Not A Duster's Most Excellent Progress

Well been an especially long 2.5 weeks at wurk many double+ shifts in a row & a lot of time out of town. Finally got today off, slept in til 10 AM & planned to recharge my batteries some. Did some housewurk and then worked on the hotrod until 11PM....

My bumper showed up while I was outta town. Being that I never got the one that was supposed to come from Mark Nixon, I got the re-chromer guys to fix the bent up one from the Dart Sport. They fixed it up nice - but it was a $300.00 touch I was not expecting...:(

Finished all the underhood wiring today - including the distributor, coil and the electronic ignition upgrade. I wanted to show you the neat little piggyback wiring terminals I found at the local electronics store. Nice way to "splice" stuff without having to hack up the wiring. The original & new wire both just push on the terminal. Pic 3 shows the finished install at the ballast resistor, you can hardly tell anything has been added.

Hopefully, you can make out the connector in the first two pics. For some reason the camers focused on the beer in the background and not the connector. (Not that I've never been distracted by a beer........)

For those of you who have never seen him, this is my best friend & garage helper/companion. His name is Duke and he is a malamute/wolf cross. He used to be about 135 pounds, but he has shrunk a bit with old age.

Today is his 12th birthday, which makes him a very old dawg. We celebrated by him getting 4 times his regular doggie treat rations and me drinking beer.

We were both quite happy with that arrangement. This is him waiting for some of those treats this afternoon....

Back to the car.

Show of hands: Who all has a couple "magic bolt bins?"

Anything I have ever taken apart that gave up it's fasteners has donated to mine. It's very handy to have automotive fasteners laying around to use.

I needed a couple today for the coil bracket to bolt into the Edelbrock intake.

Pic 1 - said bracket cleaned up and clearcoated..

Pic 3 - the magic bolt bins.

Pic 3 - crusty old bolts cleaned up and ready to use...

I truly believe that the magic bolt bin is one of the most useful items in any car guy's shop....

Pic 4 is the electronic distributor from the 340 - I wanted to put a FBO rig in, but ran outta cash....so I cleaned this unit up as best as I could. Rotary wire brushes in bench grinders are a huge time & money saver.

And finally, the finished engine.

Note the chromed air cleaner lid. My Christmas gift from wifey....

All that's left to do in the engine compartment is put the master cylinder back in, install the fuel lines and lower rad hose and she should be ready to fire up.........(we need crossing fingers smiley....)

I missed some posts & didn't reply to them.

Mopar Man: I did keep the slugs from cutting out the gauge holes....they are hanging on the wall as trophys of a sort....[smilie=i:

Boot - I dunno the dimensions of that wheel - I can measure it for you if you like.

Time for another beer.

Did I mention that wifey's outta town?

You still haven't talked about the mayo incident with the car...:wtf: :D
Sorry but it's got me curious. :shifty:

Was a while ago you mentioned it in some other thread...don't feel like digging for it so I guess we'll never know. :( :D

$300 to re-chrome a bumper isn't a bad deal, I paid that much back in '94. :( ......sure is perty though.

:wtf: I have 2 totes for "bolt bins", however mine seem to be of the evil sort ya know, everything you ever need is there until you actually NEED it[smilie=d:

I actually took the time to sort out the "mystery bolt bin" and put them in one of the multi drawer bins--------lot of the bolts disappeared???
Looks fantastic Nodda!!! Gotta drive it down here one of these days!!!:giggedy:

Ah yes, I love our magic bolt bins. Rarely do they let me down. :D

Nice work nodda! That bumper does look sweet. And I like the pic of Duke the doggie too.

I've got enough magic bolt bins to open a hardware store! :D

The car is looking awesome nodda, cool dog too. ;)

Like 68 said, I don't think that's too bad but when it's unexpected, it's always too much. I can't remember what my dad's bumper on his Mustang cost to get done. Some place in Calgary straightened and rechromed it.

I had me one of those after swapping the 318 to the 340. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. :hmmm:

Uh huh... I remember helping you try to decipher the mystery as we were putting the thing in....

Jodaddy - I have a bunch or "sorted" bolt bins as well - these are just the left-overs....misc. automotive fasteners that don't fit any specific Mopar category....

I also have some "nut and bolt bins " I call 'em 5 gallon pails.....

I am still very happy with the colour, but the more time I spend with the car, the more I realise just how badly I was screwed on the paint. Not only is there orange peel and pock-marks in the paint, but I'm starting to notice an awful lot of dirt imbedded in the paint. Being that the bodywork & paint is the one area I chose to have "professionals" do rather than attempting it myself, it's starting to feel like an insult

Noda...That's too bad about the finish...is it Base ?
