I'm working on my desktop PC. I got bored and decided I'd swap out the old, questionable power supply. I grabbed another one off the shelf and installed it, but during the process the front-panel connectors got disconnected. I reconnected them and tried to power it, the Power LED flashed on for a split second, the CPU fan turned for a split second, then nothing. So, I looked up the manual online to make sure I have those tiny front-panel connectors correct. I even fidgeted with them, hooking them up differently. Still nothing. I think this power supply is totally dead but there could be a short somewhere on the motherboard causing it, too. I've run into that previously.
I don't mind using the laptop, but I have tons of files on the desktop and I wanted to work on some of them tonight. No such luck. I have a really good power supply here, but unfortunately it doesn't have the ATX "20+4" connector so I can't use it. Every other power supply I have is proprietary, it seems. I'm going to try swapping the old one back into the machine, at least that one works for an hour or so before it dies.
