tiny...aka 1958 lloyd

You fuel tank, with my assumptions that it's length is 28", width is 11" and height is 9" should give you about 12 gallons of fuel.

hmm 12 gal..i can live with that..as my personal slated minimum size was 10gal(enuf to get to the beach and back on a tank..or to victoria 1 way)...and those #s are pretty well set in stone..i could add 1-2 inches max to the 28 but that loses some of my comfort area tward the battery anything over the 9 means putting a hump in the flat floor which i dont want to do as ive left just enuf for sender, returns, pickup, and filler cap...or dropping down into my exhaust....as for the 11 well i "might" be able to push it to 12.5 if i snugged it ultra tight between the rails back there

12gal sounds crazy small but that motor was getting 31mpg in over double the current weight...thanx cow

Just had a thought and redid my math, it comes out to 11.96 gallons BUT it will probably be a little less then that due to the wall thickness of the metal being used. And you will not be filling it to the absolute top of the tank,so maybe 11.5 gallons is a better estimation.

so..here is this weeks spam of pic's

did some rear body bracing..someones bound to go..."umm your not making a cage with that stuff are you"..NO..im not...its simple to brace in the rear for if/when its pushed..and to keep the rear hatch area squared up...took me several hours and fighting to get that door opening squared up..everything from the middle of the side glass back was LITTERALY free floating back there so not only did i extend the frame into the body but added the hoop to help tie in the roof..the body is now ridged back there but also on the inside it will help give me a mounting point for interior panels..while doing this i started in on the batterybox/fuel tank brace work

next up
tore into the rear door re-worked my latch so now it shuts like a new car door..ripped the hinges apart as they kicked and screamed..first bending the door BADLY in multiple locations..before i pryed them out and had to take the 10lb mini sledge to the pins to get them apart..yeah they were rusted in there...while out i i took to the door fixed my damage as well as a major fold in the upper hinge pocket and massaged it out to where it should have been..it had been that way by the looks of it..since long long before the car had been parked in a field to die

next in line
was to re-do the brakes and steering...this is something that had been pissing me off for some time.....many stock cars and such use this brake setup....with such piss poor tube pedals...ugh i never could stand it and always planed to change it but never knew how i wanted to do it, as this was HOW I GOT THEM off ebay...after making countless measurements and scratching my head going home and sleeping on it...i came up with a plan to drop the unit below the main cross bar and left this would inturn let me bring the steering up to an acceptable haight and angle while moving it more tward the center of the car

next..
rolled pan...this has bugged me from day 1..NOTHING i ever came across would ever work as a graft so i knew id be making it from scratch..but how do you make something that you have no measurements for...you start bending up randome chunks and sticking em back there till something starts to feel right....

..got side tracked and played with the seat to see if my pedal ideas were on track

the fun..re-assembd cleaned lube the bender/break/roller as well as the bandsaw and re-worked our 1inch thick plate welding table

used a lil bit of everything on the last beautys of the day..1/4 inch plate brake pedal arms....i sent my lel bro on a mission to drill them to fit TIGHT to the old pedal swing sleeve..then with a bit of hacking and cleanup PRESSED hem onto the sleeve..this way i "can" tweak them as needed but due to them being tight it will take a hammer to move them which means fine tuneing them to where i want them will not be a huge pain...once there set its a matter of finding some rubber pads i like and making the pedal ends...
while he was drillin i was cutting down sheetmetal for the rolled pan....8x4 strips that will get fed thru the roller for a 4inch drop and back roll.......ill let your imaginations run with that untill ive got something to show you

so..todays bit of work

off with the front bumper for some work

onto the lift for some welding and mockups

now you see what all those chunks of sheetmetal were cut for....onto building rolled pans as well as rockers etc...a TON of mockup but the rear is shapped up to looking GREAT..yes its "stepped" the fenders will remain hanging lower than the bumper rolled section..mostly to change the way the rear looked...getting the curve right was NOT an easy task......

drilled out the spots on the front bumper to lose the "stock" rolled pan...its going onto the "stock" example.....and used a machined "block..welded to a chunk of tube as a "long reach" body hammer to get all the edge of the bumper flat and square again

built up a jig to make rolled rockers..time consuming to get them all square trued and the seams lined up..lots of trimming and tweaking...the results...2 rockers

back on the ground its not as low as id like...but i know a speedbump isnt going to take me out..id LOVE to get it lower but the only way to do it and have it look right would have been to have dropped the body further on the chassis...the rear rolled pan is flat lined with the bottom of the dedion tube

You think Pepsi will hook us up for free for all the product placement in the last few shots? :helpme: :D

so i didnt feel like trying to figure out how to work with the rockers on the floor so i made up a set of jack point extensions...stupid me i grabbed the wrong stuff and they were NOT taking the load very well at all....so considering it was in the air and not wanting to have possible issues later i brought out the forklift to support the rear tube and a jack pillar to support the front i left her in the air as i hacked the jack point back off and made up some HEAVY angle iron units

about this time my camera died and youll note no more time stamp....had to use my lil bros camera..the shop aint darker just the camera screwing with me

made up a front rolled pan off the bumper peice by peice to get the curvature right...not as easy as it looks...but overall i think it turned out right...i wish the nose sat lowwer in the weeds but thats not going to happen without looking silly..or re-starting on most of the front end....this is just what i have to deal with due to the original restraints of the body as well as the milano chassis....however the front pan sits FLUSH with the bottom of the oilpan ....idealy id have prefered to get the bottom of the pan at about the height of a can of pop but im just a HAIR above standard curb height....so if nothing else i know ill NEVER have to worry about speedbumps

OMG a car on a hoist a forklift and a bottle jack on a stand..what would osha think.....LOL...lazy..nah just useing the tools availible to me....ive got multiple stands but havent modified them out to exactly what i want just yet..as scary as it looked up like that it was crazy stable..remember this chassis is as stiff as a full cage racer

Sure making some progress now....looking good!!

But yeah that jack on the support looks a little scary...:shifty:

And once again when one of his projects is precariously suspended in the air, I always get screwed into being UNDER the car working on it! :D (some day we'll tell you the story of the brown '69 Barracuda 4x4. :shifty:)

another busy few days...actualy yesterday was a 16 hour day

started in by attacking the dash and getting it finalized ..a bit more sectioning some filling and then welding the wings onto the doors..yes the gaps to the doors are wide....for now..ive got some tricks for that later

next up...how do you make a rolled pan from STEEL..alot of patiance and a bit of creativity ..as seen earlyer the main rolled pans are easy but when you get to the corners things get complicated and you find yourself doing a million welds and a ton of trimming and a bit of hammer work hand forming etc..the results speak for themselves.....altho im thinking about adding an a small air damn to the bottom as i know thats going to be pushing ALOT of air under the car

once one side was done it was time to knock out the other sie..oh just copy and repeat..yeah right..ive got about 1 day into the front bumper corners alone

next up since the rear has been finalized i started rolling the rear passenger fender more of the same indeed but in some ways harder as i incorperated a slight rake into the roll to help transition between the high tail and low rockers

lastly..i am working on a "stock" example of the car and turn my lil bro loose on it stripping it down and initial sanding it to find out how bad off it is(i know it needs complete floors but otherwise its not bad).....we couldnt resist getting the racked shots that really show off "before and after" its a true side by side comparison of how far ive come

tired so very tired....
so i ordered up a set of goodies ....that came in damaged...but i couldnt resist finding out how well they were going to look..."knockoff" spun aluminum moon saltflat disc's...even sat down and drilled and tapped the wheels for them ......i wouldnt be caught dead running "hubcaps" besides caps wouldnt have had anything to hold onto on these wheels....and somewhere someone hunting for the "wine glass" wheels is KICKING AND SCREAMING about me "drilling" into them.....but i will say this 1 of the wheels has CLEARLY been repaired in its life and the other 3 all have light curb rash..one of the 3 curb rashed ones was bad enuf i had to take a flapper to get the discs to fit

finished up the last of the rolled pans...just need to full weld clean and do a small amount of tie in work on the rear pan..yes its "stepped" and will remain that way but it needs a little transition peice on each side

someone out there in the world has just gotten pissed at me for not only cutting up an un molested 58 ford dash but also a set of good clean straight upper interior trim peices (ive got 3 sets so now worrys to me)

sitting low and slow on salt flat discs sure just tied the "EURO-SLED" together
