What are you working on?

Thanks Resto. I'm by no means a pro painter. This is the 2nd time I've ever used a spray gun. I really appreciate your advice and complements.

im litteraly looking at one of these..1500$

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Snap-on-mid...1232784320&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

while ive got a 2post up at the farm this would stay home...since most of my body work and "light" duty stuff is done here i figured..hell it might be worth the money....if resto says he loves it i think im sold..the fact that you like your stretch just makes me like the idea that much more

the story i got is the mans father bought it NEW "off the truck" and used it mostly as a bench and the things probably only been up/down a dozen times at best useing it to build stuff at his working height....

ill be going to have a look sometime this week/weekend...if anyone has anything i should look at it specificly let me know

that frames lookin SWEET...how do you like shooting into the "odd" spots.....i know i bloody HATE it..bike frames are MUCH worse for that but its still the same probklem

The Wheeltronics/Snap-On equipment is top shelf stuff. Both of the two posts I had at the shop were Wheeltronics-built.
Check all the pivot points for wear, check the castors for rust or flat spots, check the ram for leaks and scratches on the chrome and make sure the pump is quiet and full of oil. Other than that... :)

Stretch, frames and suspension parts are the best places to get used to spray guns. Looks like you pay attention to what you're doing. :)

I spent a year refinishing heavy construction and equipment. Try spraying a Case 580E, a road grader or a couple of paving machine for kicks and giggles. By yourself... ;)

resto i can imagine trying to do heavy equipment....given the chance i want to shoot my michigain 175a this year....while a grader has a TON of cranys ...but...equipmnet doesnt have to be "perfect"..i can respect the uber pain in the ass

a honda z50 frame..even with a touchup gun is a NIGHTMARE when you start looking at all the weird angles and rolling the frame like its in a gyro to try and get all the tiny spots without a run or sag

Hah! Most of it was under careful scrutiny - the construction company did most of the surface work on the Bluewater Bridge twinning here in the 90s. Almost every piece we painted ended up in glossy handouts for trade shows for several years. The contract was worth over $100k - it ALL had to look good. That company still uses the equipment photos in tendering for new work.
Try spraying with a pressure pot for 6 hours a day, up, down, end to end, side to side... all by yourself. THEN having to clean the equipment and get it ready for the next job. Uber pain in the ass doesn't even come close. :(

Piss-ant stuff like bike frames are a walk in the park. :)

pressure pot painting..oh hell no
show quality equipment OUCH
The pressure pot doesn't mean anything, it's the gun and the painter that makes the difference... in this case it was me and a Graco Delta Spray HVLP.

OK, it was the gun that made the difference. :) Took awhile to set the gun up but once set, Oh Man! It's an excellent gun with the siphon feed pot, but connect it to pressure and it becomes infinitely adjustable and capable. The pressure system is long gone but I've held onto the gun itself, it's that nice.

I've got a shitload of pics but they're all on 35mm. If I can remember to dig them out I'll copy and post some of them.

Why, it's just an air supply... only the paint is pressurized.

You do lose some of the primary benefits of the HVLP gun - low pressure spraying - but the atomization and versatility gained from the great gun and the ability to move it wherever needed more than makes up for any loss. Not to mention eliminating the need to stop and re-load the gun every 10 minutes... or being able to spray with the gun completely upside down. :) Makes the nooks, crannies and skinny parts easy.
A higher pressure is required for single layer over vast areas, but still it works out to roughly only 15psi at the nozzle. Melt-in is better with slightly higher pressure on big jobs...
Fantastic set-up for OTR tractors and trailers!

I used to use my DeVilbiss JGA on the pot, but found the Graco sprayed much better.

It was a bitch to get in the corners. The hardest part was the rear of the frame on the underside. The gas tank gussets and cross members were a challenge but I have a small detail gun. It made those areas a lot easier.

The only real problem I had was when I first started I didn't have the lid screwed on the gun tight and when I was tipping it up to paint the underside of the frame I spilled black chassis paint down my arm. On the bright side it made my forearm look huge and it will not rust out anytime soon. :D

Thanks for the complements guys! I am by no means good at painting! I need a lot more practice before I'm ready to do any painting that shows. A lot more!

I'm working on rearranging the corner of the basement where I have all my guitar gear setup/stored.

went and pulled the trigger..rollers are nice but dragging 1500+lbs of iron around to my shop was UGH solo it took me a good 20 mins...asphalt is not smooth lol

in place setup and inuse allready lol.i should note that the lift can go up an aditional 6 inches or so but.....the car would be smacking the garage door....im very pleased

its dusty note the finger swipe in the last shot lol...ZERO leaks hoses all good...and the scratches the underside i think were all done by me getting it on/off the trailer....the top deck could use paint but i dont think the car mounts have EVER been used...honestly i dont think its ever actualy lifted a car

and after spending some time in the long since gone mans shop...i belive what i was told about it being an expensive metal bench......the 340 powered fiat wouldnt have fit...and the full boogy drag MERCEDES?!?!?!?!?? wouldnt have fit either

ill be heading back up neer the end of feb to talk with the son about some more equipment thats in there....and take planty of pics of the toys

Awesome!
You'll find yourself wondering how you ever did anything before you got it, and then wishing you had bought one years earlier.

:)

i allready find myself that way with the 2post on the 40....but...the posts piss me off constantly...especialy when doing body related or anything i need to open the door for....i suspect this lil bastard will solve all of my complaints.....

ive figured..the only things i cant really do with it is "traditional" RWD trans, drivelines and exhaust.....course my alfas the trans is in the back so no issue(no wonder the porsche guys love these things) and anything i do FWD is a no issue...and my micro cars fit like a glove..and bikes too...so really theres no down side imo

Nice! Your going to love that thing. I use the shit out of mine. I use it for everything from our cars. My truck. My ATV's and snowmobile, The lawn tractor, snow blower, I use i as a work surface/ bench.

It's crazy just how much I use it really.

Nice score!

i felt bad about the price initialy..with "cheep" new ones running just under 2k round here..then i hunted ebay for the snapon units and they were all 2k+ for REALLY used ones that looked to be needing serviced...made me feel like i kinda got it cheep

That is a very cool unit...congrats on getting it.

I know what it's like trying to drag something big down, in and around....;) I dragged this big Oak tree from teh front of the house, down the side, and across to the far side of my back yard by myself.

What is with the block and tackle. I thought you would have carried that by yourself.
