And you can add a minimum of $100 each for core carbs. And then add in the linkage & plumbing. You can easily end up with $1200 - $1500, plus your work, for a working intake system.

Rebuilt 97's can bring $250 each.

I've seen some tri-power setups, similar to what I put on my brothers flatty, sell for $1200+

$1400, and NO plumbing or linkage;

It's all about the "eye candy"

If my brother had put in a chev sb like eveyone else, he would have a cheaper setup, more power & reliability. But would you be impressed when you looked under the hood?

A couple of old cliche's come to mind, "All show & no go" and , "If it don't go, chrome it"

A couple of weeks ago my brother was showing his truck to a guy that's had several HD's, 6 or more vettes and even a DeLorean. He looked at the flatty and said, "That's a Hemi" :bwuhaha:

On a side note, years ago a local had a 409 that he spun a bearing in. He had one of his gearhead buddies put it back together with parts of other motors laying around. He put in a 396 crank & rods, (direct bolt-in) with the '09 pistons. They figured the displacement was about 384, but power-wise it was stronger than the original '09. I guess the head porting was more suited for less cubes.

That's one of the reasons shows don't interest me anymore. I'd rather watch a beat-up rusty Camaro run a 11.90 than look at a rat rod or gasser clone that fulfills all the obligations but can't get out of its own way. If you're showing a car and claiming 750HP, you'd better damned-well have a dyno sheet or a timeslip.

The great thing about a flathead is you can look at it, appreciate its nostalgia, and instantly know it's slow.

Flattiess might be slow but they sure sound good with duals! There is just somthing about an old school hotrod with a flat head ford, strombergs, and offy heads. I'd love to have one.

spped isnt everything.....theres a sweet spot for everything tho...speed lies in the straights and brute force..cruiseing low and slow is fun when you just want to do it...corner carving...you think going fast is fun try carving its twices as adictive......sometimes form over function applys when your building something "era correct ish"..at that point it IS fast but its fast for what it is noit when you compare it to a brand new ferarrie.....much like an old XKE..they WERE fast they arnt now..but they are rough fast and sexy in theyere own right

Heh... you should go corner carving with me sometime. I'm pretty certain Stretch will back me up that the Foster City Road at a minimum speed of around 97MPH is not something most people would even attempt, particularly heading south. That switchback before the intersection with US2 is pretty evil. Trader's Mine Rd is twisty as hell, too--way worse than Foster City. It also has a lot of loose gravel atop the pavement, but I did in a stone-stock '84 Escort keepin' it over 60MPH. In both instances, my passengers were sure they were going to die. Neither did, but either one of them will tell you, "That crazy f__ker can wheel a car." A friend of mine tried to duplicate the Trader's Mine stunt in a Cadillac Cimarron, and left tire marks about 12 feet up on a couple of trees in the process. I didn't believe it until I saw it myself--completely missed the curve. A passenger in the back seat was in the emergincy room for over 2 hours getting pieces of the back window plucked out of her ass.

Ah, to be young and immortal again. How we all lived through it, I'll never know.

I ran my Mal7bu hard down those two roads a few times. Scared more than one passanger!

No offense, Stretch, but I'd be surprised if the Mal7bu could've pulled the rate the Chonz Om did. We were in the 130-140MPH range a few times on that Foster City-to-Waucedah run, and that was with thousands spent on the suspension (everything but leaf springs). I thought Kevin was going to shit his pants.

You remember how beat and ugly that car was. I had over eleven grand tied up in that thing by the time I sold it... with a green fender, a black quarter, no spoilers, a flat-gray crushed driver's door and the hood in primer. Oh, and that gold-plated metal cocktail sword stuck through the cracked dash. :D

Yes.

I've driven and ridden in cars that would smoke your bottle baby in the quarter. I've been ticketed for as much as 90MPH over the speed limit with the record clocked top speed being 146MPH. I've gone faster than that as a passenger in both a '72 Charger SE (not the Black Bitch) and an Audi RS4. I think that Charger was the fastest I've ever gone, and I don't ever want to go there again as a passenger. 2.47 screw, the 400 singing 7 grand on 275/60R-15s near Austin Straubel Field in Green Bay. Yes, I was screaming like a fag choirboy for him to slow down. A swap to a 4.10 8¾" put him deep in the 12s with no other changes.

I like curvy roads, though. I was hanging out with a couple of gearheads tonight at a former service station, and the subject of the Foster City Road came up. I told them about the incident with Kev in the Chonz Om, and one of them looked at me disapprovingly and said, "That's insane. That road is fucking wicked." My response was, "Yeah, well I'm fucking insane... and I'm still here to tell you the story, aren't I?" I even offered to call Kevin since he was in the car. They both told me not to bother him and they both said they never wanted to ride with me.

Sounds like suicide on 4 wheels to me. :D

I believe there's a saying something along the lines of, When you cross through the Pearly Gates, come in sideways with the tires smokin and exclaim, "Damn! What a ride!" :vroom:

I never really did find the Chonz Om's limits. If you ever want to build a good-handling 2nd-generation GM F-body, I suggest getting familiar with the name Herb Adams. The VSE line was incredible--just don't buy the rear swaybar first. Oversteer is only fun when you induce it... when you're not expecting it, things can get rather scary in a hurry. By the time I'd gotten used to the car, I installed the front VSE bar, and had to start all over. That thing was absolutely neutral in corners unless I got crazy with the throttle. When I did that, it was an intentional and controllable slide.

In order, the three cars I miss the most are 1) my '73 Challenger, 2) my '72 SE, and 3) that '78 Trans Am. For pure driving enjoyment, the T/A was the best of 'em. It was simply a hoot to drive even though it was a pain in the butt maintenance-wise.

Went a little different route with the wheelie stands, I think was the best way.

The black plate is bolted to the the wheel dolly.

I also have been helping with my brothers new commuter vehicle.

2006 Saturn Ion-3 2.4L Eco-Tec 5-speed 118,000 kms (73,000 miles), it's a rebuilt write off he picked up from one of the re builders that frequent our shop with inspections.

Nice little car. I love the rear half doors.

It runs really nice and was well looked after but I think it's spent most of it's on gravel but for the money he paid for it it was still a pretty good buy.

This was in there WAY too long though, will get better mileage for sure now. :D

I also got some eaves put on the garage.
