70 Sport Satellite build

Okay, so a month later, I have home internet.:giggedy: Here's where the car has sat for the last bit. The body's blocked, and a few spots are re primed, awaiting blocking. I'd like to get to that Thursday night. We'll see. The top isn't blocked because it's getting a new vinyl roof, so it'll just get lightly scuffed. The emblems & door handles have since been removed (again), but the grille isn't coming out. It's hard to resist the temptation to do a total teardown. It's just a driver....repeat. More progress to follow...

even if it is a driver..pull the grill and markers!!!..come on...do it right
I agree with you, but this car is so un F-d with, that I want to preserve as much of the factory fit & finish as is possible, and in removing, rather than carefully masking, I'll rid the car of some of that.

Most likely not, but this time I'm maintaining factory straight, not skim the entire car, block, prime, block, prime, etc. The markers will come out, as they should, but the grille won't. Even the original argent on the tail panel is so nice, it's not being repainted, but masked and preserved.

After putting a truly show paint job on my dad's 70 Mach 1, then having it destroyed by a freak hail storm before even having a chance to drive the car has seriously changed my viewpoint on cars. After the paint was done on that car, I was afraid to let anyone near it. With cars that may not be perfect, though nice, and somewhat preserved, I'm not afraid to drive them and have fun with them.

69.5, I truly understand where you're coming from, but this just isn't that kind of car. When I find a body to redo my 67 383S Barracuda, that'll be a different story. That car will likely be driven little, and built as close to the window sticker as possible.

i understand..but id hate to see the grill shift a little and show 2 colors of paint...ya know?..kinda like not pulling door handles and chrome trim

JC what you need a coupe or a fastback

I need a fastback. I have all the parts, so I'm not in a rush.

69.5, you're a good influence. The more I thought about it, the more it really weighed on my conscience to leave the grille in. Regardless of the driver status, I want to do it right, short of total disassembly. The markers were always on the list to remove. All that's left to remove now is the rocker moldings.

lol sorry...its just the way i am....id only leave stuff thats a royal pain to remove like windshield, back window stuff like that..wing window frames would be a toss up...the rubber seal can shrink and show old paint...but my god what a pita it is to pull and re-align

I had to make a decision. Put my money into pretty paint, or interior and vinyl top. Since I enjoy driving my cars, and whilst driving said cars, I see interior, that is where I will put my money for now. For the time being, I hosed the car down in matte black, which, with the black wheels, really gives the car a bit of a Mad Max look. I figure the car will be fun this way for the summer, and come winter, I'll take it back apart, paint, put the A/C back in, remove the engine, and detail it as well. The photos don't make the car look as good as it looks in person.

Ummm....who has a set of Plymouth poverty caps they need to be rid of? Actually, I think I'll go ahead and put the polished Ansens on.

I just stumbled into a perfect engine for that car...it's an old 1976 race 452 ci...it was in a 68 runner that ran 10.80's back in the day...
It's a roller cam engine and boy does it truly sound NASTY...the car even had an MSD 7 AL on it...
we took it out and did a couple of burn outs in it (not the kind where you stand on the brake and light the rear tires up)the real kind where you stand on it from a dead stop.Well it had some old ProTrac tires on the back...What a stench from those old tires:sick:...and RPM..!![smilie=2:Man does that thing turn the R's...no tach in the car (cable drive) but I know what 7500 sounds like and it does that in a heart beat...I didn't have the balls to spin it until it quit pullin but it did see 7500 plus in second gear and it seemed to be just gettin started...[smilie=2:We only had 5 gals of C16 so our little trip was short lived but fun...
If the cars still together next weekend I'll get video of it because I'm curious as to what cam (and red line) it has in it.
The heads have a Ron's Porting (from Cal.) stamp in them so they must be 280-300 cfm because I can see Brass (welding on the intake runners) and they have long style valves (5/16's stem) and triple springs 1.650's.
It's not worth anything but it's a pretty good example of state of the art mid 70's tech...
It would be perfect for Cody's car...:p

id love to lay my hands on some cool old iron like that..vintage race engines kick ass even if you couldnt win todays races with one

It's pretty cool stuff...all you would have to do is change the cam and those $#@% triple springs and away you go...That's if the seats are in the same place after those springs beat the crap out of them...
I made a couple of passes with the car and when I stopped and got out I could hear the oil sizzling on the springs through the covers..(that sure brought back memories of the old days)
I'll get some pictures this weekend...

I love freebies! My longtime buddy gave me these wheels & slicks today, because he didn't have any use for them. They're 15X9 Torque Thrusts, which date back to my buddy's father's 68 Cougar. He put the wheels on immediately after buying the car new, so they have a bit of history, including time on a 68 'Stang drag car, a 64 Galaxie 4 speed car, and a 68 Charger.

Getting these wheels throws a bit of a kink into my polished Ansens on the Satellite plan. If I could find some matching fronts(14's would be fine), I'd have spokes blasted, and the outer rims polished. I think it'd look killer. Suggestions?
