so..here is this weeks spam of pic's
did some rear body bracing..someones bound to go..."umm your not making a cage with that stuff are you"..NO..im not...its simple to brace in the rear for if/when its pushed..and to keep the rear hatch area squared up...took me several hours and fighting to get that door opening squared up..everything from the middle of the side glass back was LITTERALY free floating back there so not only did i extend the frame into the body but added the hoop to help tie in the roof..the body is now ridged back there but also on the inside it will help give me a mounting point for interior panels..while doing this i started in on the batterybox/fuel tank brace work
next up
tore into the rear door re-worked my latch so now it shuts like a new car door..ripped the hinges apart as they kicked and screamed..first bending the door BADLY in multiple locations..before i pryed them out and had to take the 10lb mini sledge to the pins to get them apart..yeah they were rusted in there...while out i i took to the door fixed my damage as well as a major fold in the upper hinge pocket and massaged it out to where it should have been..it had been that way by the looks of it..since long long before the car had been parked in a field to die
next in line
was to re-do the brakes and steering...this is something that had been pissing me off for some time.....many stock cars and such use this brake setup....with such piss poor tube pedals...ugh i never could stand it and always planed to change it but never knew how i wanted to do it, as this was HOW I GOT THEM off ebay...after making countless measurements and scratching my head going home and sleeping on it...i came up with a plan to drop the unit below the main cross bar and left this would inturn let me bring the steering up to an acceptable haight and angle while moving it more tward the center of the car
next..
rolled pan...this has bugged me from day 1..NOTHING i ever came across would ever work as a graft so i knew id be making it from scratch..but how do you make something that you have no measurements for...you start bending up randome chunks and sticking em back there till something starts to feel right....
..got side tracked and played with the seat to see if my pedal ideas were on track
the fun..re-assembd cleaned lube the bender/break/roller as well as the bandsaw and re-worked our 1inch thick plate welding table
used a lil bit of everything on the last beautys of the day..1/4 inch plate brake pedal arms....i sent my lel bro on a mission to drill them to fit TIGHT to the old pedal swing sleeve..then with a bit of hacking and cleanup PRESSED hem onto the sleeve..this way i "can" tweak them as needed but due to them being tight it will take a hammer to move them which means fine tuneing them to where i want them will not be a huge pain...once there set its a matter of finding some rubber pads i like and making the pedal ends...
while he was drillin i was cutting down sheetmetal for the rolled pan....8x4 strips that will get fed thru the roller for a 4inch drop and back roll.......ill let your imaginations run with that untill ive got something to show you
