Greeting folks & welcome to another season of Team 440 Drag racing news. If Ryan's & my plans went as planned it would really be something. We had planned of a few days spent on CUDA. You know, all fluid changed, plugs & a fresh tune up, new slicks, a test & tune day .............. Well as it tuned out we washed it & headed to the track for our 1st race of the season. I suppose it no different than 1 weekend to the next except the 6 month in between.

Check the thumb nails for our new addition the the racing equipment. before & after shots.

We managed to get 4 time trials in before racing began & CUDA was it ussual consistant self running all runs between 7.61 & 7.65 & ryans last 3 reacttion times were 5.12, 5.03 & 5.28. we knew we're in the money before we started.:)

CUDA started the season with 2 pretty easy wins against less experienced drivers. the third race was against last years rookie of the year (female) in a 69 chevelle. She staged early when she moved quickly lighting up both bulbs before Ryan had lite his first bulb. So of coarse its a guarentied win by letting her sit for about 10 second staring at the tree with burning eye balls. (bink & its over). RYan treed her with a 5.30 to her 6.40. bye bye. Next a quick 67 crapmaro who pulled off a 5.30 to ryans 5.40 reacton but a 7.64 on a 7.63 dial gave us the win. then a bye run found us in the semi finals. In racing the more things are kept the same the better you do. I didn't check the water trap before because i saw a track attendent beside it, i thought he freshen it up but he didn't. CUDA didn't get a good burn so i changed the routine & had ry dry hope. Well he went red & we ended up third. not a bad first outing.

next race 2 weeks. lomg weekend.

Hey, Those must be 1/8 times, ever get any 1/4 times? Ever make any money on the street with that car? Cool ride!
Speed

speedracer. yup, them be 1/8th times. i think CUDA would be a high 11 second car in the quater. i wouldn't do any hard street racing for money. the occational red light war maybe, but there's just to much at risk. let the track do the talking & put $ in your pocket.

snowmobile engine in cart has been discussed for another project.

That would be awesome!

Hey! We should sticky this thread and Greg can update it as the season progresses...... Yes? No?

Thank God. only 1 week to go before our 1st big weekend of the year. Ryan & i decided we were only running big events this year & not the local regular program. That will give both of us a lot more wife time. That folks is pretty important.

So Check things out after the weekend of the 9th for our next update.

The following weekend we're off to North Bay. HEY SANDWICH you still around.

HEY HEY race fans. welcome to a TEAM 440 update.

Man am i beat. i forgot how tired you can get after 2 days in the sun:huh:hydrating on beer. lol:dance: i guess that could be what kept me going. Ryan was on water (you know, he's the driver.)

1st big race weekend & we were so happy just to make it to the track after the crap we went through last week:dance:. weather man did his just job so the rest of it was up to us. good car count with all the heavy hitters there as expected. lucky to get in 4 time trials before the real action started. CUDA was doing its thing running only 3 one hundreds different during all testing. Ryan was cutting lights from a .501 to .528 it was obvious the rust had settled in to ryans brain because i concider anything under a .520 a BAD light. (let me explain).

When the racing gets REAL tuff in the later round you have to push the tree a little getting closer to that .500 bulb. we do that by just rolling a liitle deeper into the staging lights & dropping the hammer at the same place on the bulbs every time. Why flert with desaster by cutting a .499 or lower & beat yourself. ALWAYS give yourself a chance to win. got it.

So the first round ry found himself against a crap driver & a car we didn't know very well. so bad the other car forgot to put a dial # on his window. hehe we thought. if that happens the tower posts what ever # they want. 9.69 went up. so instead of running our race Ryan thought that with such a high dial the car would beak out. easy win, just push him hard down the track he breaks out we win. NOT. the POS chevelle draggind an anchor ran a 9.77 & ryan broke out. BRAIN CRAMP. the rust continued saturday & drinkng started earlier than planned. done after 3 rounds. thats harder on the liver. lol

Sunday. turn the hour glass over & start over. better air & CUDA running a tenth quicker. let the games begin. CUDA ran even tighter during time trials & a red bulb got us a round 1 win. 2nd round CUDA broke by 1/1000 running a 7.699 on a 7.70 . to bad,but after a buy back & we took out the next 4 cars. semi finals stood us up against a 69 super bee. a good friend who has never beat us. after he laid a 7.65 right on his dial with a .525 bulb saw team 440 heading for the trailer. Done in the sun.

3d place wasn't terrible.

Next week we're heading for North Bay On. is sandwich still up there?

greg73cuda

whoa, thats so freaking awesome. i hope one day to start a little team with my wife and a couple close friends.

:)Well lets start off by saying the folks in North Bay sure can put on a great event. 350+ race cars in street, semi pro & super pro classes, jet car, wheel standing dragster & wheel standing back hoe. lol. pretty cool event.

sorry folks but it wasn't TEAM 440's best effort to date, in fact it was our worst since we started racing. Both Saturday & Sunday's events saw us only going 3 round. You know this is a game of inches and the early season rust reared its ugly head again. Ryan & I were never in sink. I'd dial CUDA & it would run right on the # with a zero:giggedy: but Ry would cut a bad light & end the day by loosing by .0017 OR he'd be nailing the tree & i miss dialed & CUDA would break out by .02. That happened twice:doh:

We did learn a new leason on braking at the finish line, so i thought i should share it to make others better racers.

To avoid breaking out we do brake at the finish line if you've passed the other car or you know the other car will not catch you at the finish. Ryan & i never discuused exactly how much brake he'd use. he'd say "i was hard on the brakes or tapped the brakes. BUT how does that really equate to the real time if you didn't lift & brake?????????

Well lets say this is where experience comes in. Based on the Ryans judgment he tells me what he thinks the car would have run if he didn't lift. That time also goes into our log book to help us evaluate & dial the car for the next round. I used to interpet his "i was on the brakes" & make dial in adjustments randomly. Now i think i have a little more detail to work with.

RACE NEXT WEEK END LUSKVILLE QUEBEC

lessons learned = $:giggedy:
