What are you working on?

Yes. It currently has a booster. I'll get it sorted during the long weekend, if nothing else comes up with the house or fiance or or or...[smilie=f:

Need more hours in a day

I haven't yet experienced a Mopar with a leaking booster that could not be heard inside the car as a clear hiss during braking. The only environmental sealing on the back of the booster diaphragm is the pushrod boot, and air gets pulled past that pretty easily.

this....ooooodles and oodles of body work..but..allmost all of the metal work is behind me...finish up the rear duck tail and fender flares and it will be primer and filler time...ive been quite enjoying the work too

side note....
if anyone has any ideas for tail lights SPEAK UP!!!!!...looking for something that wont look like trailer lights..im currently leaning tward 1970-75 jag xj6 turned sideways....the space is slimmer than it looks(right around 4-5 inches max)

Looks like fun. :)

Jag lights might be a very good fit.

Where is the guard on that yellow grinder?????

Right off the bat I thought, "1969 Barracuda taillamps flipped upside down" but I expect they're too large for the spot. The shape's nearly perfect, though. Nothing else comes to mind immediately, though, other than something custom. To my eye, you've got to find something that works with that shape. Cutting and grinding plastic sucks, but maybe if you start with something large (3rd-generation GM F-body springs to mind) you could figure out a shape cut the lenses to size. You won't have a perfect, ready-made housing but the housing doesn't have to be perfect, just a little smaller than the lens itself--nor does the shape have to be exact.

belive me 67 and 69 both came to mind..but are massivly too large..ive wandered all of the "old" wreckers hunting for ideas...and have turned to ebay....the "early" 50s ford pickups have a lense that would have looked beautifull in there turned on their side...but..1 inch too large...belive me cutting them down the centerline to shrink them still sticks in my head....another option i looked into was 70s honda bike lights as they have a similare curve with point going on

at this point ive randomly hunted 50'-70's and very little looks like it may work..save for the early 70s jag with its "teardrop" ish look...im not sold its "right" thus im hoping someone may have a solid idea

as for the major "race" body work..ive been drawing from other generations of alfa and following my instincts and 70/80s imsa styling..and i feel like i nailed it the flares are heavily modified 280z jdm pieces everything else is hand formed...the jag gas cap was a bitch to get right...i block bucked it and couldnt get it to sit as low as i wanted due to opening angle and body smackage

its the first thing that ALWAYS comes off cause its ALWAYS in my way..yes..i am aware of the dangers
A long time ago I had the toe of my work boot sliced off by a cut-off disc coming apart... kept my toes but it scared the shit out of me! I did NOT want to hear any Kunta Kintai jokes at my expense...
I disable most safety features like those stupid trigger locks, but never, ever, ever will I take off a guard on an electric grinder.
Be safe, Man!

ive had many a disc fly apart..been hurt by them..and at one time loved my guards..over time they got in the way with a vengance .. now im VERY paticular about my discs now..i have 1 brand and 1 brand only...my breakage rate is 1 in 100+ and its ALWAYS in a bind up situation or cuting aluminum and is never more than a "chunk" useualy smaller than a nickle never as big as quarter its always just a "chip off"..the discs are TOUGH..the amount of fiber in them is amazing "pearl abrasives" ...also on that note..i use cut off wheels for general cleanup and shaping as i have a VERY light touch with them and can shape most anything with one and then do my final with a flapper "if" i need em,,,ive actualy worn grooves in them down to the fibers and then worked em hard..they just dont like to break or let go...by far the safest disc's ive ever used

tough enuf that most "oops the grinder fell off of where i put it" doesnt break the disc

"pearl abrasive co"
cw4510
a46t

they dont show up on ebay..i get em localy..i NEED to find out how to get them in bulk direct..but the machine shop(farming machine shop) gets em for me at a discount...the guys in the shop there wont use anything else

Or 240Z tail lights...

Yeah hard to tell in the pics how big those taillights might be...but sure look more then 4". That is going to be a tough one. I think of pinto, maverick tail lights...but don't think they would suit the car.

Just throwin' this idea out there. No, I don't have spares, but the '72-'74 lights are generally pretty inexpensive since they're rarely damaged and the lenses are even-more rarely cracked, crazed, or faded. Top to bottom across the outside of the beveled edge is almost exactly 4.75", while length across the same surface is around 9.5". The actual lens and reflector size is much smaller and just the recessed area is a scosche over 4" across. A clever fella like yourself could pretty easily use just the backup lenses rather than all four, and make a divider to separate the white part of the lens from the red part as far as illumination from the inside goes. You could even use amber bulbs in the white area as a separate turn-signal filament, assuming you've got somewhere else to go for backup lamps ('69-'70 Charger units spring to mind there, down in the valance). You'd just have to work out how to illuminate the separate sections, as these housings are single-lamp units and the factory bulbs install from the bottom rather than the back.

The only real drawback is you're working with pot metal. Very heavy, strong pot metal but pot metal nonetheless. I've never tried to work with the stuff so soldering, bonding, etc. is out of my area of expertise.

This idea, of course, also brought to mind 1970 Barracuda taillamps, which could be inverted since the shape of your tail panel is almost an upside-down E-body unit. Those install behind the tail panel, too, so you'd merely have to cut holes and figure out the mounting. Well, that and spring some coin for the lamps themselves. They're a lot more expensive than the ones for my car, which often sell for well under $100/set--I've seen 'em as low as $50/pr. "Buy it Now" on eßay. You could also use the tragic '72-'74 Barracuda tails, but you said you didn't want something that looks like trailer lights. :D

Update on my Swinger issue of not idling after it warms up and random drivability issues...

Carb was a bit loose on the manifold, so tightened it up and it was a bit better for awhile, then started idling like crap again.

Pulled out the idle mixture screws wit engine running and liberally sprayed carb cleaner through the holes while occasionally plugging the carb with my hand until it almost stalled. Rinse, repeat.

Took it on a few long drive since then, and everything seems to be fine now. Crap in the idle circuit and vacuum leaks...

One of those trips took me to a local museum which was having a car show :-)
