Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Just trying to be overly cautious, funny we were working moving the drivers side & I said damn that"s pretty straight, later walking around the car I noticed the passenger side is turning right a noticeable bit!

I do remember when I took it all apart I made a note the the drivers side was way out on the threads & it was quite a bit more than the other side.
Figured that was due to whatever the trauma was on that inner fender?

Googled the grommets, nothing saying rear showed up, then I did the cable & most had no grommet with them, but at inline tube (which seem to be pretty accurate with their stuff) the pic looks like they do have grommets!

3691905 is the original shroud for the car.

I only see two wires coming out of the motor itself, the green and the black ground wire. I don't have the FSM here to reference, but I'm pretty sure there's only supposed to be two. The speed is regulated by the blower-motor resistor in the heater box, not the motor itself.

As far as the boot damage goes, that looks like rot. No telling how long that ball joint sat on the shelf, I guess, but that's what it looks like to me. If it's a Moog, warranty it. If it's not, what were you thinking?

FWIW don't worry about centering the steering box. The splines on the box and the column are keyed so it only goes on one way.
Correctamundo, to quote the Fonz. However, you definitely want everything as centered as possible, including the steering wheel, when you go to connect all the steering linkage. Get the front wheels as straight and parallel as you can get them, and the steering wheel in the correct centered position. You'll save the alignment tech a lot of grief and probably get your steering wheel oriented correctly when it's done.

Shroud was in good shape, just cleaned it up & shot the paint, now when the rad gets back I'll lay it in over the fan & that should be done, gotta start picking up hoses & stuff.
I also ordered ignition control, voltage regulator, rad cap & the new check valve for the booster which I managed to break!

Gotta look back, I brought a front end kit, gotta go back & see where?
half the parts were china!!!!!!
even some of the moog stuff is made there now.20220628_170129.jpg

Everything I've gotten for A-, F-, & B/E-bodies is still made in USA. Much of the '72-older A-body stuff has gone extinct, though, as have some of the more complex F-body items. B/E are next, so get while the gettin's good.

I've got enough Moog parts here to rebuild four 1964-'72 disc-brake A-bodies, two E-bodies, and a '73-'76 A-body. With the A-body stuff gone, it's like gold now. I've hoarded it not as a scalper, but because I'm now my own warranty department for those cars.

Above parts were delivered yesterday, but yet I have no package, hoping a neighbor will bring it by today & avoid another hassle!
Was USPS, the guy was probably on his phone again, I see him walking down the block jabbering away all the time!

I would call your servicing post office and tell them the situation: They say they delivered it, but there's no box at your residence. Ask them to find out if it was mis-delivered or accidentally left on the vehicle, because you haven't got it. Being retired, I assume you're home most of the day so you'd have known if it arrived.

That guy being on the phone all the time is not only a detriment to his job, it's an annoyance to everyone he knows. I used to have a friend that was a long-haul trucker. He'd call me several nights a week and just yammer on for hours about nothing. It drove me insane, especially since when he was home, I never heard from him.

the main trouble is they have like 10 packages on the steps for 2 days now, there's one box that looks about the right size, if they were not new people I'd go over & ask!

I get packages misdelivered every time there's a new driver on the route. Our house numbering is terrible in this neighborhood. In the days before GPS, they'd drive to the end of the road without finding me and just leave my package at the last house.

Walk over and knock on the door. If there's 10 packages there for 2 days, there's nobody home. Grab your package and heck, grab another one as a bonus. Just kidding.

She just brought them over, thy were actually in her house anyway.
So I recognize 2, the voltage regulator is marked from china, nothing on the igi control T series brand any good? I am keeping the old ones just in case!20231024_183047.jpgOh yea, any trick to installing the check valve on the booster, I didn't pull what was left of the old yet?

OK, I'll give it a try if I can get the lawn work done early enough!
Got a couple of nice days, maybe I can spend more than an hour or 2 on the car!

Looking at the way the cable's made, it would appear the grommets are necessary because the retainer tangs are too short to securely hold the cable to the backing plate. I checked with The Pliable One (Stretch) and, like me, he never remembers seeing a grommet on an OE cable. Kev didn't either, so it's likely an aftermarket thing. It seems like a good way to make one retainer fit dozens of makes/models with similar-size holes in different-thickness material.

Or, it's entirely possible that we're just not that observant and full of hooey.

Couple more little things out of the way, did the check valve first, had to remove the rubber from it, put the rubber in & then put in the valve, was pretty easy that way!
then I got the package from inline tube.............20231025_110938.jpgSo I pulled out a backing plate & tested the fit before I mounted the cables, looks correct it locked in with the grommet!20231025_125118.jpgI had a hell of a time getting it back out again, don't have a tool to compress 3 ears at one time! 20231025_125108.jpgSo I crawled under & mounted the cables, another thing out of order it was a bitch getting the clips on the rear with the mufflers right there, actually bent the crap out of one of the new ones, lucky I at least had one old one to use, cables in! 20231025_133938.jpg

I always just grab the thing with channel locks and apply plenty of cursing but I've also heard you can use a line wrench that's a tight fit and tap it toward the backing plate.

FWIW, it shore is looking purty underneath your car, mister.
