic up in the air too....i LOVE that lift

as for parts..i have been a corporate account holder at shucks since 92 for very similar reasons from iron ..however...when they became orileys most accounts got wiped...a friend of mine has built me a new account and gets most anything i want in a day..even alfa bits

I've been working on consolidating all of my web hosting accounts into one.
The same one MOPARnuts is on.

So, far, I haven't seen any impact. And things actually seem to be faster on this platform.
The cool thing is that if I need some more horsepower, I can order it up on the fly and it just adds a few bucks per month to the bill.

I've also trimmed down the household bills by turfing the phone line for a VoIP solution. Ooma.
The yearly cost is about the same as two months of the old service.
and I swapped the TV package for a less-expensive one.
Cut about 140 bucks per month.

Exciting, isn't it?

Wild times in DCF land.

Oh, and I've been mutilating a pedal build.
I messed up on the drilling layout and had to oval the holes for controls.

I'm going to see if I can hide it for now, but I've already designed a full engraved aluminum faceplate to cover it all up.
I haven't ordered it yet. It's going to run between $150 to $200. Not sure it's worth it...

Fixed an LCD monitor tonight.
I took it apart last week and found most of the electrolytic capacitors on the power board were bulging.
I ordered those caps that I didn't already have on hand and they arrived today.
Popped them in and put the monitor backed together again.

It works as good as new. Which is good because it was less than a year old when it crapped out.

and it only took me five years to get around to looking at it!!

Over the past year I've repaired 5 flat-screen LCD and one plasma TV. All had the same cap issue. It's got me to wondering if the manufacturers are purposely installing borderline caps to shorten the lifespan. Plus the fact that it's near impossible to find a TV repair person anymore. There doesn't seem to be any correlation to brand either. Many internal circuit boards interchange between low-end and high-end brands.

I repaired my own Phillips 47" about 8-9 months ago for total cost of less than $15. :hmmm:

Yep. I spent about $15 CDN in caps for this repair - but I paid for the convenience of fast shipping for a just a handful of parts.

Had I shopped around, I could have stocked up for the same amount of money and the repair would have worked out to be pennies, and I'd be all set for the next one.

I found at while researching this monitor that it is an EXTREMELY common repair - as you say - across many, if not all, brands.
Once you get past opening the case, the repair is very easy.

It's a shame to think of the stuff that gets tossed when this problem occurs.

Quote "It's a shame to think of the stuff that gets tossed when this problem occurs."

It's called making it a throw away society to keep the cash flow coming in.

I've even considered starting a personal "stash" of caps collected from discarded boards from other repairs to get costs lower yet. :hmmm:

For them it's coming in, for us it's going out. :(

I try to take most things apart first before I decide to replace it. Kinda reminds me of this time I tore apart a carb for a 2.6 Mitsu in a Reliant years ago. I went to the local Mopar dealer to try to buy the part I needed. They tell me the carb is listed as "Non-servicable" and I have to buy a new one for $700. I noticed that they had the same carb in a box sitting on the floor. I asked about it and was told it had been replaced as a warranty unit and this was the core. After learning what was wrong with that carb I ask what the core value was, $25.
Since they didn't care where the $25 came from I made a purchase of many spare parts. (which I never used) :(

Needless to say, $25 was a lot less than $700.
