What are you working on?

ive been using that same gun for 20+ years now...its none to happy unless the consistancy is "just right" these days so i only use it for primer any more...twas my first hvlp...came in a set with a mini..the mini still works like new and gets used on everything small

It's a 3 gun set. One for primer, one for color, and a detail gun. I like them. It took a bit to figure them out. I had used my buddies set for years. They are similar but not the exact same name.

These like less air pressure than Nates. Once I figured that out its been a great set. The primer gun likes about 20 p.s.i. and the color gun likes about 6 to 8 p.s.i. Nates liked about 25 p.s.i. for the primer gun and 10 to 15 p.s.i. for the color gun20221127_134553.jpg20221127_134547.jpg.

After letting the paint dry for a few hours I went back out to the garage and started cleaning my O.D. parts. All thats left to clean is the cluster gear and I need to remove the tail shaft bushing. 20221119_163039.jpg20221119_163028.jpg20221119_163022.jpg20221119_163052.jpg20221127_150030.jpg20221127_164705.jpg20221127_134853.jpg20221127_134848.jpg20221127_140656.jpg20221127_152409.jpg20221127_152417.jpg20221127_164712.jpg20221127_164730.jpg

hmm when i got mine it was a 2gun set..ida killed for 3....and mine actualy likes the higher pressures too, drop it that low and it gets all spitty
im slowly replacing that old 2 gun set with finex and i ADORE them

The weird part is I also cut that elbow and scabbed pipe out of the bathtub drain, now the bathtub doesn't drain at all. Impossible, said I from the crawlspace, actual, said Gina from the living space..
That turned out to be a clog right under the Fernco in the hub - I didn't check that so I got to go under again. It's all working now until the next leak pops up or I hire a plumber to do the dirty work of replacing all the copper with PEX and updating the cast iron drains.

I woke up this morning right before the alarm sounded and realized that I had cut the ground out of my electrical circuit when I put the ball valve in. There's enough pipe left above the slab for me to add a clamp and wire jumper across the PEX, so it's off to the hardware store *again* after work ...

They're decent guns.
I've had some pretty high-end guns over the years, and while I really liked most of them, my all-time favourites are DeVilbiss.

Keeping the packing around the needle lubed up is vital to any DeVilbiss. Spitting, sloppy patterns, and leakage are usually due to dry or worn packing.

Most guys struggle with HVLPs if they're not used to them. The go-to is usually to crank up the pressure, which is the #1 wrong thing to do.
They really like high-flow fittings and a minimum 3/8" I.D. air line.

that finishline touch up works flawlessly, the bigger gun gets real cranky and very finite in its settings, as in it wants an exact pressure under an exact thinning of the mix, it used to be a whole lot less picky, ive rebuild it countless times with new seals hoping to get back the more broad range it had when new...these days it wants more pressure on an exactly thinned mix, slightly too thick or to thin and it throws a tantrum..the tantrum is less if its too thick.....which is why ive relegated it to being primer gun..seems to handle high build just fine, but is less happy about epoxy ..and i can trust it to lay color or clear any more....
it was a great gun for single stage for sure

Transmission parts cleaned up nice...not bad for a free A833OD! (y)
This one wasn't the free one. I found this one next to a road through a row of cars in our favorite salvage yard around 15 years ago. It has never had a speedometer gear adapter as long as I have had it. It sat out in the weather like that for who knows how long in the yard and on my garage steps most of the time i have had it.

The free one is a mess!

What tip size do you use?
My early edition Finish Line with plastic body and tip came with a bunch of tips, smallest being 1.6 if I remember correctly. I use 2.0 and 2.2 for high build and polyester primers.
My '99 model GTi, I use a 1.3 or 1.4 for single layer, and a 1.2 or 1.3 for base and clear.
I've never rebuilt either of them, and both were bought in the late 90s. In fact, I think the Finish Line was bought around '94.
But, both are broken down and cleaned after every use.

i want to say its a 1.8 or 2.0...i know that it was bought before digital cameras LOL..id have to really dig to figure out a rough year of when i got em...i belive the gamer bus was the first useage for it..that was ALOT of paint..several gallons of fleet SS and primer....biggest sanding job ive ever done LOL

breaking them down is standard for me as well..

I just purchased a used 4 post lift today for the shop, It's a 8000lb Lift king unit, it's a few years old and I will have to drive 8 hours one way to get it but for the price I couldn't pass it up! I have been looking for one for a while now and just missed out on one locally by a few minutes, all the others I'd found, new and used, I would have had to drive at least 8-10 hours one way to get it, price you pay for living up North and in a small-ish town. But will be nice to be able to get the Coronet and wagon both parked in the same area in the shop.

And speaking of the Coronet I'm heading down tomorrow to finally get it inspected. Been an ordeal trying to get the inspection scheduled....but that's a story for my coronet thread. ;) But it's full on winter here and will be -25*C over night with a day time high of -15*C tomorrow! And of course out my way two days ago it snowed a couple inches of wet snow which then got packed into a sheet of ice, and now the temps have frozen things solid!

Gonna be a hairy and stressful drive tomorrow with the Coronet on my trailer behind Patches, since it's a steep up hill from my shop to the road, then a fairly steep windy mile or so down to the main road out of our area. Once I'm about 10-15 minutes from my place the roads basically clear up. Coming home I most likely will have to chain up to be able to get up that same windy hill.

Hope it passes inspection then I can get it registered in my name and can file for my collector plates.

you couldnt have picked a WORSE time to get at that....

i wish you ALL the luck
and i curse you n your 4 post....i can say i DO NOT miss the 2 post and the teeter youd get on long stuff nor the posts being continualy in the way..but i do miss the unobstructed acess to the belly

silly question..but is 8k enough for patches?..my brains saying no

Patches weighs in around 6900lbs so I guess technically I could get it on there, but it's mainly for storing the Coronet and the wagon neither weighs more than 4000lbs, so should be fine for what I need it for. ;)

i got the displeasure of seeing a mole hole fountain in the yard and some yard flooding this morning..

luckily i know where all my lines are er..within a 2ft radius ..but i had 2 very muddy wet spots..and you never know where a mole tunnel leads....
after digging the first soupy spot down 3 feet and finding dry pipe and re-testing i tryed the other spot..and ended up with what looks like a shallow grave..found the spot..a 45 deg joint split most the way round...its dark and im waiting for glue to cure

so much for a "day off"..spent all day diggin muddy suction soup....at this point i just want a damn shower and have to wait

who says snow wheels should just be ugly?

the wheels were free with some well worn blizzaks on 2 of em, i ran em "ugly" last year and the year before for the 2 weeks or so of "threats" of snow...we just dont see snow much out here...but theres times when its better to be safe than sorry

the wheels themselves are 15inch scion wheels..the blizzaks are on their last stretch..should be good for another seasons or 2 depending on how much mileage they get..fronts are brand new hankooks both sets are 195/60/15s

anyway i tossed the wheels in my blasting cabinet and stripped em to raw steel, then i set to welding in 3 threaded inserts on the bead...after that a coat of epoxy primer, 2 coats of high build primer, a day of sanding, then a base coat of omni to body match topped with glamor clear..all the same stuff i used on the spoiler so...new new money spent on anything but the 2 new tires and a new set of chrome lug nuts to finish the look, im looking at getting some "trailer" bearing caps for the centers..aperantly theres a set that fit or so i found on a random post on a scion board also added chrome metal valve stems

litteraly baked the primer the day before turkey..and laid the base clear turkey day....these babys are FRESH

"summer" with fresh new rubber too...LOVE the 195/60/14 quadracs AMAZING tire on the car...grippy in all conditions glued down like a gokart..and while i can feel the need for the rear sway, the car still feels very "dialed" in ..tire size and a lil offset will net you big gains sometimes.. on such a light lil car....185s SUCK anyway

these salt flat discs were from the lloyd, and well they are not in the greatest of shape anymore, so i sanded them up and clear coated em, they arnt cherry but as snow wheel covers and a "test" to see how well they work in day to day use, they are good enough..and this is why i added the 3 threaded studs on each wheel

sadly the lighting with everything on the car SUCKED..but what do you expect in winter?

FWIW the salt flat discs require alot of...adjustment...to get them to stop making noises, which i actualy preplanned for with nylon spacers that fit over the threaded studs...even still i had to "tweak" the discs as well..seems the biggest issue is disc to wheel chatter....the other issue is when little rocks find their way in thru the holes in the wheels and cant get out.....yes delivering i see gravel roads now n then..sooooooits kinda an issue

this is a great test for me tho on the discs for the lloyd to see what kind of things i need to pre-do to not have issues..like for the lloyd ill need to add a rubber ring behind the disc to stop the chatter due to being recessed on an aluminum wheel vs the yaris steel...ill also need to shave either the wheel or the disc for a little more clearance as its a VERY snug fit on the lloyd, lastly ill need to see about maybe a screen? on the holes in the wheels....i dont forsee gravel in my future but rocks on roads happens especialy early spring

Thursday after work I masked the door. Friday after work I primed the door with plans of painting Saturday morning. When I was spaying my last coat of primer I noticed I had not heard the compressor run at all. That's when I found out my back up compressor took a shit. 2nd compressor failure in 2 weeks. Perfect!

I cleaned my paint gun and started diagnosing the compressor. Turns out the pressure switch is bad. I bypassed it, filld the system and shut it down. I had plenty of air to run my paint shaker and lay down 3 coats of color on the door. My back up compressor has a 60 gallon tank, the main compressor has an 80 gallon tank pluse all the shop plumbing so there is some volume here.

After painting I went town, grabbed Chrissies car, took it to work and serviced it, filled the gas tank ( it's always empty when I drive it. Suprise! :D), returned it to her work and ran a few errands with Jass. When I got home I went back to the garage and started assembling the O.D. 833 for the Dart. I stopped around 7:30 when I noticed a severe lack of threads in the tail shaft housing where the rear mount bolts on and relized I was hungry. Probably do consuming nothing but a 1/2 pot of coffee all day.

Do you guys still like pictures? Here's some shartnanigans photos from the last couple of days.

It's important to spay or neuter your primer. There are too many unwanted paint products in the world as it is. 😁

How do you like using the Assemblee Goo? I love that stuff... wouldn't build a transmission without it.
