Picked up my wife's new car

Screw it. Give me the red AND blue pills.
Well, we're on our trip and have picked up my wife's new car in South Dakota. My mom bought this brand new in '90. I know it's not a rare car, or even a special car, but it is to our family. Mom's not able to drive anymore and wanted her car to be taken care of - she looked to me to make this happen. That alone makes me feel pretty damn good that she realizes I take care of my cars and will do that same with this one.

It's a '90 Dodge Spirit ES with 61,000 actual miles and has been well maintained over the years. New A/C from compressor to all lines etc, new tires, struts and other misc. parts. Before we picked it up I had a good friend of mine rebuild the heads because of the typical 3.0 valve guide issue which causes some oil burning and would have kept me from getting it through the smog tests in AZ. Now it runs so smooth you can't feel it running at idle. We drove it to the UP of Michigan where my mom now lives with my oldest brother and averaged 28.5 mpg with it - very happy with that. Comfortable, super clean and really an enjoyable car to drive.

I'll be detailing it when I get back to AZ in a couple of weeks, but for the most part it's a super clean car. Should be a good car for my wife to drive - and she's happy to have it which is awesome.

We'll be making the 3000+ mile trip back to AZ starting next Monday and are looking forward to it.

One quick question - It's been raining here (something we're enjoying!) so I can't crawl under the car right now. On of the driving / fog lights are out. Does anyone know if that's something that can be replaced from behind like a headlight or similar? If I get the chance, I'd like to replace it before we leave in a few days.

Thanks in advance for any help on that.

Looks a lot like the Spirit my daughter had a few years back. Hers was a 2.5 and had almost 200K when she sold it. Not many of those are still surviving in this area. The drivetrains last forever but they rusted pretty bad. The front floorboards are the first to go.

If the foglights don't have screws in the lenses they have to come out the back.

Where are you in the UP? Anywhere near the Doc?

What route are you taking back?

I'm near Gwinn / Marquette right now. I'm not sure of the highway numbers but our route will take us down along the lake(s) on the west side, through Greenbay etc and into the eastern end of Iowa on the first day to see wife's brother and his family. We're actually making two family stops on the way back to AZ. The second will be in Texas to see my wife's sister and her family.

What part of MI is Jass in?

You'll be passing thru Milwaukee, (about 50 miles from me)
If you plan it right, if you can get to Chicago about midnite, take I94 right downtown. You'll save almost 2 hours time and over $20 in tolls.

Doc is in Kingsford, on the SE skirts of Iron Mountain;

You'll be travelling down the East side of WI and towards Eastern Iowa, (which is to the West of WI)
Somewhere you'll have to cross the whole state of WI. :hmmm:

I'm in Iron mnt every day. It would be nice to see you guys.
