What are you working on?

That 914 is a total basket case..

*Shudders*

I got suckered in to working on one of those a few years ago. Lifelong Ontario car with low mileage. It looked really good, straight, red and shiny.

It had more filler than all the parts stores in town. The rockers were literally held together with aluminum screen, fiberglass and hope.
Someone had welded up a perimeter frame to support the thing... it was the only solid steel on the car.

That was the only car I ever refused to work on. There was nothing to be done with it.
And it was frigging ugly, to boot!

The 914 is one of the only Porsche's I don't find attractive. In fact, given the option between a Porsche 911 and a 22 year old hot blonde stunner... Jester would choose the Porsche, then go cruising for hot dudes :hmmm: [smilie=J:

wait, what?

Wow, that actually looks awesome, 69... Not sure I've ever seen one with the race body kit.

Dunno why, but this body style 911 is pure sex to me:

see theres one of the multitude of early kits....soooo many badass early kits the 914 is just EVIL..gimmy a 911 turbo engine/taxle to swap in and lets go

I spent thanksgiving morning working up a apatite! I finished pulling the wood out of the cowl. I got the frame level on my hoist. I started making the stands that I'm going to anchor it to for the wood work portion of the build. I need the frame to be square, level, & true for the coachwork to fit properly. My hoist has a bit of "rock" to it so stands it is. I didn't take pictures of the stands today but I will tomorrow when I finish building the one for the rear. The front one is done but I need to bolt the frame to it.

I finished the stands. Got the frame level front to back, side to side, diagonally and firmly mounted on stands to keep it that way. I also ran a string down the exact center of the frame front to rear. This string will be used a s a reference point for building the coachwork wood for the body.

Let the carpentry begin!

Nice!
Take lots of measurements off of that string and record them... it's almost a guarantee that the string will get bumped at some point. Having a record saves a lot of re-measuring.

Some of that sheet metal looks real nice... :(

You going to use those stupid slot head screws, or you going to step up to some good 'ol Robertson head screws? Won't be original but the aggravation factor will be low. :)

Cool Mr. Stretch. Watching you work on all that very old vintage machinery convinces me that no way no how should I ever come into an inheritance or win a lottery.....

....it would be gone in a month......

Thanks for the advice. Just so you know, I'll be leaning on you quite heavily from this point on. :D :D :D

I have a note book that I'm recording those measurements in. I'm also drawing rough sketches in it to go with the measurements.

Yes, the bottom of every panel is J-U-N-K shit! Not that bad if you think about it really. It is 86 years old after all.

As for the screws. I am leaning towards the slot head screws and square nuts just like she was built.

Thanks. Wait until you see whats next!

Here's a teaser.

I love this car! Next to the Cord, this is my favorite!

if thats your trailer...and your picking up beautiful ladys like that..you should be ashamed of teh trailer..fix the fender..paint it..make it purdy

I dunno. Looks to me like a trailer that actually works, rather than just hauling show poodles around.

Besides - there is the classic case of the guy who is too busy fixing up other people's stuff to work on his own..... :D

lol dont i know it..but still..ladys like that deserve the best whenever possible..and its a good chance to rib him for it

It's not my trailer. I also need to talk to him about how he has the front of the car tied down. If that strap is pulled around the axle hes asking for strap failure.

I started on the coachwork carpentry today. This is going to be a tough job! Most of the wood in the car is NOT original to the car. Who ever tried to replace the wood the first time had no business touching carpentry tools! Looks like my hopes of using the original wood as patterns is not going to happen.

So here we go!
