Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Hit summit up for the new tranny pan/filter & gasket.
tons of money going out, but I haven't put a piece on the car in a while?

Well started off this day on the wrong foot, my door jamb seals turned out to be quarter window jamb seals, mine were in pretty good shape but since they were here what the hey go new20230623_124654.jpg
I had to work them a bit, no contours, a little fancy bending got em close! 20230623_130823.jpg
Even had to punch a hole on the outside top, they missed it. 20230623_130927.jpg
Some day I will get a complete correct order!

Got the dip stick painted & the bottom, went ahead & shot a coat of clear over the whole thing, when the pan arrives I'll clear the bottom! 20230623_150545.jpg

Then it was bench time, started stripping the wood grain off, it did not come off easy & had to do most with a 1/2" exacto knife, my hand will be numb for a week! 20230623_154922.jpg
After 4 rounds of adhesive remover & tons of scraping & wire brushing I finally got it clean! 20230623_160704.jpg
insert went in pretty good, anybody need one, chrome was a little better on the bottom one.20230623_162751.jpg

Finally something I don't have to strip & paint.
Nice chromie pan with a DRAIN PLUG, filter & gasket!

What is that second gasket they all seem to pack with them, not pan bottom shaped but about the same size?20230624_173116.jpg

OK, gonna go see if I can find a how to video, but in the mean time I have the tranny open, removed the filter & I see no obvious place for the extra parts? 20230625_125257.jpgthe washer with the seal was taped inside the trans pan & the gasket thingie came with the filter
don't see a place for either in here? 20230625_125313.jpg
there was a tiny bit of metal on the filter & in the pan & some weird looking green things? 20230625_124729.jpg20230625_124720.jpgAm I in trouble?

OK, then I can button her up tomorrow when the paint dries on my bolts, I'll see if that seal is something I want to mess with?

Another thing I put off as long as possible, started checking out the dash harness, most of the connectors are in good shape, getting this laid out behind the dash is going to be fun.
Found the one that went to the burnt up heat/cool switch, now to hunt down a replacement should be fun, last case just put on 3 new connectors & ditch the plastic??? 20230625_142726.jpg20230625_142815.jpg
one obvious bad blub, got lucky & found one in a mixed drawer from the bulb assortment I got when my bro in law passed away........20230625_143628.jpg20230625_143551.jpg
Got the trans pan bolts painted, put the filter in, can button that up tomorrow & then I went to the painful task of adding in the last batch of parts to the ever growing cost sheet, I may yet get it done under 25K20230625_170711.jpg

This is the one I got from My Desoto down in texas, 2500 & 550 shipping it up here.
I paid 35 for the long island rust bucket, & I think 220 for the tow back to jersey .
The car I never should have bought, but at least I learned a ton of what not to do.

Still have a few big ticket items to buy, complete exhaust headers to tips, carpet ,underlay, rear divider, trunk mat, head liner & that I will pay to have installed.
Oh yea the dash pad which is on it's way to ABC moparts.
then the A/C compressor, alternator fuel pump etc etc etc the list goes on but my mind doesn't !

I got the tranny pan on, but I flipped it back over before I took a pick of the nice shinny pan & my pretty black bolts!
Pulled the next harness, the coating was pretty frayed up.........20230626_131041.jpg
one joint I have to solder & one I have to open up & see what they did under the tape..................20230626_132359.jpg
Thought I would run out of tape, but made it to the end, just have to make the repairs & this can go in. 20230626_133431.jpg
Now I have to hunt down a neutral safety switch harness, a tad beat up! Connector up top busted up & didn't even have one at the tranny! 20230626_130335.jpg

Anyone need any 1/8 x 1" roll pins I have about 23 extra, or 1 1/4 freeze plugs, 6 or 7 extra & the one part I should have had to order, the heater valve came today, all from rock auto & all from different places! They love their shipping! 20230626_155409.jpg

all from different places!
At one point yesterday I had 4 different things in the cart and they all came from different places. I laughed.

I noticed that all the Carter fuel pumps might drop ship because they're all at the same warehouse, where nothing else I need is stored. I looked at 3 different small block part numbers.

I guess we should be happy they have the stuff, was looking for the neutral safety complete harness, only herbs showed it & it's out of stock, I did the notify me thing, I hope they restock?
I can get the tranny pig tail, but I need both ends!

Rock auto is substantially cheaper than even Summit and Jeg's on things they both sell (fuel pumps, water pumps, etc) but shipping has me checking totals to be sure the savings aren't eaten up by the shipping costs.

Yeah I thought that about the pig tail - the other end is kind of an odd V-shape IIRC.

FWIW watch out for Herb's. My order took forever to finish out. For example I ordered a set of bumper bolts, and they showed up in 3 shipments. :D Eventually I got everything but I had to check it off over time.

That's also where I got the two AMD bumpers with matching slices in an edge ...

Hmmmm, I have a pic of mine above, not V shaped, where does the top plug into gotta see if I can find the other end & see what that looks like!

So today was finish off the rear light harness, got lucky & had one of each pigtail for the rear lights left over from the 73, this was frayed & spliced right up to the metal.20230627_140319.jpg
forgot my drills were upgraded to 20 volt & fried the bulb when trying to test it, I think I have a bunch of those in the stash.20230627_141017.jpg
Got those 4 soldered up & ready for shrink wrap20230627_143558.jpg
One set done! 20230627_143710.jpg
Dug out the tiny files to try & clean up the connections20230627_144722.jpg
when I took off the tape on the next bulb it was just frayed for quite a distance & the spade for the groung popped off! 20230627_150222.jpg
Spiders made a home & a grave yard out of this one! 20230627_150244.jpg
Put in the new pigs tail & solder & shrink wrapped that, for one lonely spade that was the exact size in Dad's train stash! 20230627_151433.jpg
