Not A Duster's Most Excellent Progress

Looking good...I have lots of 307 brg trans parts if you need...don't buy anything...your more than welcome to what ever I have...I don't have any leavers though...I sent all I had to Jamie Passon...but speed gears and clutch gears and sleeve's I have a plenty...

Did you boil the thing out to remove the flakes first? I'm getting conflicting points of view on that.

Nope, tossed a short log chain in there and shook vigorously, also gently beat on the tank with a rubber mallet. I think the por-15 instructions recommended the chain trick and it seemed sufficient. The kit includes a rust neutralizer and wash for prep. As I said it's a laborsome job but worth the end result.

Thanks fellers. I will take you up on the stuff if I need it, but I think other than some service items like bushings I have pretty much all the bits...not sure if I have the correct reverse rod. The one I have bears no resemblence to the one in the manual...it worked - but only with the reverse lever flipped upside down....

Beeper:

Thanks - that is what I will do then. Saves me $40. :giggedy:

I have plenty of "marine clean" & "metal ready" left over from the undercarriage project, so all I should need is the sealer itself...fortunately I drained the tank completely, so there is no sludge or varnish in there.

You gonna need that K-frame I have any time soon?

Yeah - like right now. Probably start on that stuff next week, assuming I can get the car turned around in the garage.

Update:

The four speed is going to sit on the shelf for this year at least. Upon preparing the flywheel to take in & get resurfaced, I discovered that some monkey has drilled an extra "balancing" hole into the backside, just off from where the correct one is.

Can't imagine why someone would butcher the thing like that, but it's junk and it is the final straw on my driveline budget, so for the now I'm going to keep the auto in the car, which is much simpler & cheaper.....well simpler except for this little issue:http://www.moparnuts.com/forums/showthread.php?p=116133#post116133

Exercise.....

...Yeah - exercise.

That's what the POR 15 gas tank kit is....

20 min of shakin' & flippin the tank around fulla chains followed by 1/2 an hour of shakin' & flipping it around full of marine clean....

-rinse at the car wash-

...then shake it & flip it for 1/2 hour full of another marine clean brew....

-rinse at the car wash-

...then shake it & flip it full of metal ready etcher....let stand on all 4 sides for 20 minutes each - flip it around for 1/2 hour.

-rinse well at the car wash-

Dry it completely

Then swish sealant around until it's done.

When's a good time?

Being unemployed I kin leave at the drop of a hat.:giggedy:

Well - got my transmission issues sorted out.

Found a neutral-balance flywheel in a junkyard.

Took me by suprise, 'cuz it was ridiculously easy - almost laying on the ground.

Nasty old rusted JY flywheel = $5.00 (Yes - really)
Resurfacing, straightness
check and balancing flywheel= $53.00
Total cost of flywheel: $58.00

We be back in 4-speed country again...

I figgered that while I wait for the tank sealer to set (and the feeling to return to my arms...) I would check over the 340. It needs a rear main seal & I'm going to replace the oil pump while I have it off just as to be safe. (They are cheap.)

The cam & lifters, rockers, shafts, pushrods & timing chain all look as good as they did when I Installed them.

Gonna scrape the 3 layers of paint off (including the quicky coat of black I put on it 7 years ago.)

Watched the news lately?

That Lucifer fella seems to be making some pretty major strides everywhere....

....But on a personal level, I'm starting to win a few battles myself - mostly thanks to you and a few others.

And sometimes things are just working out....For example: Waiting for some paint to dry today, decided I would test the wheels n' tires I scored at last Fall's swap meet. I was concerned that the 275/60/15" rubber might rub the springs Perfect fit - clearance all around. :giggedy:
