Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

The previous owner put solid motor mounts in, that baby don't budge even when you rev it, tranny mount I'll have to check or have checked, thats what was on there, seemed in good shape but I can't be positive, what would go bad, the rubber seperating from the base? Thanks for all your help, keeps the head scratching from drawing blood! Rich.

Do you know if it's a spool or biscuit-style trans mount? It should be a spool (through-bolt) style being as new as it is, but regardless it's easy to check.

Jack the car up, support it on stands. Grab the transmission and try to move it up and down or side to side. If you can move it more than about 1/8" in any direction, it's shot. I would suggest using Energy Suspension's polyurethane inserts for the original mount rather than using rubber again. Also, though the solid motor mounts are virtually unbreakable, the vibration might get to you on long drives. At the least, I'd put a stock motor mount on the passenger's side (that one never breaks as it's under compression). A company named DynaTech makes rubber-isolated fail-proof mounts for your car. I think they're still available through Year One and other outlets. I used 'em on the Charger with great results.

Yea, if I ever get to the long cruise stage!:shifty:
I think the other guy was setting this up to race, it's really not the cruiser I need, the 74 will serve that purpose, but that might take another 10 years!:D
I'll know when I get it to the point I'm comfortable with takin it out on the highway & up to 70 or 75 crusin speed & see if I need ear & kidney protection. For right now I'll stick to the local 30 or 40 mile stuff (to keep the tow back home fee's to a minimum) :naughty:
340 bros are bout 70 miles or so, that might be my first attempt, at least I have guys with some knowhow & tools at the end or the run!:toot: Rich.

I found a pick of the mount, it's this type(cause I don't know the difference!:o

Its good to see it out on the road. I might be free next weekend to come down and help you iron out the little things. give me a call during the week

Sounds good, hope to have much of it done by then, I'll let the pros align it & maybe change the speedo cable, greese all the fittings & double check my brake job. I don't know how far they will get with fine tuning or if we even can, might need carb work (that bog on hard acceleration) but hopefully we can at least take her on the highway & see what else "POPS UP" or OFF!:dgt:
I can always swap out the carb for the newer eddy on the 74 ! that might tune better.
Hope to see ya next weekend, see if Don can make it too, he hasn't seen the "finished" (if they ever are) product! :toot: Rich.

OK, we are on, give me an eta & let me know if Don can make it too, only set back might be the old folks(no not me & the wife) but our parents, so far they are ok, saw mine this weekend & their holding up ok, wifeys mom been have a rough time, onset of alzheimers, but her brother's supposed to be going this sunday(it was our day to babysit) So unless you get a call sat night, mini nuts is on!

Any other nuts wanna make the drive, the more the merrier! Rich.

Your speedo cable could probably just use a lube. If you can get the cable free from the back of the cluster, try and get a little lube in there. I like to use air tool oil. I've quieted down a few cables this way, pour in the oil, then let it site over night, but the longer the better, then take it out and listen to your quiet cable....maybe. ;)

Thought I replied to this, well I will now, i was thinkin wd40, but might be to thin & evaporate, So I tried your air tool oil & wa la, she's good to go, took another test drive, filled up the tank, no leaks so far, but my guage barley got to 3/4 had him try again & we could see gas in the fill tube, so she's definatly full ,any adjustments on these short of pulling the sending unit!
Jass, it is a clip in cabel, thats what the thin raised part was, the release. switched my heater cables to the right spots on the control, but now I can get heat or defrost to blow in the right spots but it won't move to the off position.
still got the klunk did not check the tranny mount yet, may wait till she's on a lift wensday! gettin there! Rich.

thats why when i want a proper working fuel guages i floor test and tweak before install..there is no adjustment short of bending or changing the stops on the sender itself....break out an elec fuel pump and pump the fuel out into cans..hook up by the fuel pump with 3-4 feet of line and some 5gal cans
