My 71 Duster work in progress

They are pretty sprightly with the 3.9 and the manual.

If you do indeed have an AX15, I have an virtually-new Hurst shifter for it. I put a '70 B-body bench pistol grip in mine. Pistol grip notwithstanding, it was quite a difference in shift quality.

UPS closed the investigation

"The investigation has been closed. We were unable to contact the receiver."

I guess I'm going to call Cope and if they're not going to do anything I'll just get a refund through my credit card.

UPS knows exactly where it is, just isn’t worth enough for them to deal with it. If Cope b!tches enough they’ll pay him his actual cost for the part plus shipping, not what it sold for.
I’m fighting with FedEx right now over a part I need desperately. They delivered it on the other side of town but insist that’s where I am.

I haven't had to file for a refund on a cc transaction before, I'm sure that's pleasant too but I bet that's where I end up.

If I knew which one of these fine neighbors of mine received it and didn't have the decency to let me know I'd probably end up in trouble.

if your doing it all via email..stop and call, youd be suprised at how fast UPS will fix shit over the phone..even if they state "investigation closed"

I tried the phone last night. The recording told me "a customer service rep will not be able to help you" but I carried on anyway. Nothing against foreign call centers, but incompetence knows no boundaries. The rep told me I'd have to wait for "one two three four five six" days or at least I think that's what he said. He also said he had reopened the claim. He did not, it is still closed per the web site.

I'm calling Cope today. UPS isn't going to try to find it, so my next recourse is to get a replacement shipped or a refund. Failing that, the final step is a credit card charge back. Also, he is UPS' customer, not me. I'm just the poor bastard stuck in the middle.

I almost missed this.

I'll try to figure out more on the truck once I finish everything that's keeping me away from it right now :)

It's got a long shifter handle and a long throw. It's not bad though, I haven't driven a manual for 15 years or so but picked right up where I left off driving it home. I really like the truck - don't like the rust on the cab but it's not unibody, and patch panels are apparently available.

Also, I don't think I even mentioned the year - 1999. In my mind, Dakotas and Durangos are mostly all the same so one with this bodystyle is the same whether it's a 97 or an 04.

I bought this one specifically because it is 2wd and it's stock. Less complications, more better. Gina's got a Forester if we need to drive in the snow or off road. It's a perfect truck for what we need. Once I've got it safe and reliable, I'll probably sell my GTI. I don't have to drive at all unless I want to. My life is mostly here.

One last thing about the truck - the FB marketplace ad listed it at $4000 with 17,000 miles. I asked - is the mileage correct? He replied 17,000. Which I though was weird and kind of wonder if that wasn't some FB software magic trick. But anyway the truck has 170,000 miles on it. The guy was totally full of shit, but I was buying the truck, not his story.

Also he was packing a pink Glock. LOL. The price/mileage combo had made me leery of it being some kind of scam. Where the deal happened, I didn't think we'd be killed or anything and of course you always think about tweakers, so we accepted the risk.

UPS tried to call but of course I couldn't get to the phone. When I called back on that number, I got a message telling me it was UPS but I can't call in on that number.

So I called the general 800 number and went through the phone tree again. The first time I asked for "customer service" after feeding it the tracking number and it basically said nope and hung up on me. So I called back and went one step past the prior time. I was at a prompt "is there anything else we can do for you" and I said "yeah go screw yourself" and it went directly to the main menu. The nice lady I spoke to after that said they would call back once they were sure I wouldn't be available to answer the phone.

I'm going to end up on a UPS blacklist before it's over. No packages for you!

At this point in the UPS tale, I'd be talking to Cope. They're the only ones that can file the claim, and if indeed the item has vanished into the ether they'll be reimbursed fully by UPS--the price you paid for the part and their cost on shipping (if they mark up shipping, that's on them... also, it's illegal). They didn't lose a wholesale part, they lost a retail one.

FedEx now uses a photograph of the item where they left it as proof of delivery. Good idea.

Your truck should have an AX15 in it being a '99. That was the last year for it. in '00 apparently they switched to the NV3550.

I called Cope this morning, he promised that he or his wife (in charge of things like that) would call me before COB today.

If you have never talked to John Cope, I'll just say it's interesting and leave it at that.

DoorDash takes a photo of the delivery also. I agree it's a good idea.

UPS just called. They've got GPS tracking where it was scanned a few doors up on the other side of the street. I had a feeling it would be there - rental townhouses. They're planning to send a driver out to try and find it.

thats good cause when they dont find it they should refund you...ive had this issue many times with ups and fedex both

I think UPS is about as excited about knocking on doors to find the package as I am. They have admitted it wasn't delivered here though.

which makes them liable for the non delivery
They're liable anyway, they admitted it on the phone.

Cope already shipped a new part so I guess UPS isn't going to spend a nickel tracking down that $100 loss for them (in the big scheme of things)

UPS just showed up with the original one. It was on my psycho bitch neighbor's porch. She's got cameras and had to know it was there. It was soaked through, but the parts are in a sealed baggie so no damage.

Now to unroll all this with Cope.
