Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Had no idea who they were till you mentioned some of the titles, then it was dang I know those guys!
Well, Quiet Riot remade Cum on Feel the Noize (with much success) and Mama Weer All Crazee Now back in 1983 and 1984 respectively, so those songs should be familiar to just about anyone around back then. The former still gets fairly-regular airplay on classic rock stations.

What happened, was nuts down I kept getting a 500 internal server notice, still can't get in the normal click on my icon, but that takes me to a line that has one of my posts & that gets me in, I did get the email notification of a post though???

'Nuts was down for nearly a week. I kept checking and got the same 500 error all week. DCF was a very busy girl this past week and wasn't able to give it the proper attention until this weekend, but all's well that ends well and here we are.

One of the reasons I posted my response about Quiet Riot was I figured if everything was working again, you'd get a notification. ;)

Yep. It was pooched and I was out at customers’ almost everyday or working to catch up after being out with customers.

The one thing I have left to fix should sort out your icon issue.
For now, if you use www.moparnuts.com/forums as the link, it will work.

I was getting nervous didn't know how I would finish the car without the good Dr's help.
I had his address in a conversation, so I didn't write it down!
I lost my local car guru so I've been flying by the seat of my pants.
I just wrote it down, just in case!

haven't done much on the car, was going to put in the rear panels till I noticed the sail panel had to go in first. I have those, headliner is on BO at year one. I have no Idea how to put them in, head liner guy will be here in spring, if the BO is filled, so I think I will order the under hood A/C kit so I have something to work on when it warms up a tad.

the alligator strip is behind it! 20240212_131338.jpgBut it does look good in there!20240212_131239.jpg

Weather & the sail panel deal has stopped progress on the car, Going stir crazy with not much to kill time.
The grand kids saved me for a couple of days, off from school so they spent Monday & Tuesday with us & brought along the pine box derby cars to be built!
Last year I got it to 4.9 oz. & he did well, I think he won his age group & sowed in the whole show, not bad for my first one.
I painted the raw wood last year.
This year I have more time, with the boys I cut down the block & notched for the weights had them sanding & cleaning up to get them involved in parts where they wouldn't loose a finger or 2!
Second day more sanding & this year I'm trying for a real paint job, nice & shinny!
So we got a couple of coats of sanding primer on.
Today I sanded that & shot a couple more coats, now I have to wait for their next visit to pick colors.
Last years................20240221_160038.jpg
About ready for paint.................................20240221_155526.jpgtrying for exactly 5 ounces this year!20240221_155446.jpgThe older one is a devils fan trying to get the logo on, or painted on, that logo gave me .1 oz. for exact 5, still have to see how much the paint & glue for the weights adds?

Well if the weather doesn't warm up soon or I find something on the car I can do I'll have to dust off the HO train bench & find something to tinker with there!
I miss my train room! B units 013.JPG

Mixed mush of killing time today, checked the car first, with the rain coming in this should be GONE!20240222_142912.jpg
then I made a little deflector for the heat pump, since most of the heat just goes out the roof.
seemed a little better in there got it up to 60ish.20240222_145825.jpgAnother round of sanding on the pine box cars & last coat of priming, lookin pretty smooth!20240222_155157.jpg
Then I did actually dust off the train bench a little, in that garage I could do this every few days. the nasties..............20240222_150714.jpg20240222_153137.jpg20240222_153150.jpgNow to find something to tinker with............20240222_155140.jpg

Signed up at original air & sent a question to make sure I'm ordering the right under hood A/C kit, there was a note about possible delays because of a hurricane, see if & when I get a response.

I thought classic had an under hood kit too, went back there & couldn't find it, just the full kits?
Vintage full kit only too.

Might as well get that ordered , think it's the kast big item.

Still in cleaning mode but got back to car stuff.

the 3M goop has arrived!20240225_143418.jpgpulled down the rear seats while cleaning the top shelf & started cleaning those up a bit.

can't believe all the way up there in the back it looks like buffing splatters on them, I can't get them off.

20240225_155418.jpg After scratching on em with a tiny screw driver I got a few of the tiny ones off, but it is just making the spots turn light blue.

Is there anything that works on buffing compound after it dried.
even on the panels I had some edges that turned white & can't get that off either????????

too bad, otherwise the old seats don't look too bad! 20240225_161356.jpgcouple of warm days coming up, 68 was kind enough to send me the plastic for the doors, due in Monday, maybe I can finish off the doors?

probably a thousand things I forgot, but the to do list is getting shorter! 20240225_163009.jpg

Try some Meguiar's Final Detail for that compound clean-up. Never tried it on upholstered panels, but it's worked for me elsewhere. Let it sit on the spots for a few minutes to soften them up.
Dried compound can be a nightmare, as it's slightly acidic.

looking for the meguiars final detail & could only find final inspection & last touch, would one of those be it?

On another note, the discussion with the engine builder as he was talking me out of a rebuild was to add renew oil additive, I could not find anything with that name but tons of others.
Engine had a noise/knock? upon startup that would go away as the oil flowed, I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the adjustable rockers I changed to stock?
Any good stuff out there that I should add to the oil, just using 10w30 castrol edge high milage.

Go to a Subaru dealership, and let the salesperson start up a new one while you stand beside it. I bet that sounds about like your motor did LOL

A wise man once told me the only thing "Renew" type stuff is good for is coating parts while the motor's apart for you to fix what's really wrong.

Well I guess I'll find out fairly soon, the eagerly anticipated & at the same time dreaded first startup is looming in the not too distant future?????????

Thanks 68, although I think you over did it by a tad.
I laid it on the table & cut it the short way, turned out that when un-folded was enough for both doors!
Maybe I'll do at least the 3 piece rear one over & half my garage.
Thanks again! 20240226_152605.jpg
So I pulled the cover & gave Her a wipe down, having some sun back there brightens things up a bit, looked pretty good. 20240226_164028.jpgbutttttttttttttttttt, the extra light showed a major mess, don't know how I missed it, can even feel it with your hands, I'm just praying it's all in the clear! 20240226_154208.jpgGlue on the emblem let go20240226_164210.jpgIt's fairly tight just laying there, I'll pull out the other repaired one & see how that goes, the idiot at year one was supposed to send 2, only sent one.20240226_164217.jpgSo on to some actual forward progress, I think I have the door & glass gaps as good as they are going to be......................20240226_164116.jpgSo I tested my key, it locked& unlocked the door, so it was on to spreading the goop, it did not come out of the box well 2 & 3 strips at a time, just kinda rolled em together & stretched them out, got a fairly uniform bead? 20240226_160048.jpg
Put a few beads where I thought it needed to be kept in & out of the way of the handles & levers.
Finally stuck on the plastic, the pushing in in the middle gave me a few folds at the bottom but I think I'm at good enough! 20240226_161352.jpg
Trimmed my edges & made sure all the lower panel clip holes were clear.

Tomorrow I try the door panel if the rain holds off?

Did this side first, I think it has the good door pull & no mirror cable to deal with.
Didn't want the mirrors on yet, but I'll have to on the driver's side to figure out the cable.

Regarding the "Renew" or whatever the mechanic/machinist was talking about: Use regular 10W-30, no additives or snake oil, etc., changed regularly with a new filter. "High Mileage" oil is wasted money if it costs more; it does nothing. You can use the cheapest crap oil and filter* as long as you're religious: 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first. The time aspect gets ignored a lot with newer cars, but with carbureted vehicles it's more important since a lot more gasoline finds its way to the oil pan. Motor oil starts to become acidic once it's run, getting moreso as time passes--even sitting in the pan.

The only additives I trust--but I don't use either of them--are STP and Lucas. If you've got a bottom-end rattle at startup--sort of sounds like marbles rolling around in a coffee can--either one may help quiet that. However, I'd be very gun-shy about starting an engine with Lucas in it below 20°F. I've got their little "crank demonstrator" here to show how it increases oil performance, with the Lucas side mixed as recommended. I've put it outside for a few hours on cold days and the results aren't encouraging. I'm sure STP, being the consistency of frozen donkey snot straight out of the jug, would have a similar effect. This is purely a cold-weather thing, so it may not ever be a concern for you. I wouldn't run either in my winter beater in our typical December-thru-April weather here.

*Straight out of my WIX rep's mouth: "The guys that really worry oil and filter brand are exactly the ones who don't need to. They're on top of their changes and can get away with anything on the shelf... even Fram."
