What are you listening to right now?

I didn't mind GFL's first release, but I haven't really cared for anything since.

As far as that photo, it would be hard to look any douchier. They look like the abandoned love children of Janis Joplin and Liberace (if he'd swung that way).

Been really into Melodic Techno, Progressive house, India/Asia/Middle eastern trap mixes and such lately...

That is one handsome ape there.

To catch my ear it needs to sound like there was at least a guitar in the building where it was recorded.

Now playing:

People love to hate on Neil but it would be hard to say this isn't great

Yeah dawg, he's pitchy. Can't take away from that performance though.

The guy is loaded with talent, no doubt.

It's just when he opens his mouth to talk, I stop listening. But, the same can be said for many of his colleagues.

I guess I consider myself lucky in the respect that the musicians I like largely know their places and generally keep their mouths shut. I've found Ted Nugent's music childish and annoying since I was myself a child, and people like Neil Young would rather make a political statement than an enjoyable song. Also, Neil has sounded like an old woman since he was a young man and Ted never could sing.

Fun side note: A gal whom I knew in high school married Ted Nugent's nephew, so to her he was literally Uncle Ted.

I would've laughed at that without the literal translation. How I'd never seen that video previously is beyond me; I watched a fair amount of MTV back when it was Music Television (early/mid-1980s) and somehow missed this one.

On second thought, the majority of my MTV consumption was Headbanger's Ball, so that might explain it. 😁

I wondered if that was Aimee Mann in the video floating around with the boys. It was. She also sang on the original track.

It's not the material to which I'm listening at the moment, it's what I'm using to do it. I'm breaking in a set of new old stock RCA (Radio Shack) Pro LX550s. They're more than two decades old but have never been out of their boxes until about an hour ago. Based on prior experience (Pro LX5s), the tweeters on these things are amazing. I expect the woofers will need some run-in time before they start to show their true colors.

What? No way. You had heard it before though, right? Those are some of Neil's best lyrics, in the top 3 at least IMO.

Please tell me you've seen Aimee's "Voices Carry" video.

There was a point where I quit with MTV. IIRC it coincided with Duran Duran taking things over, or maybe it was when I was no longer hanging out with someone who was paying for it :D

Oh, I've heard the song itself plenty. I wasn't aware that Aimee sang the female part, though.

"Voices Carry" is on my playlist in both the house and garage. Yes, I've absolutely seen the video for it, although I did need to see a still photo to jar my memory. I've always liked that song; it was one of my non-metal "guilty pleasures" at the age when my metalhead buddies desperately hid their ABBA and BeeGees albums (not joking; it was years before admissions started being made 😂).

Another guilty pleasure is/was Duran Duran's "The Reflex", so there's that... just that one song, though.

For the most part, I abandoned MTV when they started their first "series", that being Remote Control (a game show). If I wanted f__kin' game shows, CBS already had plenty. I had no use for "just another network" and tuned out. I did hang in with Headbanger's Ball in an ever-decreasing amount for a few years, but that was the only time I watched.

I remember it when there were no advertisers and there was/is a FCC reg that they had to take a break every so often, so once an hour they would put on some blurred out stuff, reminiscent of what you got back then when you tried to tune in the playboy channel but hadn't paid for it.

Despite my intense hatred of Duran Duran and everything they stood for, the truth is that "growing up" ended my MTV days. That and having to pay for it myself instead of sponging off friends.
