65 Valiant build

Today was rear panel day. I had to repair a small 1 inch section of the right side edge. I forgot to take pictures of that but I did get one of the completed repair. After that I had to add weld to close up a bad gap near the trunk lid where the rear pannel meets the quarter. The stamping was not straight and it didn't fit well before I cut the panel off of the car. Then I made a patch for the left side. That is a bigger rust hole. I'll fit and weld it in once I finish welding the panel to the car.

The 1st picture is the 1 inch patch on the right side. The 3rd picture is where I fixed the gap.

I did a little more welding after work last night. I had hoped to finish the rear panel but I ran out of 75/25 before I could start on the final patch.

I finished the rear valance this past Sunday.
Next I plan to hang the doors and front fenders. I need to repair the lower "dog leg" area on both fenders. I want them on the car to make sure I don't introduce a twist and to make sure my lines stay correct.

A few pictures of Sundays repair work.

That reminds me of the first 'Cuda, lots o patches, funny I must be getting senile, I miss that part of the work. guess the fact I hate wiring so much leads to wanting more punishment.
It is nice to walk off a bit & look back when a big piece just went on & you can't see thru the car anymore!

I have finished the metal work . That includded repairing the dog leg on each front fender. Now I'm on to paint removal and then the body work. 1000005025.jpg1000005025.jpg20240915_123523.jpg20240915_181040.jpg20240915_130714.jpg20240915_130727.jpg20240915_130736.jpg20240915_133908.jpg20241021_190029.jpg20241023_193227.jpg

Anyway, more pics.

Nice work, as usual.
Are you going to epoxy-prime before filler work, or go directly to filler over bare steel?

What do you recommend?
For anything left in bare steel for ay length of time, I like to get it into epoxy primer as soon as the bare steel is exposed, sandblasted, etc. You can apply filler directly over the epoxy after scuffing it with 220-ish or a good red scotchbrite.
Two full-wet coats. You can roller it on, spray it, brush it... a panel at a time, or a whole side if you prefer. Wash and wipe first with a quality wax and grease remover or final wipe solution. Hand prints, atmospheric moisture, fine mist from air lines... all killer to a paint job.
The epoxy can sit for years if not exposed to UV light or heavy weather. Bare steel... not so much.
