What are you working on?

I'm not sure what it is but its a soft wood. It looks a lot like pine. All of the wood in the '28 is original. It too looks to be pine. Red and white oak is what Don Marsh recommends in his book.

Well I switched gears a bit and started working on my own stuff for a change. I took advantage of the long weekend (memorial day) and got to some things I've been putting off for some time now. One thing in particular was cutting down a big pine tree in my back yard. Lets just say that didn't quite go as planed. :D.

What that led to was me pulling my '74 dodge out and tonight I pulled the flat bed off and started cleaning 8 years worth of pine needles off and out of it. That has led to a small list of stuff to do.

It had brakes when I parked it but it doesn't now.
The gas filler neck is full of pine needles so I'm sure the fuel tank is too. The gas cap is on it so how the needles got in there is a mystery.
I want to put the step side box on but that's on hold until I clean the tank.
I'm sure it needs clutch work. I parked it for a vibration at speed. It had been sitting for a long time before I got it. I'm thinking there is a mouse nest in the clutch.
The carburetor needs to be rebuilt. Likely replaced do to the rather large fire I had under the hood the last time I tried to start it. :D

After I get it running and driving I'll deal with the oh so shitty exhaust! :D

Hope the tree didn't hit the house!

It was nowhere near the house or the garage. Hit my shed pretty good though. The only damage was the dish for the T.V. and my ribs, thigh, knee, ankle and pride! Wow that went backwards fast! All was good until just before we cut through. The wind picked up and backwards she went. When I saw it going the wrong way (towards me) I turned to run. I was between the shed and truck, I tripped over a pile of mopar stuff and fell next to the truck. That was scarey as hell! I thought it was going to land on my back or be spiked to the ground by one of the branches. Lucky for me the truck and the shed had my back. Nothing touched me. I crawled out and didn't even know I was banged up as bad as I am until the next night. The car parts My fat ass fell on beat th shit out of my left side. Lots of purple skin. :D

Wow....glad your alright, and thank goodness for trusty trucks and sheds! :D

My neighbour and I were trimming his big Cherry tree earlier this year. We had a few close calls ourselves. Amazing how those limbs sometimes don't end up anywhere near where you plan. :D I too had to run to get out of the way of falling branches, and a couple nearly sent my neighbour flying off the ladder.

Spent some time on the truck again.

Years ago I bought a '73 350 auto Thermoquad at a swap meet for $50.00 or less, I don't remember for sure. I also had a rebuild kit "in stock" I'm not sure where it came from but it was complete with jets, rods, tubes, multiple gaskets for the base and bowl. I've never seen one so complete. I took the T-quad apart yesterday only to find I was pretty much wasting my time. It looks to have been rebuilt and never had gas in it sense. I've never seen a cleaner one.

Today I reassembled it and ran through the FSM and preformed all of the "bench adjustments". I pulled the one that burned off of the engine and installed the rebuilt one. I need to pick up some vacuum hose and bend up a new fuel line from the tank. Someone ran rubber from the tank to the carb years ago.

Lastly, I put a 340 air cleaner assembly on and threw the chevy junk that came with it in the woods behind the house. I'm guessing thats why I started on fire the last time I tried to start it. Suicide I'm thinking!

Uh, did you check all the numbers on the "tubes" (which are jets), jets, and rods to make sure they were identical? Or did you just recalibrate your 340 carb to 318 Lean Burn specifications?

Good call.

What you had was probably a recalibration kit of some kind. There's really no reason to include jets and metering rods in a standard rebuild kit since they're non-wearing parts. It's kind of like replacing the drag link on most Mopars when doing a steering linkage rebuild. :wtf:

Quick update on the dart: The 440 block is getting line honed. As it turns out, the main studs that were in the indy aluminum block 572 will in fact work just fine in a stock block with stock caps. Might as well use them since I have them. Thus the line honing. Also, the crank that was in the 572 has an 8 bolt flange, and my stock 440 crank has a 6 bolt flange. There is a spacer that gets sandwiched between the flexplate and crank as a part of the adapter setup to mate the powerglide to the mopar engine. I had a machine shop make me one of those but with the correct 6 bolt pattern.

For the time being, yes. That's all I can afford. Then the 572 will be reincarnated, probably as an e-85 motor. In fact, the 440 may well find itself in that situation.

I fired up the '74 dodge yesterday. It fired right up once it had fuel and runs great. I haven't even turned a screw to tune the carb yet. I'm pretty happy about that. I also got the box set on the frame. Bolting it down today. I need to drop the clutch inspection cover today too. It either has the wrong flywheel or one hell of a mouse nest in the clutch. It has a hell of a shake when the R's are off idle. It feels real heavy and gets heaver as the rev's increase. It doesn't change with the clutch in or out or with the gear it is in.

this i want vid of bad!...on a side note..3/4 ton springs make for some GREAT lift and soakability...however you should cut off the shock bump stops and bolt/weld a plate to the back of the shock towers..you WILL crack the frame right up the shock tower bolt holes

wifes been sorting and organizing ALL of my parts...what took up the space of a 10x20 carport with 2 rows of 6 foot speedrack packed to the gills, a string of 20x6 speedrack and 2 24x8 speedracks ALL packed to the gills now fits on 3 racks ....im baffled as nothings been tossed out

meanwhile im cleaning up setting up stuff for her..and getting ready to build something EPIC..well..atleast to me..a car stack shelf...store 8 cars in the space of 4 in the dry for under 1k
