84 Crewcab...AKA..Patches

of all of the "plastic" grills from when they started untill the body changed thats the ONLY one i like...

hell of a job on the repair..i feel for your poor fingers ..those kinds of repairs are a PITA but oooooh soooo worth it

So up to the weekend....I pulled everything off the front.

Then installed my new rad support.

And if you recall I modified my rad support just a little to fit my Non-IC, down flow rad. I only needed to add a small "bushing" on the bottom bolts below the rad, I used some 5/8" heater hose. Now I don't have to worry about it hitting those bolts and rubbing through the lower tank.

I then had to make up some brackets to hold the rad in place. I used some box braces from a mid 90's chevy pick-up. I liked theses because the ends were threaded and ran a good sized bolt.

I then had to cut, bend and modify the pieces to get them where I wanted. A little welding and grinding had them ready to go.

The lower mounts I had to drill a new hole in the rad support, then make the brackets. But I had to run an additional washer on the bracket so that the lower mounting mount, that usually slips down over an already threaded bolt, would not bend and twist out of the way....I figured this out the hard way.

And a couple more pics of the rad all installed and ready to go.

And the final pic...all done.

That looks terrific! No cracks in the chrome, either. The aftermarket grille was the right choice, since the early pickups already have DODGE on the hood.

Thanks Guys....I'm pretty happy with the new look...bit of a change from the day I brought it home.:)

That gap in the driveway sections seems to have gotten a bit bigger. :hmmm:

OK, I noticed the ram on the hood in the before pic, and gone on the after pic. What happened to it? You still got it? If so and you don't want it, I DO! :)

Holy crap.....nit picking ninnies.....:D

You're right. The paint on the house made a ton of difference.:D

He you noticed...yup worked hard getting most of the house done before winter....Thanks!

and that yards gotten neglected!

That's my neighbors yard, so I'll let him know your disappointed....:)

What do except from 3 tons sitting on that panel every day.....

It's yours Fishy if you want it. Next time I'm down that way I will bring it with me. So find me that 4bt cummins motor for a good price and it will give me a reason to deliver your rams head....:D

I used to do those "Find 6 differences within these two pictures" things in the Sunday paper quite a bit. :p Great way to kill time at work on a half hour lunch.

Well I've been looking for a Dana 70, with 354's, to replace the old 84 Gasser Dana 60 that is in the crewcab. Priced out one..non LS from the local truck wrecking yard....$1600!! I laughed in their face. Then a couple parts guys who wanted $800-900 for one.

Then I came across a guy parting a 1st gen on craigslist. Called him and asked if he had a Dana 70 with 354's. He said call back in 30 minutes and he'd let me know. Turned out he had one from a 93, Dana 70, 354's AND limited slip!! Asked him how much...expecting around $800...he says $400!! I went to pick it up and I got the U-joint straps and bolts, and the lower shock plates.....Couldn't be happier!!

So here it is....

Going to pull replace all the seals....new synthetic fluid...and re/re the brakes. Hope to have it in the truck before spring. Speaking of springs I now need to order a new set of rear springs....since I saved so much on the axle. ;)

or atleast one like my dog...a truck with a vin that matches the title but little left on the truck that it came with from the factory......course i doubt anyone will go as far as i did intentionaly

you f-ing stole that rearend cow and you know it...go back and give that guy a case of beer

Going by the drums, that looks like it's a dually axle... are you sure it's going to work? It might put the wheels too far out.

Look at the lugnuts, Doc.
There's no way there is 5/8" studs under those, plus the spring pad isn't far enough inboard for a dually axle.

Mark.
