1982 Cordoba Stock Car.

I never had to use the brakes to start turning doughnuts, and I'd guess I've done maybe 2-3 brake-stand burnouts in my entire life. Mind you, I've done some hellaciously-long burnouts in my life, but usually to start a street race (sometimes I was just pissed and beating on the car), but it was usually the result of just loading the converter or side-stepping the clutch. At the track, where I had time to prep a little, I'd just go around the water box, do a short dry burnout to clean the treads, and flat-out launch. I actually think the longest-distance first-gear burnout ever done in any of my cars was by my Mom in my Challenger. I would guess she hazed 'em for about 150'-175', and no--I wasn't even in town, much less with her. I did see the black marks, though, and she caught rubber into second to boot. :D

She never admitted it, but she had my car that day. The only thing she ever said to me was, "That car has way too much power."

When I rebuilt the 440 that was in my '74 duster, I put a set of 215-somethingorother radials on the back to keep me from really loading it until I felt it was broken in. I had bumped the compression up to 10.5:1, put in a much larger cam, etc. Realistically it was making about 475 hp at the time. It would spin the tires in any gear at just about any speed as long as you held the pedal to the floor. I had a stupid bitch tailgating the hell out of me in a honda accord a week or so later, and I had not yet changed the tires. I rolled into it at about 30 mph and stayed in it until it started to hook slide toward the curb. The burnout was literally probably not too far from an 1/8th of a mile. She stayed right the hell away after that. It took her a while to catch up, but when she did there was no more tailgating.

2 footin in HS i could hold my cuda sideways for 1/8th mile of straight road faceing either direction....i could litteraly point and shoot that car how and where i wanted it at whatever angle i wanted in the straights or in the corners..didnt right matter....these days they call it drifting..me i was sscrewing around and knowing my car all too well

Oh I see what your saying. Is that center windshield bar even necessary then? Other then safety I guess, same as the main hoop center bar running front to back.

Yeah that rocker panel bar is about the same height as the mounting point for the J bar, if I went to it, it would be almost level.

So something like this then? I added the other right side door bars.

Yes! Now you've got it. You don't need to add the door bars though. As for the center windshild bar. We wern't alowed to have them. I'm not sure why.

My car was a 4 speed and I drove it two footed. Once I had it in gear (no need to shift once we were racing) I used my right foot on the brake.

My cage came with those 4 door bars, shouldn't I add them for structural symmetry or add just have two on that side?

I'm not sure why but I would like to put all four there since that cage kit came with them. I'll just add less vertical supports.

Got some more bars done today!

Finished up the rear braces and the rear half of my "J" bar.

Nice lookin cage. Nice lookin work. Now I see what you were talking about with the halo sitting on top of the main hoop and the rear bars welding to the gussets.

As for the right side door bars. Less is better. We talked about that didn't we. Now lets see who out there can guess why you don't want extra bars over there.

Thanks man! :)

I try my best. :D

Yeah those fewer door bars make sense after our discussion.

Got some more done.

The top half of the cage is all done.

Seat bracing is done and the seat belt tabs are all mocked up and ready for welding.

These two are the last bars to add to the cage before I close it up.
