Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

K final question, well at least for today, I have that tranny shimmed up about 1/2" for the 1/8" or so I got at the real of the motor will they do more harm than good.
If I'm going to pull them out I'd like to do it now, once I drop the car back down I hope not to have to raise it again.

What say you guys?

Didn't get much done, a surprise visit from the grandkids!.....20240519_132923.jpgso carb is on just have to check the torque specs & hook up the linkage, so I tested the air cleaner, she's up high, it pushes up into the hood pad, gotta see if I can get a thinner element!

Now I get to see if I can figure out those A/C brackets!

So now I'm thinking of taking the shims under the tranny out, I have no idea what that will to the drive line & if the exhaust doesn't drop a lot leave them out.
Can't seem to find any info of what raising the tailshaft will do, good or bad?

It would change your drive line angles, but how much, I could not say.

Well that was a lot of work for pretty much nothing, I took out the shims at the tranny & dropped it down, pipes are still not quite 4" off the ground.20240520_135332.jpg
Jacked up they are perfect! I'm leaving it like that for 10 years, maybe they will conform to my desires! 20240520_141350.jpg

So I moved on to the A/C compressor install, even they had some of the hardware wrong, short 2 bolts of the size they specked in the instructions & others that were never asked for!
I got lucky & had the missing ones, now I have more extras? 20240520_162458.jpgSo I got it all mounted, putting in some of the hoses as I went, some look like impossible to get to now. 20240520_145615.jpgEverything is just snug at the moment, will find a belt before I tighten everything. 20240520_161900.jpg& after I lay out all the A/C lines I'll be able to cut the heater hoses to the proper length now that the bracket is in.20240520_161908.jpg

So they recommend a 54" belt, well mine are 54 & no where near long enough20240520_164452.jpg
not even sure ow many inches to add, any ideas on the lenght I should try?

K, ordered a set of moroso plug wires & a 2" high air filter element to try from summit, be here wed. I will hit autozone for a belt or 2 to test tomorrow.

That's a big help, I started out thinking the last two #'s were the size, then I measures my old around the outside & got 54, so it dawns on the dummy the middle #'s are the size, I have a cloth tape (well stealing from the wife) so I'm gonna try that around the pulleys, that should at least get me in the ballpark, then head to autozone & see what they have?
gonna be hot that may be all I get done.
Need to get it running again so I can finally pull it in the garage, I have A/C in there so my summer won't be wasted.
Also the stripe guy wants it inside to do the hocky stripe!

Wow, auto zone had nothing on the shelf bigger than about 48".
Soooooo, gotta go online & really don't want to deal with returns.

Here's what I'm thinking, you guys can tell me how wrong I am.

Measured around the pulleys, I come up with 56, with alternator as low as it will go, looks like about inch or two more of adjustment but the alt. bottoms out there.

Assuming there's no way I'm going to get a 56 on I'm thinking 2" bigger will clear it & not be too big to get it tight.
Am I in the ballpark?

I have had no luck trying to figure out belt lengths, ever.

I found this too, do not know if it's true or not.
So the belts you have are 7480 and 7370. The first 7 is the width of the belt, the last three numbers are the length. 48” and 37”. If they are 4” too long go buy a 7440 and 7330. If the number is 7485 it is 48.5” long. There are a number of water pump pulley dia. A/C, non A/C etc.

wires & air filter are due in tomorrow, belt not till friday, I'm trying the 58?
So 3 roasty toasty days I have nothing to do, guess I needed a break anyway!

If I knew how many inches short I was I'd have something to go by, Pulleys came out at 56, so 2" short for my belt, but with the alternator bottomed out I did not think I'd ever get a 56 on, so I'm hoping 58 will clear but not by too much to be able to tighten it up.
Guess I find out this weekend if it shows up friday?

to get the right width & depth belt I just used the gates # they suggested & changed only the length, hope that worked?

Wires & air filter arrived, if I can bear the heat I will play with those tomorrow & if the belt arrives fri & fits I can try & fire it up again & see if I made any progress on the vacuum issue, with this dang car I doubt it!

Holy crapoli, I can't even get plug wires right, they said 273 up to 360 MOPAR wires.
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see any way these connectors are going to make contact at the distributor, & not even sure the plug ones went down far enough?
Old ones stick out a bit, new ones are way down in the top of the boot! 20240523_171858.jpg
