My 71 Duster work in progress

This is amazing. Saturday the part shows up, I catch the guy before he walks off and tell him I need to refuse the shipment. He looked at me about like a dog looks at me when I'm talking to it. But he took the package with him when he left.

Today they brought it back, and this time he got away. I got to the door just as he shut his door and hollered at him. He waved and took off faster than he should have.

Now I'm at a loss on what to do besides find the cheapest way to send it back and pay for it myself.

I just noticed, they wrote "refused" on the package.

The automated system told me I signed for it.

contact whoever you ordered it from and find out if they even want it back..10-1 odds are they dont

common practice these days is when in doubt ship another out..customer has 23..tell em to keep it or toss it in the trash...its too much of a loss to eat shipping both ways and often times returns just end up going straight in the trash anyway

I ordered 2 faucet stems from amazon, came from 2 different places, I ordered the wrong parts, when my son went to return them 1 said keep it the other said send it back
so you have a 50 50 chance?

I would've gone down to the nearset UPS depot and said, "I refused this on Saturday. Why did you deliver it again today? Send it back as refused." It's not like the depot workers can run away.

They want it back. It's a $100 part, nothing about it that would make them toss it in the trash.

I called UPS and supposedly they've scheduled a pick up so it's back on the porch for now.

Yeah I've got the "just keep it" from Amazon too. John Cope isn't exactly on the fortune 100 list, so he needs it back.

The nearest depot isn't that near. Supposedly they're going to send a truck to pick it up so it's on the porch.

For once these yappy dogs paid off. They were carrying on over the UPS truck at a neighbor's house, then it turned up the road beside my house to another neighbor. I caught up and handed it to the driver.

Apparently the one YouTuber referred to it as a "Bellevue" spring because it'll drive you to the mental ward.

At no point in the future can you say your chosen deity didn't provide signs that you should go 4-speed. :D

Remember, I grew up on Bellevue road so there you go.

I've got a lot of what I need to go 4-speed behind the 440 but the headers won't work and I'm not interested in trying to fab up some sort of hydraulic system. From what I've seen it doesn't look as easy as it could be. Once I've got the AT back together, that's pretty much as hard as it gets.

But those 4-speed parts are what keeps the idea of a small block whispering in my ear.

You know, one thing that keeps gnawing at me is to get this 440 in the Duster I might end up needing to swap to manual steering. A B engine is more suitable, anyway you look at it.

I keep forgetting that there's at least two 400s disassembled that came with this car but I never picked up because the woman I bought them from is always at work and is sort of a hermit - doesn't want people in her house.

Gina pinged her trying to get us in to pick all that up this weekend. (they used to work together) If I can get that and find a capable machine shop, Bob's your uncle. Tempting to go big with a 500 but rational me thinks a 451 is enough. But first, I have to get in that garage and get my blocks.

I'm not totally poor so I would save myself the headache of searching for parts and just get one of the 440 source $2500 kits.

Man it sure does add up fast though. I actually just visited Carvana and got an $18k offer for my GTI

I feel like I can rely on the Dakota for no more than I drive so I might just take them up on it. They're not close so I have to drive it to them in Louisville (200 miles). I might take it by the local VW dealer and see if they're interested.

Well that was short lived. Lady said not until spring. Apparently she had some sort of disaster that flooded the basement and in the process the garage had a bunch of junk household goods piled up in front of my engine parts. So the doors have to go up and I guess I get to clean out her garage just to get to those blocks.

My luck continues. A valve body has 10 bolts, mine has 9 because one of the bolt holes wasn't punched through the plate.

Cheetah that was installed is on top, the Coan is on the bottom. Note the middle hole on the edge of both.

I'm unsure if I can get away with leaving that bolt out. Don't want to start in drilling on it unless I take it all apart so there's no way I get metal shavings where they shouldn't be. Don't want to take it apart because with my luck I will end up losing or misplacing parts.

I would call and ask Coan. Call, don't e-mail. It's hard to miss a ringing phone.

Offer to send them that photo in an e-mail; it'll end up being the first one they open this week.

I'm going to call them first thing. I had it for sale, am now glad nobody bought it because it would've come back to me, not Coan.

If I'm thinking straight, it's actually worse than just a missing bolt hole. It looks like there's another hole on that side that is missing compared to the Cheetah. I hit that hole with air and it doesn't seem to go anywhere that I can tell but it's open and comes out of the case and into the Cheetah VB. It's hard to imagine the Coan wouldn't have a hole there too, but I'll find out tomorrow.

I've still got the original receipt from when I bought it in 2014. Hopefully it's just a matter of swapping the plate.

I started sorting through the 4-speed parts I've got out there and am starting to think since I'm going to have the K-frame out no matter what, how big of a deal would it be to put in a hydraulic clutch system while the engine bay is empty. (The Schumacher headers won't work with a Z-bar). Or, change to TTI headers that *do* work with a Z-bar, and swap in a manual steering box because they don't work with power steering. Either way it's about a $500 hit to my wallet, plus clutch, PP, flywheel, etc.
