Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Hopefully I'll miss some of the more frustrating details & may not be in exact order but here's the updates.
Mirror hardware came in20240305_160520.jpgSo I started to put the door together, hope I routed the cable right, that existing kink is about where the window rubs it when full down.20240304_144814.jpgGot the plastic on..................20240304_153559.jpg
Door panel was going well till I hit the mirror bezel, first try it got tight real quick, trying to get it off it actually pulled through the retainer clip, now I'm trying to straighten & get the clip back in place in a 3inch opening at the top of the panel, after fighting that a while I started the bezel again, this time it ran in nice & smooth a little more than half way & got tight again, tried pliers on it & it started to spin the retainer, so I quit, not sure what my cure should be?
it does work but looks like hell! 20240307_152735.jpg

Messed with the spots on the seat a while, tried soaking in air tool oil, no rear effect but the vinyl looked nice! 20240304_162701.jpgthen the maguaris arrived & soaked that overnight, again not much success20240305_162633.jpgin the mean time I had been messing with the buffing stuff outside & with the A compound I got most off the front edge of hood after about 5 soak & scrubs! so I tried some on the seats, got a few off, most down to small spots. running out of options.20240306_163103.jpg
So I put my drivers seat together & started cleaning that up, seams & threads needed a lot of scrubbing, this took a while!20240306_161012.jpg
Ready to go in..............20240306_163311.jpg

So I pull out a ton of stuff I was leaving it the car & cleaned up the carpet, pass side is looking much better, just slight lumps left, I can live with this! 20240307_141029.jpgPut in the drivers seat, take the pics from the right angle it looks done, just laid the sill plate in for effect, can't do that till the rear panels are in. 20240307_152607.jpg20240307_152714.jpg

On the nicest day I went for that C pillar, got the wet sanding up to 2000 without incident & then dragged out the buffing stuff, still small spot near the window corner but with all the other glaring defects I'm not gonna sweat it! 20240308_150528.jpg5 foot rule still applies! 20240308_145104.jpgsince it was all out I decided to try the final glaze on the rest of the car, I had stopped at swirl remover, did a small section on the roof & saw there was still a lot of swirl marks, so 2 rounds of swirl remover & then the final glaze, I think I have one big section that doesn't need the 5 foot rule ! YEA!

Considering the danced on caved in crinkled roof that came to me I'm more than happy with the results! 20240308_162647.jpg20240308_162655.jpg

Waxed that today was gonna hit the glaze on the next area when the rains came.

Got the ship notice from year one on the headliner, As soon as I get the tent covered again I will set up the interior guy to do that & the sail panels.

Got the passenger seat cleaned up, taped up some mice chewed wires & that's ready to go in, I hope I don't have to get under the dash anymore, my body just can't do it with the seats in. 20240307_155550.jpgNot sure if they were my little buddies or from the texas mice, there were a bunch of nests I pulled during dismantle?
Ready ..............20240307_160253.jpgoh yea, short 2 of the plastic hinge covers, thought I only needed 2, I have or had a black one that was in worse shape, can't find that & I think during my recent cleanouts I chucked the 2 nasty white ones I had from the other car, could have painted any of those!

So on a short break the nice shinny new chrome screws on the mirror jumped out at me, do I leave them alone or dab a little black paint on them? 20240308_164056.jpg

That's a B-/C-body mirror nut, for use on a soft (upholstered) door panel. A- & E-bodies used a different nut, which is why I posted the picture and the part number in a previous post.

How the heck were you guys even getting in? LOL!
I couldn't.

Should be good now.
I've turfed almost everything in my account except for the forums and my old niagaramopars web site.
The other (Wordpress-based) stuff was wreaking havoc on my hosting account.
It was not easy, and "in" is a strong word.

I'm pretty sure the part number is cast right into the back of the nut. What you've got looks like part #2999001.

I will check if it comes off without taking the panel loose, my screw holes can't take much abuse, 3 or 4 are gone already.
I will try & see if I see a difference in the pics when I search again, I assume the threaded parts has to be shorter?

It should come off without removing anything else. The only thing onto which it should be threaded is the remote housing. The one you need should look exactly like the picture I posted, which is flat on the back.

Repro had no # on it, found one with correct# on ebay, in my watch list, another 30 bucks +
Then the dummy started thinking, what if I grind ff the back, well it's here & wasted money already so I gave it a try, cleaned it to flat!20240311_143126.jpgALLLLLLLLLLmost made it, was looking good going on easy till it decided to stop & get hard again, needed another 3/8" or so to flatten out, I'm not giving up, maybe a piece of black gasket material stuck in between will do it, now I have to see what's laying around.20240311_143735.jpgOn a brighter note the head liner arrived! 20240311_151202.jpg

Jass, be on the lookout I sent you a small box of goodies, a bunch of gaskets (one has the complete A/C heater box to firewall kit, I got one with the heater box rebuild kit & one with the firewall kit.
A bunch of other misc gaskets, mirrors, door handles etc.
One set of inner fender mud flaps & clips (dum dum bought twice) & the quarter window front rubbers.
It's light, just don't bend to pick it up, save the back!

So I found a floor pan plug that fit nicely behind the bezel, cut out the center & attempted to put it in, was hard to squish the rubber down to start the bezel & ended up popping that back clip again.
Sometime dumb luck works best!
Trying to figure a way to keep the clip from sliding over I wrapped it with black tape, got the clip straightened out again & back on, so I stick it in the hole & it's not protruding out as much, so I say what the hey, give it a try, started the bezel (without the rubber) & damn if it didn't get all the way on & feels pretty tight. worked the mirror adjuster knob a few times to make sure the tape didn't mess with that, all seems good so I'm calling it a victory!
Now I have to touch up the paint I scratched! 20240312_134445.jpg20240312_134452.jpgSo while moving stuff around the boxes with the trim rings was out, so I figured it was time to test one out, got that & 5 nice new lugs & some fantastic & set up the front tire, think I got old school about as right as you can with radial tires! 20240312_144953.jpg20240312_145030.jpgGot the front edge of the hood that was covered in dried buffing compound glazed & waxed, came out pretty good. 20240312_145351.jpgGot the back half final glazed & waxed. Actually did the door jamb on that side while I was at it, don't think that was even buffed? 20240312_152251.jpg20240312_152231.jpg
the side of the front fender was looking nasty so I did that too.

didn't do the door, I have that touch up to do, but there's not a lot of difference in the look, hope at least it's a little protection. 20240312_154215.jpg

I'm old!
beautiful day wasted on spring cleanup, started power washing the deck & railing, mann I miss my wood!
3 1/2 hours & got about 1/3 done, used to do the whole thing in one day. about 1/2 way through I could feel my back starting to complain & I figure my carpel tunnel will be back with a vengeance tonight after holding the trigger that long, maybe I'll do something easy on the car & go back to it friday?

Make sure you use a good wax & grease remover before you attempt to apply the stripes. They won't stick to wax for long.

I have just a little bit left I hope it's enough!
I bought a spare gallon when I was buying paint for the engine bay

There's a couple of fingers worth in a coffee can sitting on the bench right now that I've been dropping nuts and bolts in to clean them up.

I was hoping I was done with paint, it's amazing how many more defects I picked up when I got up close & personal with the wax.
cept for the chip touch up the body is what it is now, 5 foot rule applies, or just take it out at night!
