What are you working on?

Today I rejigged the whole house for Sunday dinner for 17 people.

That involved moving the kitchen table into the living room and lining up that and the dining room table in a line and have them meet at the threshold between the two rooms. To do all of that, the coffee table had to go upstairs in the guest bedroom, the wingback chair had to be moved from the living room in to the dining room. A table and plant had to be shuffled from one side of the dining room to the other.
Then set up a 6 foot folding table in the kitchen for prep work space.

I also had to stash most of my guitars in my office so they'd be safe from flying kids hopped on chocolate. I left the ones in cases out in the rec room and three hanging on the wall. I also stashed all of my effects pedals - more to clean things up than to protect them.

Tomorrow I have to make up some place cards and work up a few magic tricks to freak out the kids. I think I should get a haircut and more booze, too.

I'm replacing rusted through core plugs in my buddys '98 4.0L TJ. WOW! Is this block rusty! Yes I said Block. I'll take some pics tomorrow.

Its fucking crazy man. A layer of the block is on my floor. I'm pounding a 13mm 6point socket on the heads of 3/8 bolts to get the fuckers out. The hex of the bolts are that rusted away! The exhaust studs are rusted off of the header, The exhaust flange is gone! Not even on the headpipe anymore. The intake and exhaust manifolds were a treat to pull. The bolts are 3/8 in the head but the threads are gone on the bolts right at the head and block threads. I cant believe the only bolt that broke is one that holds the serp. teninsioner to the water pump.

Yikes. It sounds like it's a salt-bath proving-grounds mule. It shouldn't be anywhere near that bad after 15 years.

I hope the pics I take tomorrow show just how bad it really is. I used the shop vac to clean up most of the rust scale on the block before I pulled the intake and header. I had all of the bolts out of the intake and had to beat it off of the head with a hamor and a prybar. It was stuck to the damn thing! It's astounding just how rusty this thing is. The damn gasket was even rusty!

Cleaned and organized the garage along with working on the stock car.

Here are some pics of the 4.0 jeep engine I changed the core plugs in. i don't know how well the pics will show the amount of rust on the block or the bolts but remember the core plugs rusted from the outside in. The cooling system was top notch inside. The bolts are 3/8 bolts. One would thing they would require a 9/16 socket to remove them. I had to pound a 13mm socket on them to get them out!

This is the rust that was falling off of the side of the block as I was removing the old core plugs and installing the new ones. I vacuumed up about half that much when I was working on it.

That's not gonna fit in your packet..... it think.... I've never seen your pants, and I don't really want to, but this portable table thing has me curious. NOT THAT kinda curious.

You know Dippy...your shop doesn't look as big with all your stuff everywhere....:) Still I'm jealous.

And that rusty motor....man that is bad! Do you have salt water areas near you? Or maybe just lots of winter driving...and never any engine, motor wash downs?

we used to make portable tables like that out here in the RC racing cuircuts...this was quite normal...pull out some folding sawhorses pull everything out of the truck since the board was useualy on the bottom slide the board out on top of the horses and lay everything out then setup the 4post open side tent and prep for race day

Yeah, I know it ain't gonna fit in ma packet but least it's gonna lean 'gainst all pretty. :D

Cow, I could have built an aircraft hanger and it would still be too small. :D

69.5, that's exactly what I'm going to use it for. Engine building, transmission building, throw the sheet on those folding tables and boom, instant table!
