Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

So I laid a straight edge across the bay & measured to the valve covers, drivers side is slightly lower in both front & rear, 1/8" or so.
Now I'm curious to see what if any changes the motor mounts make?
Hoping for at least a lift in the rear?
Did someone say hobbies are supposed to be fun!

Wow, nothing ever goes right with this car, parts came, one motor mount, so I can't do much for a couple more days.
Ordered the other, Bob, they are the same as B-body, says it right on the invoice.
Hope there's no left & right I just ordered one more!

So Jerry cut off some piece that keeps secondary from opening till warm, say that was the problem???
Gave me a couple of those little clips I lost, a new choke assembly & what he says is the proper gasket for that manifold?
20240515_131857.jpg& through in an air cleaner for my troubles, was gonna paint & put on the 360 decal, but if it cleans up nice I may just leave it alone?20240515_131903.jpg
may go ahead & try the drivers side with the good bolt, see how that job goes & get the measurements off the bolt while it's out?

I'm getting nowhere!

I didn't want to set up the hoist to do one mount, so I did the tranny mount shims to see what if any good they would do.

Well not much, it brought the back of the motor up 1/2 " & maybe the same where the exhaust goes past the crossmember, still an inch too low.

I checked the mount when I had it out, I think I had it slid in wrong, easy in & out, checked the old one & the marks seemed to be on the other sides, so I oiled it up & got it in the tight way, what if anything that did I have no idea? 20240515_150755.jpg
Found 2 bolts in marks stash that were 1/2" longer than the originals, 3 lugnut washers from the ole slots was right on the 1/2" height.

When I was jacking up he tranny it only had maybe another 1/2" before it hit up top, so I doubt I can go any higher.

If the motor mounts don't help anything I have no idea what to do next.

Maybe I get to live with low hanging exhaust system.

Taking the day off, don't even want to look at it, tomorrows supposed to be nice, the other mount is due in then, so I'll get started on that job. have no idea how much cursing I will be doing, hope not too too much!

Trying to find something that wouldn't make me crazy I figured I'd put on the new electric choke, even that I messed up a bit.
Noticed no tubing connection on the new one, so like a dummy I proceeded to try & remove it from the old, looked like here were threads in the new ones hole?
Well when I finally broke it I called Jery, he says the new ones didn't use it, hope he's right on that or I have another place for a vacuum leak!

air cleaner cleaned up ok, can use it for now. 20240516_152618.jpgIt also has a breather tube, if I recall I would connect that one to the breather on the valve cover I do have one with the port? 20240516_153325.jpg then I spent some time rereading the A/C install instructions, this too is gonna be fun. 20240516_153628.jpg

Tomorrow will be an epic adventure, first I will attempt the motor mounts, if that goes well put the fuel pump back in & move on to redoing the intake gaskets.
If all that goes well & doesn't take all day I can either do the carb or start on the compressor brackets, see how I feel at that point!

I had to remove the fuel pump that's the one that started to round over on me, drivers side I was ok, Mark had a nice offset box wrench that reached in between the parts where it bolts to the engine to hold the nuts, nothing I had could get to the lower nut.
It's nice having his stuff here He's got quite a tool box!

Well that wasn't easy, after a 5 1/2 hours which amounts to a marathon for this ole man the mounts are in, there are changes but not drastic enough to get the exhaust up much.
the mounts did show signs of possible tilt issues. 20240517_131108.jpg20240517_131658.jpgMark was over & helped the whole time, alone I'd be out there till midnight.

So here's the dramatic changes.
I'll do the pass. side

Started back of valve cover to straight edge 5"
Tranny shims 1/2" raised it to 4 7/8"
Motor mounts got it to 4 1/2"

So I gained 1/2" total at the back of the motor

It did however level the motor, drivers side is now the same, before it was about 1/4" lower.

Then before we tightened everything I again tried to move the tail shaft over a tad, still seems to settle back to the same spot, not as drastic as before all this, but the rubber still sticks out one side almost 1/2"
20240517_154020.jpg
Now I have no idea whether that is normal or not?

Next job is redoing the intake manifold gaskets!

I think I'm at the point if I got it up to 51/2 or 6" off the ground I may just say screw it, let the next owner mess with it!

I thought you stepped up to the expensive Lakewood mounts? Those say Anchor on them. Did you get got?

It looks like they were due for replacement anyway.

I did, they came in a lakewood box with a bunch of lakewood stickers in there.
Guess summits playing games? Should I call them & question what happened here?

But one thing for sure I'm not doing that again, it was an ordeal with the bay filled & the headers on.20240517_192125.jpg

I think it would be Lakewood that should answer for it.

At least you got stickers. (y)

Damn, went back to the summit site, lakewoods at 16.95, a few lines below were the ancors at 7& change, the part # is the same as the ones on my mount, 2250 I think I'm gonna call just for the heck of it & see what they say, might get to blow off some of the repressed steam building up in my head from this car!

Lakewood part # LAK24096lkw

Just called summit, as I figured they just pull a box off the shelf, so lakewood is the culprit, they did give me a 20 buck refund & said he would inform whoever deals with this stuff about the issue!

K before I start with the crazy stuff I took some pics of the exhaust as it sits with the car up in the air, 20240518_124640.jpg20240518_124649.jpgI got it up a little, hopefully whatever I got here & the inch I got the front end up that it will be livable?

She's still around 1" to 1 1/4 " low at the crossmember, TTI says 3/4" at that point! 20240518_124705.jpg

K I redid the intake today hope I didn't really screw it up.

left the cork gaskets out & put in the silicone, oh yea, thanks Bob for the too much is better comment, the extra tube I ordered had to be used to finish it off.

It seems to have squshed out front & back pretty good, hope a big glob didn't go into the engine?

Ran a finger along the edges.

I did do a no no, I glued down the center gaskets & before putting on the manifold I removed the 4 plastic retainers, nothing i the instructions about in or out on those, left them in the first time???

old gaskets20240518_154736.jpgdoes anything look awry here, old gaskets after I pulled the intake? 20240518_134110.jpg20240518_134132.jpg
at least everything looked moist in there. 20240518_134957.jpg
& of course I had to break something, one of the plug wires pulled out of the cap,
now I'm looking for conductor to crimp back in, seems to be none there, what is the conductor in these wires, do I just crimp around the outside rubber?? 20240518_155214.jpg20240518_155224.jpg
