My ThinkPad is 13 years old--back when it was IBM, not Lenovo. The battery doesn't hold a charge anymore, half the keys don't work, and for some reason the network card runs terribly slowly... it's really not good for anything other than music anymore. My Dell Inspiron is essentially dead. No USB, no sound, network card is sketchy, battery is dead as is the CD drive and floppy. Once I have all the data off that, I'll probably shit-can it.
I have a newer laptop I bought solely to tune my fuel injection; it hasn't been used for much of that yet but it's all set to do so. It's a Dell I bought off-lease for about half the cost of an equivalent brand-new machine in terms of speed, memory, etc. without a scratch on it. 1.8GHz Core2, 2GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, 14" screen. It was less than $300 to my door. If I could get a better signal, I'd piggyback off one of my neighbors' wireless and shut my cable off altogether.
