What are you working on?

Here is what i have been tinkering with lately in my spare time. made from some sheet steel and plasma cutter

The girlfriends late step dad had one of these hanging in his garage and someone stole it after he passed away (rip)... so my tinkering mind decided to bring one back to life. I sprayed some etching primer on it today after i sandblasted it.

I do not condone liking this team and i do not want anyone to "cheer" for them :)

GO LEAFS GO .... *runs and hides in embarrassment*

I've been mucking about with this huge POS VW Super Beetle Cabrio all summer.
Sitting since the early 90s, everything needed attention. What started out as a body & paint job morphed into a total re-do.
I like Bugs but this one tested my limits.
Worst of all was the F.I. system. State of the art in '78 (at least on a Beetle) it's hard nowadays to find any info on them, let alone parts. F.I. systems don't like to sit for long periods, and this one had to be coaxed back to life. A couple road trips saw the car returning on a flatbed... :( Fix one problem only to find two more.
Runs like a champ now. Finally.
I did everything on this car, from the body to the top to the interior to the F.I. work, with some help from a friend and my teenage son.
Now... I just need to get paid for it.

My other summer job is sitting in front of the Beetle, on the rotisserie. :)

All North American-destined Beetles after 1974 had single pipes. '75 was the first year for fuel injection as well. I think the single pipe had something to do with the catalytic converters, mandatory in some US states. VW being VW, it was easier to just make one muffler for every car and adapt the converter to it when required.
It sounds different than the old Beetles...

I'm currently fixing a VW myself at work there Resto. :D

2001 Golf GTI VR6, 2.8L 16 degree "V6", 6 speed stick.

Kid sucked water through his "cold air intake" which is situated about 4" from the ground inside the driver's wheel well where only have an inner fender liner can be found snapping #1 connecting rod.

Jass heard about this one. :D

Lots of money to spend on a 12 year old car?
Those VR6s are fairly quick.

Oh I've driven this car before as he is a good customer of ours and it is NO slowpoke. Not a hell of a lot of car to propel there.

It's an SGI Insurance claim. I think it's about $3600 so far.

I've seen LOTS of those "V-Dubs" in where I work as well. Usually just regular maintenance parts (lights, alts, starters...etc...) since we don't sell "speed parts" (I hate Auto Zone for that). Some of these kids have thousands into their cars and you can hear it when they pull into the lot!

Well I got some time in the garage yesterday and pulled the head off of Tina's Tracker. It's officially Junk! The pistons in cylinders 2 &3 are burnt. I can see about 2 inches of the compression ring on both of them on the intake side of the cylinder. I'll post pics later today. I didn't take any last night because I was to greasy to grab my camera and I need to get cleaned up. Chrissie and I took the kids to the county fair last night.

It was fun to watch Brian look at the farm animals and Carlee LOVED the pony ride! Even though I feel like shit I had a great time there. Holy hell is the food pricy there this year? $9.00 for a gyro??? $15.00 for a sampler plate??? $5.50 for a corn dog??? $5.00 for a funnel cake??? Yah... Umm...... No thanks!

Started working on my driprail on the crewcab...ground out the old sealant...found a bit of rust...now sealing things up until next year. Give me time to devise a plan of attack. Will post some pics and info in my build thread.

Tonight going to the Circ du soleil show.

2 fold...
picked up a job thru a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend.....a 64 cuda in need of an engine rebuild which is bound to snowball into alot of other things...the owner has had it since 88....its been sitting in a garage since 02..........

next up in the "g-sprint" and it looks like me and fishy will be cutting up a 83 gtv6 today for a chassis for it(think lloyd style swap only larger scale)

I've been working on DCF's Charger... no, it's not done yet. :(

Got most of the underside seam sealed and coated in black rocker guard, looks better than it should considering the amount of repairs done to this car. A casual eye will think it's never been touched.

Currently straightening the passenger side quarter and door - the CBD quarters lack somewhat in the "install and forget them" department, and the door had loads of filler covering some issues, courtesy of the last "bodyman".
It should be in high build by the end of tomorrow.

Camera woes are responsible for the lack of pics...

Which one you going to see? Our kids sent us to one in June.

Unfortunitly not a car, but I did yesterday, put a new starter in my sons 99 ram PU, let him put the new one in, took a few mineuts to get it lined up I helped with that stupid tranny line clamp. Of course it really didn't need a starter, found a bad connection on the neg battery cable & I think that killed the battery, pulled the battery I bought in 07 for the 74 cuda & it took a charge(hadn't been charged or used in about2 years) seems to be ok.
So my project is my main bath, had a leak around the window moulding a while back, tried to seal it up but the blue board was already giving a bit, really did NOT want to do this now, was trying to regrout a few tiles & she gave way, so it's gutted ,Got the reframing done yesterday & the cement backer board hopefully goes up tomorrow. after i get the measurements I'll order the tile, a week or so wait on that. Just one more thing i didn't need right now!
