Anybody have access to Mitchell repair tsb's? I have a problem with my Crossfire and know what it is, but don't know what the tsb says...

47.3/15 Clicking noise from OBD shut-off valve with part number 000 476 63 32

Thanks for any help. It should be listed under 2001ish Mercedes SLK 320 or E320 4matic. :shifty:

Have you tried googling crossfire tsb's or tried http://www.crossfireforum.org/forum ?

Yes, all I could find would refer to a dead link for the Mercedes that the Crossfire basically is.

hmmm... I believe emissions controls are warranted for 10 years on these cars, no? I should try a Chrysler dealer, but they know squat about the Crossfire.I

did find this (and it's my exact problem):

2001 Fuel Emissions Vapor Canister 'thump/clunk' noise

As of 2001, the vapor canister shut off valve is part of the vapor canister and is mounted in the canister housing. On previous versions the canister and shut off valve were two different parts and were mounted near each other.

The new 2001 canister shut off valve may be heard at times when the vapor test is occurring at idle, such as a red light.

The following is a description of the test:

PURGE SYSTEM WITH LEAK TEST FUNCTION. (Very abbreviated explanation)

TASK:
The leak test of the evaporative emission system control system must be able to detect leaks of approximately 1 mm for model year 2000 and approximately 0.5 mm for model year 2001. (0.5 mm = approx. 20 thousandth's of an inch) In other words, find a leak as small as a pinhole. Legislation requires that no fuel vapors leak into the atmosphere.

FUNCTION:
The leak test function chain is performed in three stages provided the test requirements are met.
1. Test for major leaks.
2. Test for minor leaks. (=> 1.0mm)
3. Test for micro leaks. (<= 0.5mm)

The clunks you may be hearing are the tests being performed at idle after the car has warmed up and has met numerous requirements. Usually after 16 minutes of driving, but may vary, when you come to a stop, the ME-ECU decides if the tests should begin. The fuel tank must be between ¼ and ¾ tank. Then the vapor canister shut off valve snaps closed and the purge valve is opened to engine vacuum and approx. -6 mbar is pulled down in the vapor system. The purge valve is shut off and the ME-ECU monitors how long it took to drop to -6 mbar. If it took too long, you will get a check engine light on and a fault code set for a major evaporative system leak. (Check to see if your gas cap is properly closed!) If it passes, the test moves on to the minor leak test and the canister valve is shut down again. This time the system is monitored for 30 seconds and the vacuum must stay within a certain specification for this time or you will get a fault code for a minor leak. If it passes this stage, then the micro leak test is performed.

What 2001 owners are hearing are the tests being performed and the 'thumping/clunking' is the canister valve shutting down and releasing. The test may have to repeat itself if the test is interrupted. For example, you are at a stoplight and the test starts, but the light turns green and you start to drive off. You may hear up to three or more 'thumps/clunks' at idle from the rear of the car.

SOLUTION: (as of 08 Aug 2001)
Refer to Bulletin P-B-47.30/15 (Chassis: All; Group: 47)
Subject: Model Year 2001 Vehicles with Engines 111 / 112 / 113 / 137 (except S210)
Clicking Noise from OBD Shut-Off Valve with Part No. 000 476 63 32
If you encounter instances of clicking noise from the ODB - shut off valve, please install a modified OBD shut off valve (part number 000 476 63 32), which has been phased into production as of 2/01. The modified valve (same part number as previous versions) can be identified by the date code 290101 (29th day of January 2001) or later stamped on the side of the valve body. Return invalid stock to facing PDC by August 24, 2001. PDC stock has been cleared of old version part.

I would post a question with symptoms on the Crossfire web board and see if they can help you. The evap canister could be the problem too as they have been a problem on the 08> Avengers.
