Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Still looking light, ordered 2 more cans of the clear at 26 bucks a can it hurt a bit!

Also ordered the headliner, actually got the 30% without the shipping doubling, small victories!

Still have to order the A/C under hood kit, hoping that will be the last big ticket item, getting awfully close to 30K already!

Jass, I tried the operation on the door pulls to try & save you from digging around, it might actually work if my screw up doesn't fal apart?

Started by drilling a bunch of small holes & then carving out the rest, first hole pretty good! 20240206_160327.jpg
On the second I had a drill bit that was just a tad smaller than the hole, figured wow one shot & no hour of carving, well that didn't go well the bit caught almost instantly & took out a big chunk! 20240206_160341.jpgSo I carved out the rest & it fit pretty good20240206_160400.jpg
so I super glued it together20240206_161115.jpg
Now if that little dip in the bottom is necessary, I may have to just drill another hole
20240206_161132.jpg
Shot some paint & the one chip up top is just inside the are rest so it might not be seen.

Turns out these are both left side pieces, so the R marked one is the one I need if you already have them located?

I'm sorry, Rusty. I just haven't been able to look. It's kind of outside my physical capabilites at the moment.

OK dumb question time!
How important are the sheets of plastic they stuck on the inside of the door & quarter window frames.
I have a couple of pieces mark took off his jeep that I could do the quarter windows with.
Did nothing on the other car.

If I do need to buy some for the doors what mill plastic should I buy?

It's a good idea to replace the plastic. It's a fantastic vapor barrier. And we all know what moisture does to door panels, and it helps slightly as a sound & dust barrier. I've been using the same plastic is normally used as a vapor barrier for home constructions. A little heavier than OEM but hurts nothing.

If you know any builders or remodelers they always have leftovers. If you don't find anything say the word, I can send you a big bunch.

Didn't get a chance to search, did work with a couple of builders that don't hate me so I can try them if that fails, I'll shoot you a line,
Gonna piece in the quarter windows in the next few days, if that works I just need to do the doors!

Spent the day with the grand daughter, got sick last night & couldn't go to day care (which I hate the idea of) anyway, see was fine all day & her smile self, tomorrow is her first birthday & we will see them again sat.
Lost two of the warm days, but well worth it!

Finally a good car day, actually took my jacket off for a while till the sun hid behind the clouds!

Got the splash shields on, I read a couple of things that said passenger side from engine bay side, but looking at it, it made no sense, so I went with both from the wheel well side! 20240209_124022.jpg20240209_123044.jpgNow you can have a little laugh, you have to picture this old fool out there peeling the black goop off the plastic sheets, it took a while & my hands are a mess, but saved me from postponing the job.
Used a slightly smaller bead, but it seems to be holding. 20240209_144830.jpgPass side was3 pieces, drivers side I managed to cut it right& did it in 2. 20240209_134359.jpg20240209_145155.jpg
Even stuck in my cigarette lighter & glove box door. 20240209_150446.jpg

Fixed that crimped heater hose, something made me try 5/8 hose, it went on the fittings fine (maybe it's what it should have been) any way that did kink too, but when I pushed it down to clear the A/C fittings it straightened right out!!! YEA!

Last but not least I finished off the clear on the interior panels, think I made it to close enough! 20240209_162054.jpg

Black goop? This stuff?

3M™ Strip-Caulk

That's the stuff. I've kept a box of it around for decades now. It's very useful stuff. I use it for sealing speaker drivers to cabinets, among other things non-automotive. It's every bit as messy as the original stuff.

For years, it was branded as "Strip-Calk" on the box. The Slade fan must've gotten canned from 3M's marketing department.

It's like that hot sauce commercial, I use that shit on everything

I'm familiar with Slade but don't know them well enough to get that connection.

Still rockin' the hair style though.

One of Slade's trademarks, much to the consternation of educators, parents, etc. was intentionally murdering the spelling of their song titles: Cum on Feel the Noize, Gudbuy T'Jane, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Skweeze Me Pleeze Me, etc.

Oh. I knew that but missed that point in your reply. Maybe because I was surprised someone mentioned Slade.

Pulled the tape off the panels, did a few small touchups & so far just moving then around & wiping off the dust hasn't marred them, hope this stuff is tougher! 20240211_133511.jpgSo I went ahead & put in the arm rests & emblems with my reversed pull maybe I'll get lucky the broken parts don't show like a sore thumb, now will it fit the lock lever ??????? 20240211_135905.jpg
