72 Challenger R/T/A

Thaty sounds cool. I havent gotten the FG doors yet. That part of the project probably wont be happening until I get back to the US (late '06 -early '07). For now I'm just planning to cut the crash bars out of the stock doors to lighten them up.

More parts alert!!!

Talked to 440 Source today. The pistons came in Monday and the whole batch got shipped out yesterday.

Called Indy and got a few more pieces for the engine today:
- MSD Billet Distributor
- MSD Plug Wires (90 deg)
- MSD 6AL
- MSD Coil
- Aluminum water pump housing with a bolt on electric pump
* This is a new item they are offering at an introductory price of $240 complete. Any of you that have shopped for electric water pumps that bolt to stock type housings know that is the usual starting price for just the pump itself. This is for both the pump and housing together! I hope it doesn't suck ass.

I also got a bunch of sheet metal getting shipped over:
- Driver side 3/4 quarter panel
- Driver side outer wheel house
- Passenger side forward lower quarter patch panel
- Passenger side rear lower quarterr patch panel
- Driver side rear floor
- Passenger side rear floor
- Driver side extended front floor
- Passenger side extended front floor
- Driver side trunk floor extension
- Passenger side trunk floor extension

If what I'm told is true, all this stuff should get there by the end of this week or early next week at the latest.:calvin:

I tore down the 440 this last week. No major suprises there. I dropped the block off at a local machine shop Wednesday. I sent the crank, mains, rods, pistons, rings and bearings with it so they could balance it and align bore it. It should all be completed and back by this coming Wednesday.

I stripped a bunch of stuff off the car this past week as well. I removed the fenders, grill, bumpers, hood and interior. Next week I'll try to get some sheet metal installed.

And where might the pics be??????????? Rich!

Looks like you guys are gonna have to wait till I can get back to the Island before I can post the pics. I'm having trouble using Marks computer and internet connection so just text from me for the next week. I'll edit the posts to add the pics where necessary.

I talked to the machine shop and the 512 is on schedule to be ready on Wednesday. I'm having them get me a gasket set for it so I can start putting everything together the same day. Today (yesterday?? cut me some slack will ya, it's 1:40am  ) I picked up some carb studs, header bolts, air filter stud and engine paint.

When I got back to Mark's place I cut out the floor on the passenger side and got the new metal lined up. Tomorrow (today??) we'll weld the new stuff in and start working on the driver side floor. Were both working on the R/T/A together to try and get that side installed and welded as well before we turn the lights out.

I'll try to get online tomorrow night to post another update. Maybe I'll be able to figure out a way to get some pics posted so you'll get off my back ;):D

We got the passenger side floor welded in completely today. After that Mark had to go pick up a washing machine out in town. In order to keep making progress I went ahead and cut off the driver side quarter panel, outer wheelhouse and trunk extension. While I was working back there I also unbolted the gas tank and a bunch of little brackets and stuff under the trunk floor. When that was finished I painted the new water pump and oil pump.

Because you're demented like the rest of us????

Thursday we got the driver side floor welded in. After that we went to the machine shop and picked up the block and stuff. We caught a small (20-30 car) car show on the way back home. They had a nice Ramchargers replica and a Pro Street cuda (both 440's) there but the rest was mostly chebby and ferd crap. After we got back and and had dinner I got onto bolting the crank in. I called it a night around 1:30 am after I finished torquing the mains.

Friday morning I was putting together and dropping in the rods and pistons. then in the afternoon Mark and I started figuring out how to do minitubs on the R/T/A. We ended up moving the inner wheelhouse 1.5" towards the center. I'm hoping to make room for at least 315's in there with a spring relocator kit.

Saturday: No work done to the car today except swapping the pass door from the parts car. I'm outta time and have too much left to do on the 512 so I'm just gonna button it up to keep it clean for now. Don and greg stopped by to pick up the leftovers from the 440. Little did they know they would be used to help toss the assembled motor around the barn :D .

Lotta day ja vous going on here with the floor pan job, wish I could say the same for the engine, looking awsome! Rich.

That engine is looking pretty spiffy. What colour is that you've painted it?
Like you can't tell......BLUE

(I'll let Paul field this question....:toot: )

The pics make it look like a pale blue. But really umm, well, uh .... it's Ferd Blue.[smilie=f:It's a bright blue actually like the pic of the water pump housing without the electric pump in it.. I gotta go with what I like and I just like that color. All the engines I've rebuilt have ended up with that hue on it. Even VW's and Honda's:dance: .

Ford Blue?[smilie=2: You better lay off all of that Puerto Rican Rum!:dgt:

:D J/K Paul, sure is a nice looking power plant you have there!
