My wife did what?

Nice Dart! Those wheel covers were on my 72 swinger, as well as my 72 4 door custom. I have a set in the garage still.

are/were they just some oddball option ive never seen or what?
They're literally the most-common '72-'75 (or '76) Dodge 14" wheelcover. They came on everything from four-door Coronets to Chargers and Challengers (I had a '74 Charger with 'em). Personally I think they're one of the ugliest wheelcovers Chrysler ever made, but Stretch was just fine with 'em until I opened my mouth Thursday:

"I have an offer for you. I will give you one set of blank year-correct dog dishes for that car if you paint the wheels body color."
*looks up, straight ahead, then over at me* "Why do you do these things to me?!"
"Because I can. And it would look awesome."
"Yeah it would. Damn it."

😁

Other than the caved-in RH rear door and a tiny bit of quarter rust, it's in amazing shape. Once he has it home and can get photos, jaws will drop 'round here over the interior. I don't think I've ever seen a nicer all-original gut.

well when he gets it home i want a good shot of the caps...maybe they just wernt common in the west?..seriously ive never seen a set

My 73 Challenger had those when my dad bought it. He swapped the wheels for a set of Ford Magnums, used 1/4" spacers on the front wheels for the Magnums to fit, 30 something years ago.

Not gonna lie. As each day goes by I get more anxious to get it home.

I'm so anxious I considered getting my truck stuck on the way out to the back field to get my trailer today.

I have to use my trailer next week and it's parked just behind the shop...but it's gonna leave some nasty ruts on the way out... ;)

We went and picked the Dart up today. Wow does it run and drive nice! I need to adjust the front brakes. It dives to the right when you hit the brakes. The right front is grabbing before the left front. I also need to look at the rear diff. It has some bearing noise. I'm pretty sure its the right rear wheel bearing.

Told ya the interior was clean!

That interior doesn't look like it's almost 50 years old! And did they drive that with soft cotton gloves on...the grain on the steering wheel looks as fresh as the day it left the dealership!

As you say sucks that rear door got so buggered. :(

I have no idea how it survived so well. There are seat covers in the trunk along with a car cover. The seat covers are still on the head rests. I'm sure that has alot to do with it. We originally thought that black phone pad on the dash was covering a crack. Two good things about that. It has no adhesive, it is just sitting there and there is no crack under it.

The guy I bought it from is my wife's boss, the county undersheriff. He said he found it in a barn not far from his house. He bought it from a little old lady who is the original owner.

As for the door. His son took it to prom and was hit by a drunk driver. I would bet driving drunk and hitting the undersheriff's kids car in a small town like this leaves a sinking feeling in the pit of a guys stomach. 😆

that things astoundingly clean, serious shame about the door on a car thats survived so...very very well

how cleans the engine bay?

aside from the door and a pealing top it looks like it doesnt need a thing

That's odd how the wheel cover sits inside the outer ring, all the wheel covers I've had or installed covered the entire rim.

13inch cover on a 14inch wheel? 14inch cover on a 15inch wheel?..i dont know...ive NEVER seen a set of these EVER..could have also been so a body matched set of wheels would have a "color stripe"..which on that car would look SHARP!

ive seen "dogdish" caps that are identical to just the centers of those full caps tho

they almost look like a dodge dog dish on a tbird wheel..but i dig em

nothin a soaking hose down of undilited purple power let to sit till almost dry and a quick wipe n hose down wouldnt bring back to neer showroom

and even still thats a pretty clean bay..about as clean as the alfa i sold before i cleaned it up

the fact its an ac car is extra cool in my book especialy being a 4dr

typical a-body..you ordered PS you GET manual brakes

as much as im no fan of the leaning tower of power..even still owning a vintage 4brl manifold , as well as hating seeing all that smog shit...i can honestly say i wouldnt change anything more than i was forced to..its just too damn clean..aside from that door......and likely ripping out that aftermarket radio/sub...tho id likely put a hiden audio in it
