Not A Duster's Most Excellent Progress

And finally, the new one.

8-3/4, 3.55:1 Suregrip.

Second pic is all the bits & pieces freshened up and ready to re-install. Not nearly as nice as Rusty Cuda's work, but ready to go.

Anybody know of a decent Canadian source for those U-bolts? Local dealer wants $16.00 a peice + taxes for the MP ones and I can't find a jobber service replacement...

There is a guy in Yorkton that will make em up for yah with the long style nuts for $6-$8 each cash no tax.:giggedy:

Good stuff there nodda, will be a stout A-body for sure.

Almost a shame that original 8 1/4 is so clean only to be set aside.

Beeper -

I am gonna keep the drums from the 7.25 , 'cuz they are in such good shape & should work for someone who wants to keep a resto-correct 4" bolt pattern A-body...otherwise: Paperweight.

Dippy:

Never thought of getting the damn things made up... I'm sure there are plenty of places that'll do 'em here too.

Give "Spring Service" in Regina a call.

They charge about $7 a piece.

*Chuckle* yeah.....

I s'pose they do.

-That's where I'm taking the car to get the springs re-arched once it's together.

Called 'em a couple weeks ago to get pricing for that. Never thought to ask 'em about the u-bolts. :shifty:

I wanted to get new leaf springs from a place like espo because re-arching is a short -term band-aid at best, but my body shop issues killed that idea. So for now, it's the re-arch.

Nad, I just take better pics, doctor em up a bit & wala parts look like new! :shifty:
I paid way too much for a set of U bolts & nuts, found out a shop can bend em for ya for under 10 bucks a pop! (paid 68 for the set!)
Fredrick dodge has leaf springs for the e bods at 189 a set, well below what my local shops will build or even rebuild for, don't know about the shipping yet , but I think thats how I'm going! Rich.

Crestview Chrysler here want's $240/side for the leaf springs for a grand total of $480.00.

They also want $80.00 for the ubolts.

...Not gonna pay it.

Re-doing my math & I think I might be better off buying the espo's new. They quoted me $280.00 USD for new springs with 1" extra lift shipped to the border including the U-bolts and a new front eye bushing installed - that comes to $336 Canadabucks, plus maybe another $50.00 for brokerage & shipping to my door.

The re-arch was quoted to me at $275.00 CDN plus another $40 for U-bolts. That does not include new bushings as I was just going to use the ones on the springs.

The cost is close enough that I think I'm better off just replacing the damn things.

...Means I hafta wait for 'em to arrive tho.

Rob R:

No fun at all...especially when grinding on stuff.

Trying to keep the rust & old paint dust settling on the new paint to a minumum, so I'm doing as much of that outdoors as I can.

I got springs for the Wagon made at Spring Service about 2 years ago and they were $210 a side including one extra leaf, a more aggressive arch, Rear shackle bushings and U-bolts.

Maybe I was lucky???

$210.00 a side is still a lot more than $280.00 US for both.

Did they do 'em off the car, or didja hafta leave the car with 'em?

Oops, i didn't see that price was for a set.

I just told them what I needed springs for and they made them up for me.

Spanky new u-bolts n' straps from spring service. (Thanks for the tip DW - it was a good one...)

Springs are re-assembled and painted. Ready to install.

We've been scraping & prepping the back 1/2 underside of the car as well, getting it ready for POR 15 and installation of all these parts. Reminds me that I need to pull the gas tank and straps from the parts pile & paint them.

On another note - the front seat skin and dashcap came in yesterday. Ordered the stuff before the big bodyshop suprise...I wish I'd of known about that before I made this order...I could have done without it for a year or two. It's working out OK as I think wifey is going to pay for the skin as my next years Christmas present, 'cuz she likes the bench better than the buckets.

Got a new trunk seal with the same order ... feel free to make whatever Gio comments you think fit the occasion. :D The rest of the old rubber is salvageable and is going back on the car with new fasteners that also came from Legendary.

If it's one thing I've gone through alot of over the years would be those stupid bolts. :D

For the price of those one I don't even bother screwing with the old ones, I just cut em an throw em out.:dgt:

Lookin good BTW.:giggedy:
