Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Purple Power works great on plastic.
I use Super Clean. Very similar to PP, but a bit stronger in my opinion.
It doesn't like aluminum!
I use it to strip any gluebomb models or parts I buy, and new resin parts.

gluebomb models...lol my goto for those has been dot3, so long as its not "clear" plastic you get back out what feels like brand new plastic, soft like new not hard and brittle, i think of it as the same as wintergreen oil on rubber

I have my Dad's collection ( quite large & some good stuff ) sold off a little a few years back & then set up a room & probably added 2x what I sold off, but a 0$ hobby so far!

Mucho betterer ! 1st bucket went without a hiccup , cleaned the 1st LCA a little better & put a good dent in the second.
2nd bucket again smooth sailing finished off the 2nd LCA.

Now I can see little pieces of leaves & stuff in the bucket, 3rd round I hit one of the hood hinges, paint comes off easier than rust! I think it clogged once but I had pushed the pickup to the bottom of the bucket .
clouds overhead all day, wind picked up a few times, but I was all cleaned up around 3:30 finally rained what 6 or 6:30 .
Now I'm wondering if the old stuff picked up some moisture just sitting around the garage or just too much debris over it's many turns through the mill?

Gotta see what other mid size parts I can blast, I'm now putting off that cowl area, not even sure how I'm gonna set that area up?

Much better results...............20210923_143458.jpgI think I might need new bump stops! 20210923_120908.jpg

Are you protecting those freshly blasted parts right away?
Handling them with gloved hands?

Flash rust happens fast...

Well not exactly, I did at least get them in the garage, but no gloves, so I guess it's wax & grease remover before I paint!
I'll find out soon, it's been raining a while & supposed to be all day tomorrow, so when I open the garage sat. I hope I don't see orange parts!

personaly....ive found humidity more the issue with flashing up, in fact ive got bike parts i blasted 5+ years ago that are still raw with no flash, mind you they did get wrapped with paper and stuffed in a box....but that box has been in the carport, i do also have a raw frame sitting on the shelf with no signs of flash...maybe ive been lucky, but we are the pacific north WET....

honestly humidity has caused me more issues with media too, i went so far as to use an AC condensor inline between the compressor head and tank and holy crap it fixed every issue i had with my blasting cab

if you can sneak it past your wife you can always bake your old media to bring it back to life if you suspect a moisture issue...i have to do that now n then with the finer grit stuff

So a few years ago I met (well saw for the first time in years) my 2nd cousins, we talked a little about drag racing, after we moved mom in with us she spoke with other cousins a few times, NETO Headlines.jpeg.jpg my "cuda came up, we sent pics, they forwarded them to the Wilko's who in turn sent me some of their racing stuff.
I had no idea they were that into it not your average joe taking his street ride for a few passes.Screenshot 2019-07-14 14.17.00.pngScreenshot 2019-10-07 11.05.32.pngThey didn't do much with covid, started back up this year, now these guys have to be pushing 80 & then we got this news , they wrecked the car, all they could save was the electronics, think that might be the end of their racing days. Man I hope I can still just drive to the store when I'm 80! racecar fire 3.jpgracecar fire 2.jpgracecar fire.jpgThey got him out ok, but he's in the hospital with many broken bones, a sad day for the family & the local racing world.

Did a few more rounds of blasting over the last few days, today I tackled those LCA outer bushing shells, what a PITA, the one with out rubber took some heavy duty chiseling & pounding, once I got it folded in pretty good I could bash it out from the bottom! the other at that point had the rubber inside so the pounding was just bouncing, I finally had to burn the rubber out to finish the job, my screw driver is now insulated!20210927_150413.jpg

Got some paint on a few parts, these are semi gloss black with a coat of matte clear20210929_135259.jpgRan out of semi , so just prime on the rest!20210929_135235.jpg20210929_135224.jpg20210929_182541.jpg

Question for you mopar experts, this fly wheel/ converter is totally different than on my 73, that has a flywheel with the teeth on it that the converter bolts to, this has a tiny flywheel??? & the teeth are on the converter???
Is this correct for a 74 360/727 or aftermarket parts? 20210929_135550.jpg20210929_135609.jpg

teeth on converter was the ONLY way ma put em together, but that doesnt entirely mean its stock, that one with as steep as the depth between the teeth and converter are tells me is got some extra stall in it

Then I have to assume the 73 was also messed with, I knew something was up when it kicked out shifts at 6200 RPM's when in drive & I used the kickdown from a roll!

Today I finally blasted inside the cowl area, the mess wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, really couldn't get much, I stuck the gun in every angle I could, even upside down, got a few clean spots, the rest I hope it at least knocked out the loose stuff, tomorrow I will flood it with the rust converter & hope it comes out all the cracks in that seam , then it's got a few more pinholes to deal with, guess now I have to start hunting down the rotisserie , bottom is the last of the really nasty stuff, tons of undercoating to scrape off! 20210930_145147.jpg20210930_145100.jpg

todays adventure was to spray the rust converter into the cowl, started in the cab & shot what I could get frome the big heater box hole, too bad it's an a/c car no access on the drivers side, the cans sprayed well upside down which was a good thing. I flooded the rear edge up under the windshield & using a mirror it looks like I got most of the top, tried to spread a few of the nasty drips that came down, but with the screens on it's hard to see in there anyway.20211001_124835.jpgNot a lot seeped out of the seam, but every other hole & the pin holes let it run! I gotta see how much seam sealing I can do from in there, seems crazy to just seal the bottom edge & let the water in the top? 20211001_124814.jpg

So I stripped the rest of the hood, I still want to hang the guy who did this to a perfectly good hood !!!20211001_141714.jpgOne of the few areas that was good on my 73 hood, I cut em out to see if I can piece something together ? 20211001_141721.jpgGonna try & smooth out his cuts & then trace out the hole on my pieces then try & make a decent cut on those, welding will be interesting, grinding looks about impossible in a few places! 20211001_141651.jpg

to be honest...while its a hack job i actualy aplaud someone for making it functional especially if it was feeding a dual snorkel...cause i hate non functional crap...dont get me wrong its a good lookin hood but in my head at the end of the day its as fake as the dime store chrome louver scoops they stick on their fenders

I think he came up short, inserts were not cut & there was nothing but a regular air cleaner in there, I think his light bulb (idea) just burnt out!

Back to padawan learner, cutting it out of the old hood piece went pretty fast, left 4 tabs on it to try & help align it.20211002_113008.jpg20211002_112948.jpgThen I stripped it & bent the tabs so it would sit in flush, added some clamps & started spotting .20211002_121206.jpg20211002_130755.jpgAll those black spots by the wide gap ( lower right) are air holes & way worse than they look in this pic20211002_145346.jpg
tried to clean up the outside a little, but working upside down was rough, I'll need a helper to flip the hood.
So under the framing I'll have to JB weld a bit but I think it will hold up ok!
Trying the ole copper behind the big gaps, still a pain trying to connect the 2 sides I figure I'll be on this a couple more days.
So I gotta talk combat pay with the boss, I was out 5 hours straight, for me that's double time & a half!
But I'm feeling better about it, it should come out ok!20211002_145426.jpg
