How to Build a Daytona Nose in 4837 Easy Steps

O.D.in' on XL's meds while
Well here's the start. Get the fenders and hood aligned and use them as a template for the back edge of the nose. set the gap to go.
I'm using 1/2" square tubing for the frame. Took 6 pieces all cut at different angles to make up this back piece. More pics and explains as work progresses.

Looks like a challenge easily overcome by you....
Looking good!

:dave: Gather 'round, this is going to be interesting.:2thumbs:

1/4 inch squre tube is my steel of choice when fabbing stuff like that...hopefully you still have that trasshed nose to help work from ..i realise there wasnt much of it but id bet theres some usefullness in it...you going to make a glass nose or steel?

Yeah the "old Nose" is still here. Not good for anything though.....all the curves are wrong.....they just glassed it to the fenders...........no lights.....etc.......

New nose will be STEEL hense the reason for the 1/2" tubing little more rigid for the support and mountings that have to be fabbed.I still expect the total weight of the nose to be under 75lbs.

i just ment that the old nose is nice to have as a referance point of sorts...not as something to exactly copy lol

yeah it could help for ways NOT to do this one. :bwuhaha: :bwuhaha:

As to an original-----I picked up one years ago that a guy I know has (still does its NOS still sitting in the crate) with no brackets or headlight buckets it weighed about 50lbs.

OK todays work ---- after a bout with the mower and getting the tranny adapter pics for Greggles........ Got one side fabbed. Kerf cuts to bend the metal (my shop teacher would be proud I remembered Kerf cuts) then weld the slots shut. Need the 70 Valance to finish the bottom (anybody got one??)(see Add in sale area) But heres the start for this week.

Got a little more done but forgot the camera. (SORRY) I'll get the pics tomorrow...... Got the latch tray cleaned and mounted (thanks DCF) working on maybe using the 68 valance I have and making the side panels for it. Hey why not the fiberglass nose and chit I pulled off basically have it built in. Oh and I put this up for sale http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjodaddy1QQhtZ-1QQfrppZ50QQfsopZ1QQfsooZ1QQrdZ0

Want to see where it goes just watch along.
Still need a trunk lid and some other stuff. Wonder if theres a canadian person who might come down this way with a lid??? And pick up some seats and a buddy seat??

Anybody for a full size measurement of the base of the Wing????

Just an FYI A buddy bought a fiberglass nose for his superbird clone. If nothing esle, it may be an interesting for a template.

Hey Kam!! I'd love to have a template of the SIDE of it just to try to get the curvature close. Also did he get a Wing?? I need a template of the base and of the "wing" cross section??

GUYS THERE A GUY IN ILLINOIS MAKING THOSE NOSES AND THE WINGS AND ALSO SHAKER HOODS YEP HE KINDA GOT IN TROUBLE CAUSE WHILE IN ST LOUIS THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE ORIGINALS YEP HES THAT GOOD ILL LEAVE A NUMBER IN NEXT COUPLE DAYS HES AN OLDER GUY BUT DANG GOOD

There's lots of companies making both or one or the other. Not interested in BUYING one. Buying being the key word. This thread is about fabrication.....

hey jodaddy1 u do know that u do not needa 70 charger valence, the daytonas had their seperate valence, also u need to modify the 70 fenders so the daytona valence can fit, look for thalliums post on www.dodgecharger.com it will be very useful-MATT for the wing tho u have 2 buy either a glass 1 or a metal repop-MATT

warlockhauler,chargerpunk,69.5 thanks for all the great ideas :) But remember I'm not trying to build a CLONE I'm trying to rebuild a f'd up attempt at one:doh: and do it so it RESEMBLES the real thing, using as close to what they did BUT use STEEL and make headlight buckets. If I had unlimiteds dollars to throw at this I would get the guy building Steel repops and have him do it. :toot: But I'm a fabricator at heart and I think I can build this nose including the headlight actuator for under $250.00. Unlike the 6-10k these guys are getting for repops.
And should be able to build a wing for less than $100.00. Just trying to approximate what they did so it will appear the same but not as exagerated as they did it..:gaga: ;)
