Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Yo! 68 hows things going?
Wow , a lot changed for me since I posted the finished car up, tore down my HO train room to move Mom in with us, She's 92 now, still doing ok but not good enough to be in the house alone anymore.
In the process of selling the ole homestead (yea in the middle of Queens N.Y.) so with all that going on I didn't even list the car for sale yet.
Have cleaned up the 74 a bit but keep walking around it & can't figure out where to start. With no place to put parts till I sell the other one I just cover it back up & walk away, gotta get the ole mojo back!

there is a small project going on since I can work outside a bit now, decided to tackle the rust on the 05 PU. Cut out the nastyness, managed to get my hand & a brush in there to coat it with rustolium, after tons of money on por 15 & eastwood stuff with mixed results back to basics.

Cut my own patch, got it pretty close after 2 tries, then saw patch panels for 44 bucks, so I ordered those , metal actually seems a little thicker than the 20 gauge I was using for patches

Almost called mr340 lookin for my electric shears, but borrowed charger mans air shears to make the long cuts, trimmed with my snips & it actually cut easier than my 20 guage???
So I couldn't flange all the way down so I have some butt welding to do. just gotta wire wheel the welding areas & paint the back & it's ready to weld, hope I am it's been a while!

Good to see you keeping it in the family line. I have a 15 Ram Ecodiesel CC with 6'4" box. This along with an 11 Avenger with the 3.6l Pentastar.

Will have to upgrade one soon, the 07 charger only has 78K on it but it's starting to rust & fall apart , just have to decide if I get another charger or if I make a Challe my last car!

Glad to see you pop back in again 68. Been quite a while since you've been in. How's life treating you and your stable.
About 3-4 years ago I came up with the assinine idea that it would be cool to have a 68 Coronet of each body style in the same color. So I started searching interweb for a decent one. (I'm too old for another project) There's a lot of project cars out there, but the decent ones aren't for sale at a sane price. Eventually it boiled down to 2 possible 2dr hd tp's. One in NY state with a 318 auto, 100k miles still in the original family. But they thought that it was equal to a gold bullion. Eventually I decided to check one out down in TN. So Jr & I went down to check it out. It's a little more than I was really looking for. I would have been happy with a 383, but this is a Hemi clone. A pic of the three in my back yard can be seen here; https://www.moparnuts.com/forums/threads/so-lets-try-this-again.182695/post-774231

The engine is supposedly built by Don Garlits. I tried backtracking previous owners, made it to 3 before me. They all said the same thing. I then connected with Garlits and asked if there would be any markings I could look for. He said that all engines he built have markings on the crank. I'm not tearing it down to find out. There were a few small things that weren't 100% correct, but I spent one summer making changes. It's now a "correct" clone, except for a few things, like a very radical cam, headers that go halfway to the back of the car and larger carbs that total 1500cfm. If I don't get on it I can get 6 mpg. (race fuel blend) Stretch & Doc have ridden in it and were babbling idiots for a while:ROFLMAO:.

On the family side, Jr got a bachelors degree in electricical enginerding. For a couple of years he was designing high-tech equipment for ambulances, etc. Almost a year ago he was offered a job with Marretti Marrelli working at the Harley Davidson R&D plant in Milwaukee. He recently decided to buy his first house and get engaged to get married later this year.

Sounds like you better get ready to be a grandpa!
My Oldest just had his second, so I'm gramps twice over now, 2 boys, one 5 & the baby is 8 months .

My original idea was to do three, one for each son, now I have to sell the first for the money to do the second, I'll never live long enough to do a third, I can't even get motivated to get moving on the second & wonder if I'll ever actually finish it.

I retired about 9 1/2 years ago. I didn't do it for money but for health. I could feel myself on a downhill slide due to health and things started to turn around a month later due to the stress relief. I have 5 blood grandkids starting at 9 an down to 4 1/2 months. I also have an 11 year old step granddaughter. My car still isn't finished and I have lost the drive to do so. I am looking at selling it this summer. It's just a daily driver style but looks pretty good. All my family is currently within 3 1/2 blocks of our house. Youngest son is planning to move out next month but only has a girlfriend and no kids.

Sounds like a nice family, mine are fairly close, 15min. on the one with the kids, bout 30 min on # 2, # 3 is real close, one room over, lookin for a place with his girlfriend ( evidently not too hard!)
That will be my next train room(Dad's & my HO collection)

Man, I hope you're not planning on getting back all the labor you put into that '73... you'd have to get Hemi money or more! 😁

It's awesome to see it done (again) though. It looks great and you have my greatest respect for staying after it. I hoist my diet Coke to you, sir... I quit drinking almost 7 years ago, and much like 71dusterman, the difference in how I feel alone was well worth it. Paying off the house and increasing my tool collection was an added bonus.

However, I'd like to clarify: I believe Mr. 68 is mistaking Stretch and I for the babbling idiots Mike and Pete, friends of ours he graciously took for a hell-ride in the Hemi car. Hell, Pete still occasionally babbles about it while Mike tends more toward the speechless. Make no mistake, that car is fast... but Jason and I had both been in Hemi cars previously, and at least one of us was in an SS/A car. ;)

I knew from the beginning it would not be worth the cost, forget the labor, but I'm hopeful it will be worth more now then 7 or 8 years ago, gonna start at 27500 & hope to at least beat 20.
In the mean time I finished one side of the pickup, getting ready for blocking primer on the other, not bad for cutting a big corner & spray bombing it with rustolium!!!

The '73 looks excellent, Rusty!
Used to retirement yet?? The hours are great, but the money sucks! ;)

Good Gary, good.
Completely retired, still farting around with the Beetle when the weather co-operates.
Mostly wheelchair bound now - I've got 2 or 4 hours a day that I can handle on my feet, which is ok, 'cause like I said, I'm retired. :)
Son Dan bought a house last February, the next block over. A fixer-upper, for sure, but the little bugger got the financials worked out while holding down two minimum wage jobs, so we're extremely proud of his efforts. He moved in Nov 1 of last year. Not married, no kids, no current girl friend... so he's been able to sock some $$$ away.
Mrs. Resto is working at a long term care home, still. A scary place to be these days. So far, all is good.
We plan on a trip down your way whenever the world gets itself back together. Coffee?
