What are you working on?

hey cow..any chance youve still got those halogen lights..and are they sealed or bulb replaceables..they look like they would be PERFECT in style to mount on moms new offroad chair

so how far back can i go....its been a few years and some cool stuff done

the thought of "spray foam" in a working garage/shop is a terrifying idea.....that shits like throwing water on a magnisum fire......with added toxicity......NOPE

built this 25year dream for mom for xmas...if you guys want ill GLADLY toss up the build of it..6 pages of pic's on imgur i can easily toss up in its own thread

its a very old dream....one i thought id NEVER be able to build...ver the years id basicly given up....someone offered to do some cad work for laser cutting for the lloyd and it got me thinking and i asked a local whos done a lil aluminum welding for me and he was like what about doing this and whipped up a cad of the adaptor plates ive been needing to do this..and sent me to "sendcutsend" and it was cheep ..he also turned the front hub spacers for me as well.....basicly made the whole thing possible

started the whole thing from SCRATCH on nov 6th...finished waxed n polished 2 days before xmas..mom wasnt the wiser..all this with PT apts killing every other day

old ppg DAR viper red and mack truck silver and dar9000 black

Post it!
I'm largely in an electric chair most times, and always when I go out.
I'd be looking at something like that for nature strolls, something I miss terribly.

Yes please post up a thread on your Mom's 4wd chair...always interested in any cool project build.

I still have the lamps from the Skid Steer...I don't toss out much. ;) They are a sealed beam unit...but all 3 lights worked before replacing them with the LED's.

BAH i was hoping they were non sealed with the bulb that pops out the back...its a shame too cause the shape n size look true to 80s honda styling...trying to get it all LED

ill drop a post bomb later then on the chair

Decided to attempt facebook groups. That seemed to go badly.
As does nearly anything with FB, hence my not using it anymore. If I wanted to argue I'd have gone to law school. The groups are the worst; a friend kept adding me to the Mopar ones. I kept deleting myself from them and setting "Do not allow anyone else to add me to this group". It was for essentially the same problem you have: The general public has reached a depth of stupidity that's nearly unbearable. I deal with it every day at work. I have no desire to come home and deal with it on my time.

69.5 Do the legs on the front casters flex side to side between the cross at the top and the axle? Obviously I can't see it in person but by looking at the pictures it just looks like a vertical rib of the same thickness would stiffen that up a lot with little weight gain. Perhaps its not a issue.

like you and many others i too questioned "flex" but youve got to remember your looking at solid barstock 1/4inch thick 2 inches wide....and what 14 ish inches long?

now see youve got 2 per wheel so your talking about 1/2inch thick slab of steel per wheel

the amount of flex 1 has while getting the wheel in is minimal and takes some FORCE...add the 1.5inch solid stock made spacers to center the hub and youve essentialy got another 1.5inch round solid bar at the center tieing it together....i attempted to flex one and hurt myself trying......assuming you could hit something sideways ate say 25-30mph you "might" flex it enough to rub but youd probably blow the tire at the forces required to flex it...the fact i welded the sides to 2x1 square tube probably helps too as its spreading the weld load

the beast is over built end to end and weighs in around 350lbs.....i weighed pieces and havnt dragged the race scales out hell 100lbs just in batterys

What does a guy do when he can't work on his car for a couple of weeks while the paint drys?
Work on the work space I guess.

I started running the pipe for my air system. I decided to hook both my new and old air compressors into the system. Each with a shut off valve so if one goes down I can isolate it and still have air. I also have a valve midway in the air line so I can shut half the system down if need be. Having both compressors in the system gives me 130 gallons of tank capacity and if I'm running something that uses a lot of air I can run both pumps.

I swapped the shocks in the washing machine to try and stop the rockin and rollin during the spin cycle.

It didn’t help. So, it’s likely a bad spider bracket, a bad bearing, or both.
Those will run about $700 after taxes and shipping.
So, yeah, we’re shopping for a new laundry pair.

I also ran 8 CAT6 cable from the furnace room into my office, and one more out to the rec room. I need to run one more to the rec room and get them both across to the far corner.

These will all terminate to a patch panel in a wall mounted rack. The rack will house all of my network gear as well.

note to self F the front load washers!!!!...thats insane pricing for parts
the most expensive bit in my washer/dryer set is the control boards...and the last pair of washer/dryer laster 40+ years..and these were 100% top of the line in the early 2000's

aint runnin cat fun?...ive always said there should be a phone and cable drop in every room since the early 80s...imagine being able to use the phone line to fish in cat and be done

before someone mentions wireless...wireless is GARBAGE for anything serious without a booster in every room

I was looking around and stumbled on to a vise comparison test on youtube.
So i decided to build one.
Not sure what i will use it for, but its father approved.
Likely used for pto shaft universal changes (driveshaft)general fabrication and maintenance jobs.
Either way most projects will fit.

Yeah, I had to resort to the “it ran for almost 10 years, so that means it cost us about 60 bucks a year to own”
It sounds a lot better when put that way.

I’d be happy to put 700 bucks in and get another 10 years but there’s no guarantee that will be the case and a whole new unit with a guarantee is only a couple hundred more.
It kinda sucks that its that way.

I’m replacing my CAT5 runs where I have them. So, that part is not bad.
Getting to the top floor was impossible without busting out a wall. Now I understand why the cable guy wouldn’t even try and just ran a cable around the outside of the house.

To me, if an appliance does what it should it doesn't need to be fancy. I bought an "apartment-size" washer/dryer pair used from an ex about 17 years ago for $200. I'd guess they were 6-8 years old at the time. Everything is electromechanical; the "control boards" are mechanical timer switches that activate various relays. No display, no tactile switches--there's not even a "cycle finished" buzzer--but damned if my clothes ain't clean. Similarly, my oven dates back to at least '91 and still cooks food without digital squat or easy-clean burners (which explains why it's filthy, but I digress). Turn a knob and something gets warm.

I’m replacing my CAT5 runs where I have them. So, that part is not bad.

Is that a worthwhile upgrade? I wired my house with CAT5e in 2002 and it seems to work just fine. Is there a speed advantage or something? Not that it really matters; I've never see anywhere near the speeds the IPs advertise, including at my old job in the industry. I've actually considered downgrading my connection since streaming really isn't a huge concern and I don't game.

my understanding of 6 is that its capable of better signal quality and full giga, for the average user you will never ever notice, for those of us who game, and have full gig in/out on the house and run servers yeah we notice every little bit helps!

as far as the W/D thing..mom bought new fancy digital kenmores in 1979/80 when we finished our first new house..state of the art they lasted untill sometime after 2000 with a board fail under warenty still in the early 80s, a dryer wheel/bearing in the late 90s and a single seal in the washer close to 2000...2001-3(memorys shot) the transmission failed and the dryer motor was on its way out......20+ years of abuse with so little cost in maintinance..so we bought replacements of the EXACT same type, and ya know what...20ish years on em and the washer coupler has broke a few times(overloaded) the dryers failsafe sensors have failed a couple times and i recently killed the dryer motor and the lid switch on the washer failed...honestly..if/when these fail to a point of needing new ones ill gladly buy the same upgraded models again with back to back 20+ year track records

both the stove top and double oven are old....i had to replace the 1960s units that were there as they couldnt be saved.(bad wiring and various other issues thruout)..but..the "new" double oven is a GM unit dated very late 60s, bulletproof and had sat since the mid 80s in the back of someones garage....the range..well...its the late 70s jenair with the interchangeable tops..had one in our first house..they are simple as a brick but insanly usefull...wife hated it then once she started swapping in the indoor grill and i got her the rotissery setup for it she raves about the vintage bastard .....new fangled and funky they are..but old and dumb as rocks they are too with every piece of them serviceable STILL.....of course getting a replacement griddle top is next to impossible....and id kill for one..nothing makes pnacakes better save for a old vintage dinner

Yeah, CAT6 or higher is only worth it if you have an Internet pipe that will let you take advantage of it OR a lot of local stuff for which you want to have snappy response.

I‘m in both categories now.
I was getting frustrated with the lack of configurability of the router that my ISP provided and went looking for a new service. While checking out the competition and wavering back and forth, my current ISP started offering Gigabit speed in my neighbourhood for 15 bucks more a month. That higher speed would mean a new router. So.... two birds. So to speak.

Also, with my new gig, I’ll have more gear in the house. It will all run at 1G or higher (the higher speeds will be direct connections, not CAT6) and I don’t want to stimey that in any way.

With regard to the washer, I’m considering pulling it all apart again to see what’s really needed. I think it’s just the spider bracket. If it’s just that, 250 bucks will solve it. I’ll probably go ahead and fix it.
If it’s the spider bracket AND the rear hub bearing, that’s the 700 bucks or so.

With all the bells and whistles this set had, the only problems we’ve ever had were mechanical.

Still, there IS the spectre of putting money into it only to have the whole thing go to hell in a couple months. It’s a gamble...
