1982 Cordoba Stock Car.

The clean up of that stuff is the exact reason why ALL of that stuff has to be removed from the cars on our track before they are alowed to run. Its part of the safty inspection.

And I repaired it..... ALOT! :D

We also had a "No uni-body" rule in my class. They expanded that rule to all of the classes (except the 4 banger class) at some point. John could run his aspen because it was grandfatherd in.

Unibodies are much stronger than full-frame cars... typical moronic Norway rules. You can run a unibody there now, though. I think the Slammers are completely gone, but you can run one in Street Stock or Super Stock, whatever they decided to call it this year. John had the power, but he was working with the miserable FMJ front end on pavement. No way was he going to win.

That's kind of a stupid rule, huh?
Just about every pro built race car, whether it's ARCA, Nascar, LeMans or whatever other series you can think of, utilizes a unitized construction.
The rule makers were Chevy guys, no doubt?

Header panel is finished, but I forgot to weigh it as of now.

Just needs paint.

I know you enjoy it, but I might suggest you put waaaaay too much work into something that's going to get the hell beaten out of it. :D

It looks good, man. Seriously. Nice work.

You know I'm impressed when I start using sentence fragments...

I have to give 100% credit to my father in law as he did about 95% of the work with a total of about 5-6 hours labor. The man is damn good.

It's built to take the beating, and you can straighten it if the need arises. I still can't believe how light it is even for being fully welded.

It's more durable and nicer looking then anything else I could have run up there.

A rubber Mirada nose would be nice but they are like Hemi Darts out here. Non-Existent. :D

Well, if you ever want a Mirada nose, let me know. I have access to several. Shipping would be a pain, but they're cheaper than dog crap around here. I know of one that is literally, "Go take the damned thing... it's been in that meadow for 17 years." :D It's the same car from which I robbed my floor-shift tilt steering column and console. "Just go take the stuff!" is what I was told.

So I got around to weighing those two header panels.

The old gutted fiberglass one weighs 19lbs with no brackets or stretch metal.

The new steel one complete minus paint weighs 21lbs.

Damn.... :D

Got the door skin tabs mounted.

Fixed the drivers door skin and mocked it up into place. Going to drill holes and rivet it to the tabs.

Passenger side.

Cut out the right front fender opening, will be running a piece of 1/4" round bar on the inside of the opening.

Filled in the gas door. I'm thinking I might fill in the door handle/lock holes as well.
