What are you working on?

a rails a rails a rail honestly...there was a time when i was stupid enough to buy em off the snapon truck..ive bought craftsman ones...at the end of the day ive found that even the cheep ass HF ones are as good as the snapon ones
I bought some Craftsman rails at one time, they had handles on them. HF rails are just rails. There's not much to it, they either hold the sockets or they don't. If the clips slide off the rails, just bend the ends just a little bit so they can't do that.

You guys have all got it easy. I have 3 garages with a loaded stand-up in each. Every tool is in triplicate with many random extras. And as agreed, rails are KING. I would rather guess at the size at the car, rather than walk back-n-forth.

LOL ive got 3 stand up boxes all in the same shop...and yeah SAE ive got in so much that i actualy had to pack a bunch of it up into a "did you lose something pull from here"....metric ive got less of...the nice part tho about having about 8 feet of tool box is being able to spread and sort a bit more..well sorta..packed full single drawer for flathead another for philips, a drawer dedicated to hammers another to sledge/mallet etc...every drawer has a meaning and all but the metric wrench drawer needs more space

I use the holders at home and similar set up at work. Granted I use them daily and pretty much know what size socket I'll need befor I start and a quick glance at the bolt confirms right away.

I'll get a pick of my work set up. It's built into the Matco bo. But 100% customizable. It's pretty slick.

up early after spending a couple weeks waiting on parts, dialed in my old 1980 xl500s, trading it for a low mile deer hit 06 scion xb...about to go drive 14 hours...wife wanted it BAD...

Lol!
I've only got two roll cabinets and a top chest with two side cabinets, but like you, doubles, triples, and extras in every box. And I've downsized since I retired.
Plus the six drawer cabinet in my basement.
A buddy bought a really nice service cart from HF last year and I've been eyeballing one for myself. General brand, I think...

to be fair those units are seriously nicely built..i too have been eyeballing em, however, one of my boxes is one of the "older" designs from costco...stainless....and i fucking LOVE the drawer position, layout, and size..all said imo its the perfect box atleast for me...i just wish i had 1-2 more of em, the 2 smaller craftsmans are SHIT compared to it...and even shit compared to the HF "general" units
hell some of the HF units even have a nice layout if you look at the "big" units....im partial to the 4ft? long units like my costco stainless...

This is a toaster isn't it?

that poor unfortunate soul

close but ..NOPE

left at 730am grabbed a uhaul trailer cause well..taking OR trailers into WA for aanything more than 50 miles or so and you start running into cops who like to give you shit....we dont plate our trailers here unless they are HEAVYWEIGHT or RV..and im talking 10,000lb+....so while i have a trailer more than cabable..55$ for piece of mind of no cops even glancing at a "rental" is worth the money, let alone free roadside that comes with it

had to load the 1980 xl500s up which was trick, was out on the road by 9am no need to stop for 200 miles for fuel, another 200 miles another stop, seems it was out at a shop in the woods, and the main road in had an accedent and fire..so detours of gravel..woot

cool guy cool guy at the shop..tons of cool shit laying around...the altitude change, and weather systems really fucked up my head tho..by the time i got there i was fuzzy...on the way home my wife had to take over..the old injury and migrane was too much to keep my eyes focused while trying to stave off the pain.

shes hauled "small" light loads before ..this was her biggest load ever and about 300 miles or so of it in wind and pissing rain in mostly the dark..we got home, unloaded and trailer returned by around 4am

pics will come..im scattered right now

I've done a bunch of those bonzia runs...20, 24, 28 hour runs there and back with no sleep, or maybe an hour or two at a rest stop somewhere. Might be a little easier for me since I have been trucking most of my life. ;)

Hope the migraine doesn't beat you up too badly...rest up and relax for a day or two!

ive ALWAYS suffered migranes, never knew what a "headache" was..in fact i assumed what i got was headaches till i had it explained to me in my 20's LOL.....however my head injury has made them very altitude change , presure system from storm chnage triggers, so if a storm rolls in slow taking its sweet time i may not get one..if the presuure fluxuates hard and fast you better bet im getting kicked in the head by the rented mule all day....ive got meds for it but failed to pack em along
so a drive from basicly sea level to the high plains desert and back..oh yeah that did a number on me..one of the worst ive had

Air pressure changes always get me, fast or gradual. Sometimes they develop into migraines, most times they don't.
Lately though, I've had some massive stay-in-bed-with-the-lights-off migraines brought on by muscle weakness in my back and neck. Those are killers!
Ocular migraines are a new one for me in the last few years. No pain, but geez: what a dis-orienting feeling that is. Typically done and over with in under an hour, but they strike with little warning.

Last few years I have been starting to get the Any-light-is too-bright migraines...even had one hit me at work, and I work nights, but the street and car lights were too much and even with my sunglasses on I struggled to get home.

trip 1.......
1/31
spoke with the guy a few times, cut him down on price..got it for 600, drove away and left it there, continued on to a friends place way up north grabbed his truck and MY dolley from him and brought it back...400 mile day....

the guy i got it from got another one with lower miles..wrecked...so he was parting this one out to put it back together...nothing wrong with it tho...and wifes LOVING it...this was found by mistake AFTER trip#2 deal had allready been made..

over the next week i made multiple 800 mile round trips chasing parts.....yes thats new dodge green

its quite the fun rig, and shes allready logged a couple thousand miles on it, got about 800 into it including tires and another set of wheels....at this point just needs paint

since the begining of febuary ive STILL been making runs all over OR/WA snagging XB parts, little things for the 1st run IE XB2(its an 08 gen2)..to which i now am missing NOTHING even snagged a hitch TRD exhaust and some other goodies...but also ive been chasing XB1 parts as well for the deal id made but the road conditions were keeping me from..felt weird as hell buying parts for a rig i hadnt even seen in person yet

run2

it should be noted i traded this 1980 honda xl500s for it..and if you dug back thru posts youd find it somewhere posted here where id picked up a 150$ bike that was ugly as fuck and mostly restored it..i put about 200 or so into it over many years..and was religated as a "loaner" bike when i got my xl600r...it hadnt been riden since before 2013..as thats when its OHV tags expired..also..no title..but bikes are easy

i spent a week leasierly rebuilding the carb and re-lubing the bike and prettying it up..it had a good amount of overspray on it....even took it for a ride around the block and tuned it

now this was the 800 mile hell run....wife has ALWAYS wanted one of these..and i couldnt so much as hear it run before bringing it home..title in hand..no cash traded hands, however now she has something she can never complain about..my packratting and hording has hung onto that bike for no good reason...and it got her the xb shes always wanted...

150k miles on it, and more than 1 inch of reciepts mostly done at the dealer, as well as a short list of aftermarket and dealer addons, hell the tires were put on in 2021 and are NEW....it looks WAY worse than it is..deer hit, intake manifold was broken, as well as engine ground and fuse box...HOWEVER, the radiator and AC condensor survived?!?!?!..yet the fan did not...luck?, after doing another turn n burn 400 mile ar 6 am after a 3am shift ive got neerly every part i need for it...since id been grabbing parts since before i got it home.....FWIW finding parts in a wrecker for these is HELL they get stripped FAST so you have to beat the other yard rats to them and then fight them off as you pull parts

after getting it running and all the busted glass out(or so i thought heaters full of it) i got it into the shop and well, i "had" a long list based on pics he sent me, of which id managed to knock out part of befor picking it up..like the entire front core support, HOWEVER the front of the strut tower is "cosmeticly" bent..and i needed the extension fende rmount rail as well..or atleast part of it..all said ive got about 250 into it and all i still need is a windshield, headlights and a bumper...got lucky and got most of it when the pick n pulls were running 25$ body panels....

inbetween thos 2 trips, the washer transmission went out, so i went thru and rebuilt the thing as well as the main shaft and all the seals, said unit was bought in 2000...its a fully digital version of the old archaic kenmore 90 series so parts are relitively cheep

at the same time the cars "noise" went up...its ALWAYS rattled since NEW and the dealers told my wife many different bullshit to shut her up..one of them even told her its emergancy brake rattle...uh from the engine bay? whys it go away once warm....

anyway at just around 120k it let go.....and was full loud full time..WTF?!?!?..ive ALWAYS assumed it was VVT noise..and well..i was kind right the chain guide had litteraly let go and the tensioner had nothing left to give....ive been eating crank position sensors like candy..and now know why...i knew something was SERIOUS when the previous sensor came out with shavings on it

the timing chain guide was never torqued from the factory and no thread lock...this is the non tensioner side, so the bolts walked out over the years, and the tensioner litterly shows the stages of failure, the block wear from the guide, the bolts polished and groved...it was carnage!...but the lil 1.5 just sucked it up and soldiered on

it bears mentioning that..as ugly as these pics are it was religiously maintained by the DEALER untill end of warranty at which time my wife still got dealer "deals" and she would go get the oilchanged....but...also keep in mind living on a small island ment alot of oil cook
