What are you working on?

Looking good Stretch! And I can kind of believe that an NOS sender could be found for the Oakland...not a ton of people restoring Oaklands, so that betters your odds of finding one. ;)

I picked up a 6Volt fuel pump for priming the system. The mechanical pump will draw through this pump once the car is running. (Many of the guys on the AACA Forum are using the same pump for the same purpose with no issues). I ran the fuel line and installed the front springs and axle beam. I also installed the rear springs and differential housing.

Oh! I also picked up a new tool and if PHOCKING ROCKS!!! Wish I would have bought one years ago!

It's not a bender. It will straighten coiled line. It makes it so straight you can roll it down a flat surface and it will not wobble. It will straighten 3/16" up to 1/2" line.

you must have lots of faith with one bolt and no nuts holding the leafspring on

Looking pretty good Stretch. Clean and neat, as it should be.
You'll soon be finding yourself turning away customers if that's the caliber of work you do... you won't have time to work for them all!

Those tubing straighteners are something else. I use to run the tubing through my slip roller but it only had three rollers and it took some time to get things tickity-boo.

Wow. Thank you. That really means a lot coming from you.

I'm by no means a professional. I'm just picky and a touch anal about how things should be done. I have a hard time being satisfied with my work. I'm my own worst critic.

It cant go anywhere and I wanted to get the diff set in there. I have two spring pins that are damaged and I'm waiting for the new ones I'm having made.

You're very welcome. Good work is a dying art and there's nothing wrong with being picky and/or anal when doing it.

Keep your billing reasonable - but not low - and you'll never run out of work. :)

Tonight I started restoring/ rebuilding the shocks. Wowsers are they rusty inside.

I've often wondered what was inside of those knee-action jobbers. They're nothing but a master cylinder with no outlet. :hmmm:

So they are filled with grease? And it's the compression of the grease that limits the piston travel?

No they have oil in them. I'm not 100% sure how the work yet. I'm kind of learning as I go on this one. The "grease fitting" looking thing is a valve. There is a spring and a cap that cover that. I'm guessing that valve and the two springs have more to do with the damping than anything.

On to the rear axle wheel bearings. The wheel bearing is packed with grease and is set up much like a MOPAR 8 3/4 diff. It uses a oil seal in the tube and a grease seal on the outside of the bearing. Wait until you guys see this crazy shit! The inner oil seals are bad. To replace them you must remove the outer seal and the wheel bearing. None of these parts are in production anymore. Yes, I once again found N.O.S. parts! Damn near $400.00 worth of seals & bearings.

I had a good couple of days on the old girl this weekend. I'm finally feeling good for a change. I sand blasted a few more parts and got them painted tonight too.

Ahhhhh....the days of flat roller bearings and felt seals. When every driveway had specific grease spots and hiways were all black.
